Our leadership class responded to the outbreak of the coronavirus by shutting down the economy on a nationwide scale. While this will mitigate the loss of life the virus might otherwise have caused, it’s clear we’re also confronting a challenge no medical innovation can cure. We face an unprecedented situation — not a global pandemic, we’ve seen those before, but a modern capitalist economy that turned itself off for potentially more than 60 days, on purpose. Uncertainty crushes hope. So the question on the minds of our leaders should be: how do we give citizens more confidence that we can, and will, turn the economy back on?

This is what happens when you enable a lying media to run the show and set the stage for the ghouls who are masked as experts. Those two doctors started out okay, but they got a taste of the limelight and now they are going to ruin this nation, all based on could be's, maybe's and possibly. They sure seem disappointed that about 95% of the country isn't affected, and Trump needs to deal harshly with the jackboot governors of both parties who are stomping on our rights at the moment. Trump understands the economy can be restarted. But what is he going to do about the media fueled suicides that are going on right now?

This "strategy" is fabulous!
Sequester the healthiest, most productive people - - in order to protect the least healthy and least productive - - who are already sequestered.
Only the gummint could think of that.

Something stinks. Everywhere we look, except to Fauci, we see stories about the malaria drug being a game changer. What is going on. Why isn't every doctor in the country giving this drug to everyone testing positive for COVID-19?????

Wrong paradigm. This is not just a US economic issue. Believe it or not (listen to the MEDIA or not) the US economy for the hit it's taken is still the STRONGEST most vibrant, most adaptable on the planet. Once the bug is dead the Trump administration will have released the "sleeping tiger" .
Everybody I know can't wait for the chance to get back to work and make lemonade.

The article says we need certainty, then notes two releases of roadmaps to return to work. Both roadmaps envision many more months of shutdown, which would provide us with nothing but more downturn, disaster, and ruin, not exactly the vision of certainty that Americans would seem to need. I don't think the author of this article has read those roadmaps, or he would not have cited them.

Let's all meet back here in two weeks and compare notes. There is a lot of BS floating around, even on this site. While we are at it, define "productive" #2.

Can't assume there will be work when the bans are lifted. Many small businesses (and some lager ones) may not stay afloat for possibly months without revenue. Macy's and JC Pennys are already on the ropes and just laid off thousands.

Nah. Not going to happen. Things will pop back faster than most will think as soon as these 'stay home' orders are lifted and restaurants and businesses reopened.

After you strangle the goose it is hard to get the goose to lay eggs. The damage already done to the economy will be far reaching and long lasting. Notice all the freedoms we've lost. Just wait 'til the next panic. The political dictators seize the opportunity to do even more damage.

FTA: Even a populous city like Los Angeles is far less hard hit than New York City and other more condensed cities, bulging at their ribs with people. In other communities, the worst outbreaks are often found in nursing homes and elder care facilities.
And yet the entire nation is shutting down when we should be following Sweden's example (only on this one issue).

The CDC has known since 2005 that chlorohydroquinine was effective against Corona viruses... they tested with SARS. They determined it was effective both prophylactically as well as therapeutically. why has this not been rolled out nationally - at least to hotspots to stop the spread. It would stop the spread quickly.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16115318
Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.

chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells. These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage. In addition to the well-known functions of chloroquine such as elevations of endosomal pH, the drug appears to interfere with terminal glycosylation of the cellular receptor, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2.

This is an opportunity to crush socialism in the US - if people have the courage to act.
