The potential impact of the coronavirus might still be unknown, but the media hype is already plain as day. Particularly when you compare how they are covering this pandemic with the last one, which happened to occur when Barack Obama was in the White House.
To get a sense of the differences in how the press treated these two outbreaks of brand new viruses, let’s look at how the New York Times and CNN – the bellwethers of mainstream journalism in print and on TV – covered each at similar points in the outbreak.

The media ignored swine flu for the same reason Chief Justice Roberts rewrote Obama care from the bench - neither wanted to be the first to rain on the “Magic Negro’s” parade....

This is exactly what I've been saying for days now, that the hysteria over covid-19 is being fanned by the media. It's a disease we need to take precautions with but closing schools and sporting events and hoarding supplies?? No one seemed to care when 12k died while Obama was in office from swine flu.

I knew the swine flu was bad, but the stats in this article really blew me away, and honestly, just made me angry. I can't believe we are shutting down our economy to deal with this virus. It's complete BS. And, yes, I know, the real reason we're shutting everything down is to drive Trump out of office.

Except the swine flu had a fatality rate of 0.01-0.08% versus 2-4% for the coronavirus. Stop it. This is not political. Just because the media have been hysterical idiots about many things it does not mean that this disease is a hoax.
The only political issue is when Trump will fire the entire CDC for failing to make sure enough people were tested last month when it would have made a difference.

The sooner the msm can be wiped out of existence, the better. Having the world come to a complete halt, all because of the msm's hype and self-created chaos, is outright evil. Poeples livelihoods that are being affected right now is appalling - all because Billary, Obie, the msm, and the left in general still cannot get over the results of the 2016 Presidential election.

Respectfully, of course this disease isn't a hoax. The Media Output and the Democratic Party people getting their hair on fire to punish the President is a hoax.. I currently have an URI, which the doctor assured me is NOT the COVID-19 strain. The Rx for it costs $65 anyway.

I am thoroughly convinced that this whole panic is an intentional fake crisis pushed by the "news" industry. They are willingly, INTENTIONALLY attempting to push us into a recession because they know that sleepy joe has zero chance of ousting Trump this fall with a good economy.
They care nothing for the hardships a recession will cause for most people, their abject hatred for Trump is so intense. And of course the elites who are driving all of this totally bogus panic will not suffer any from an economic downturn like us peasants. In fact their prospects will improve if Trump loses re-election.
A pox upon them!!!!! I am SICK of all this!!!!

No one is calling this disease a hoax. It has been taken seriously from the beginning and things have been done to slow it's spread. That said, people will get sick and some will die. That is reality. To a large extent we are already quarantining people who may have been exposed. Testing doesn't extend that, just sorts out those that are actually infected. The average person on the street showing NO symptoms will not be tested any more than you would send them in for an X-ray to see if they had pneumonia. People with NO symptoms can show a false negative, having the disease but the test does NOT detect it. Yet, that person may have been exposed. Testing reduces the SUSPECTED population to the CONFIRMED population. It may not reduce quarantine time much because by the time the CDC clears you it can be 3 or 4 days later. If you were not showing symptoms a second test may be required.
The primary things to do are:
Quarantine those likely to have been exposed.
Avoid crowds.
Avoid visiting susceptible populations, like the elderly, to avoid infections.
Wash hands and disinfect body contact areas and commonly accessed surfaces.
Test,, monitor, and treat suspected and symptomatic people, who mostly are already quarantined.
Hype, fear, and panic are NOT helpful. Most infected people will suffer through flu symptoms and be fine. The biggest issue is spreading the virus. Next, once symptoms show up to go to the doctor and get tested, if appropriate, and be monitored for symptoms getting severe.
None of this process is or can be perfect. The biggest gaps will be individuals who don't take it seriously and violate quarantine, like by going to a business conference. Or by a family living with a quarantined person still traveling around not realizing that THEY are now infected as well. One ignorant person can infect thousands through a chain of contact and there is little that can be done to stop it.

Even Fox is promoting the hype of this virus. Bottom line, it should be treated like the flu has been treated for the past few decades. Stay home, wash your hands after touching everything from gas pumps to grocery carts and don't visit elderly relatives. Many people died in China because the government denied the existence of the disease. We announced it right on time. Our government is doing something right for once except for one step - shutting down the lying, propaganda arm of the democrat party, the MSM.

