The coronavirus death toll in Spain has climbed to 3,434, surpassing China in overall number of deaths.
Spain recorded 738 deaths in the past 24 hours, its deadliest toll in a single day. It is now the second country in the world with the highest number of deaths from Covid-19, behind Italy.
China says it recorded 3,287 deaths, while Italy's death toll stands at more than 6,800. (Snip) The outbreak has hit Spain hard, putting its fragile healthcare system under immense strain, especially in the central region around Madrid, with one third of the positive cases and roughly half of the casualties.

Italy has a fragile healthcare system that is collapsing.
Spain has a fragile healthcare system that is collapsing.
Nationalized healthcare does not seem to be faring very well in a crisis.

Does anyone really believe ANY information / data on this epidemic that is being provided by the Chinese Communist Party???
I suspect that there real number of deaths in China is on the order of 10x-20x of their "official" reports, but is being suppressed by one of the most autocratic regimes in history.

My theory on why Italy and Spain are so hard hit is because their citizens back in the 60s and 70s foolishly subscribed to the global overpopulation hoax and limited themselves to one child, if they reproduced at all. Fast forward to today and these countries have a largely elderly population, the same demographic that is most susceptible to the worst this virus has to offer. Add to it the gross limitations of their socialized health systems, largely because they lack the younger working, tax paying population needed to support such systems, and the end result is that the elderly in these countries have been condemned to death. Sad, but what's worse is that idiots in this country thought they were the models we should conform to.

I don't trust the Chinese numbers. Truly epic numbers from China would cause a government overthrow, hence the secrecy and proclaimed low numbers.

Did you see the headline?
"Flu WARNING: EU Alert as 40,000 die each year from epidemic complications"
The European Union has warned the UK and other member states to “vaccinate themselves and their children” against the flu as the continent battles an influenza epidemic.
That headline was at Express.com published Wed, Feb 21, 2018.

The Independent is a sensationalist UK tabloid, always a questionable source.
This is exponential growth. Most people's minds work in a linear world. Put in twice as much, get twice as much out. Put in four times as much, get four times as much out. Exponential growth surprises people.
Old exponential growth story. A floating weed doubles it's numbers every week in a pond. If the pond is full on a particular day. How many weeks (doubling periods) before was it only 1/32nd full of weeds? (About 3% full)
Answer: five weeks; five doubling periods.
Exponential growth does not, cannot continue unchecked in the real world.
The first part of an epidemic looks like exponential growth, then levels out, rolls over and drops off. More isolation makes this 'roll over' happen sooner, and at a lower peak.

If the Chinese death toll is truly as low as they claim, given their large, densely populated cities, then they must have had prior knowledge of what was about to hit them and developed counter measures, developed in the same labs from whence the virus sprung. I'm still leaning towards this "outbreak" being a deliberate attack on the west, just as sure as if they were flinging diseased bodies by catapult over the castle walls.

#11, they aren't that smart, really. Don't assume that our enemies are ten feet tall, they aren't . This is just lies and coverups, combined with totalitarian lockdown on a scale, and to a degree that other countries cannot imagine.

Later, it will be interesting to know why Spain has had so many deaths. The article does imply that the elderly are left at home to die, which means their healthcare system is low.
