The COVID-19 outbreak is giving new meaning to those “sustainable” shopping bags that politicians and environmentalists have been so eager to impose on the public. These reusable tote bags can sustain the COVID-19 and flu viruses — and spread the viruses throughout the store. Researchers have been warning for years about the risks of these bags spreading deadly viral and bacterial diseases, but public officials have ignored their concerns, determined to eliminate single-use bags and other plastic products despite their obvious advantages in reducing the spread of pathogens. In New York state, a new law took effect this month banning single-use plastic bags in most retail businesses,

Also, using your OWN brought from home shopping bags are the commonplace all over the UK (especially England) and Italy. Think about it. The virus is just getting going in the UK and is just terrible in Italy.

And several years ago, the liberal Los Angeles Times had to admit that most of the reusable tote bags are made in China...

My bags are clean. I replace them frequently. But what about all the other customers bringing their dirty bags into the store and putting them up on the same check out counter I have to use. Article mentions people bringing bags into stores that have sat on subway floors, etc.

Listening to the media and crap like this will spread the likelihood of your complete insanity and proof of total brainwashing. Just live your life. If it's your time to go God will take you. Relax. Chill. Be happy. Ignore the mass panic and hysteria. Faith is the antidote for fear.

I use my bags if I go to Aldi because you have to carry your own. I wash them regularly in the washing machine to be sure there are not food particles or blood.

At the market this morning (yes, several shelves were pretty picked clean), the young man packing my purchases, touching every item, at one point that I saw, wiped his sniffly nose with the back or edge of his hand. So, I used all the precautions I usually use while shopping, but I had never thought about the people touching the food i'd just purchased, all the things he or she had touched --they don't wash their hands in between customers!
Then I went to the gas station. I usually wear gloves, then always use sanitizer when done. I wash my hands when I get home. AND then I unpack the food... never thinking about what I might have carried home in and on the bags, and items in the bags, themselves!
The check-out people need protection, but so do customers. I plan to call the grocery store and alert them to what happened.

I was at our local Kroger yesterday to get something for dinner. There were people dragging two carts full of stuff and a lot of shelves emptied. Pure panic from the low-infos. Get a grip, people. #5 has the right idea.

Yes #6, me too. I launder mine too especially because any contact point on them in public means they are dirty.

I will be going out to Wally's tonight after supper to minimize my contact with others, wearing gloves, wiping my cart down with Clorox wipes and using the self checkout, but I didn't even think about my reusable bags. I'll spend the afternoon spraying them down with Lysol. However, I've never put raw meat in them without plastic bags surrounding the meat, so there might be that protection.
Just goes to show you that you can take all the precautions in the world and there will always be one thing overlooked.

This is obvious, and people have complained about it for years. But, leftist MMGW loons won't hear of any sensible reasons to use plastic bags.

See- those bags carry germs. I don't use them for groceries. Why would I want to put the plastics man out of business? And what would I put used kitty litter in? One of my friends has always wiped every can and bottle down soon as they got home from grocery shopping. My concern is people handling produce.
