Approximately 20,000 to 40,000 New Yorkers are currently arriving in Florida daily as they flee from the epicenter of the most explosive coronavirus outbreak. However, if the elderly are the most vulnerable; and if isolating the most vulnerable population is the best course of action; and with the largest population of older residents living in Florida; then why are New Yorkers allowed to travel to Florida?
According to data released by Governor DeSantis: Monday saw 190 direct flights from the New York City area into various Florida airports. If 150-200 people average per flight, that’s 28,500 to 38,000 New York metropolitan area residents arriving in Florida today.

I'd extend that quarantine through election day at least.

Those people are like locusts. I sympathize with their situation to a point, but I read an article the other day about Manhattanites fleeing to the Hamptons and Marthas Vineyard who were cleaning out the grocery stores and demanding immediate service from an overburdened health care system, to name but a few things. I feel for the people of Florida who have to put up with these transplants.

They're probably coming to Texas, too. I sure hope they're bringing toilet paper with them!

This is Deblasio's/Cuomo's fault. If a legal case could be made for criminal stupidity, then DeBlasio would be serving a life sentence. Cuomo isn't stupid, but he is conniving.

And this is the dilemma the president has to face if standards are to be relaxed in some states and not in others.

Having grown up in Florida and having many family still there I can confirm a swarm of locusts would be more welcome than the wealthy pampered plague spreaders from New York City.
We need to stop planes from these hot spot cities entirely and the city borders need to be barricaded to keep these thoughtless people from bringing their disease to others.
You wanted to live there now grow up and deal with it!!

Heheh. Been down here since last September so it doesn't apply to me. Looks increasingly unlikely I will be returning to New York for the summer. If I did, does that mean I would have to self-quarantine next fall when I fly down to Florida again? Wonder if I would have to self-quarantine in New York if I flew up. Looks like I will be staying here for a while.

Do you think that the Chinese Communist Government would allow huge numbers of people from a hard hit city like New York to simply decamp to another area of the country that has not been impacted by the virus, when there is no telling how many of those people are covert carriers of the virus? Give us a break!

I am sick of the sound of Cuomo's voice. Why must the entire nation listen to him drone on and on? So obnoxious, not a good ambassador for New Yorkers.

I said last week, if you want to contain this, stop travel out of NY.
NY is THE epicenter of this, now spreading it wider.

#13: I haven't heard Cuomo's voice yet, and for two simple reasons: I don't watch the TeeVee newscasts he's on, and I certainly don't go looking for videos of him. Rather than complain about what's on the news, here's a thought, STOP watching it!

Same here in Idaho. We were cootie-free until the freaks from California decided to come to their mini mansions in Sun Valley and shabang.. we have 30 cases in Blaine County. The other few cases spread around the state have all been traced to transplants coming in. Petition going around to shut the border and keep them out. They need to be forced to stay in their liberal sheetholes.

I can certainly understand how Floridians feel about liberals from Leftist strongholds invading their State. But signing executive orders trying to force people into quarantine or forbidding them from staying with friends and family is a waste of time unless they plan on arresting everyone coming off the planes. It isn't enforceable.

#20, we are nowhere near it with this one, and I really do NOT like the idea of restrictions on
travel, but if this was a 50% fatal disease how long would it take for there to be checkpoints at state borders letting in food and fuel trucks but no buses or private cars? And then how long before the country folks decided to keep the city folk from bringing it out to them, and put up checkpoints at the county lines?
Isolation is the only solution, and if the death rate were A WHOLE LOT higher, more stringent means of isolation would be used.

NYC earns any negative reputation it has thanks to many NYC residents. So many dopey jerks, BUT we have to remember that the right man for these times, the man who by himself reforms the Republican party daily and who exposes the evil of the media and the rat party, was born and formed in NYC, President Donald J Trump. At least they got one thing right.

Since many/most of these New Yawkers will be from the "Do you know who I am?" class, I doubt that they will take any self-quarantine orders seriously at all.

This could become a real problem if they go out shopping to stock up their new homes. If people are fleeing because they are sure they don't have the virus and want to be safer that's one thing but if they are fleeing to another environment without knowing, that's quite another. I suspect this is the same situation as those migrating to second homes on the Jersey Shore and taking the bug with them. Since I rarely see senior citizens leaving their homes in Florida except to slow down traffic on busy days it probably won't spread as fast as in other areas.

Current NY state number are about 22,000 cases, on CDC site. Second place is NJ with just under 3,000, the Washington state 2200, and California at just under 2000. But Florida has jumped way up to over 1100.
Folks from NY heading to Fla? Seems likely.
Regardless the second place state to NY has barely over 10% the number of cases.
When to they stop letting people leave NY state to spread it elsewhere?

Where I live everybody knows the general population in one way or another. Yesterday, there were new homeless and transients I had never seen before. If they infect the homeless population, it will be bad.
We don't need more drug dealers either.