The biggest lesson from this whole thing is still not getting through: we have to get the supply chain for our critical goods OUT of China! Now they are threatening to stop exporting pharmaceuticals. The disease is real, yes, but somebody is not letting a good crisis go to waste. I just hope we wake up and see the ramifications of a "just in time" supply chain on drugs that is dependent upon China.

# 7 The wuhan flu is not a hoax , the " we're all gonna die" response is. Shutting down Broadway, the NFL, NCAA, pro basketball etc is insanity. People are being brainwashed with propaganda. Mueller didnt work neither did "impeachment". All of this is aimed at taking down Trump. The MSM and the dems have no ethics , no moral compass when it comes to their attainment of power. We owe it to ourselves to ask what measures the democrats wouldn't take. Seth Rich, Phillip Haney Benghazi, Spygate, cash to Iran, fast and furious .......
Is it much of a stretch to think that they unleashed this thing on purpose with their well established Chinese supporters? It's the perfect plague. Just enough to leverage politically with a manageable death toll. The timing is not perfect because you don't want something that will fizzle in the summer but you don't get a sufficient virus season before November.
The total lack of any semblance of a uniting affect on the country in this "crisis" is profound. They shut their yaps about Bush stealing the election after 911 did they not? There's no pulling together at all in these circumstances? I smell a rat.

#7, the fatality rate for corona is 1% and it’s mostly very elderly people with pre-existing conditions. Calm down. No one said it was a hoax and it IS political. The disease isn’t a hoax but the media spin on it certainly is. Please quit spreading demonrat propaganda on this site.

I think we now have about 10,000 gigabytes of examples of media dishonesty and abuse of the First Amendment. Honestly, does anyone take the MSM (main stream morons) seriously any more? Even democrats acknowledge that reporting is biased and unfair, even though they tolerate it in the hopes of hurting President Trump and Conservatives.
Once truthful and factual history is again published, the media will be savaged by historians. People who think they are making history with their fake media just don't realize what kind of history they are making!

I'm suspicious of anything that comes out of China...Period. Though, what bothers me more than the corona virus is that China controls 96% of our pharmaceuticals and vital meds. What! Who were the rocket scientists in this country who had no vision and allowed this to happen? This is far worse than an exaggerated cold or flu epidemic. Basically, the Chinese control the health of this country. The medicare for all politicians better change their tune to funeral assistance for all.
Then there's the lab in Wuhan that grows virus. Is anyone checking it out? Oh yes, China won't let anyone in the country, such as the WHO, or the CDC to check anything. That's what you get with communism! Let's face it, we are being played and duped by the Chicoms. Of course the demented Biden thinks they're terrific.
Then there are the medical experts here shooting their mouths off about how we failed at providing tests and then going on Hannity and other talk shows spewing ridiculous predictions of how many will succumb to the virus. Saying this should be a crime for many reasons.
President Trump is trying to stem the tide of a serious situation and these clowns are causing panic with the people and the stock market to crash. They, along with Schumer should be censored or at least coached.
With all that said, I thank God we have President Trump at the helm and I predict by July 4th he will have righted this ship back to where it was prior to the corona virus. In the meantime, tune out the jerks in the media and the Democrats running for office in 2020. Support our great President. Nobody else is better qualified to handle this crisis than him.

#7, we don't yet know what the real mortality rate is from this virus. For one thing, for statistical purposes, we don't have an accurate count yet of the "denominator" (i.e., the number of actual cases of corona virus, including perhaps thousands of MILD cases that have not been reported from China). Were we to include these cases, the mortality rate would be considerably less than what is being quoted by the mathematically challenged news media. Also, the assertion that corona's mortality rate is much higher than the flu is an oranges to apples comparison, because a large number of people have been vaccinated for the flu, which translates to a lower death rate. IF there were currently a vaccine for corona, it is highly likely that its true mortality rate would be similar to that of influenza.

If I didn't already detest and despise the media I would after this morning. I went to the supermarket to do my weekly shopping and the parking lot was full with cars circling the lot waiting for an open slot. The checkout lines were backed up halfway down the aisles and the shelves were empty even of those items that people rarely need. I've never seen anything like it; even when heavy snows or blizzards are predicted have people gone this nuts!!
In addition to being vile and reprehensible the media is also totally irresponsible.
Don't be surprised when some poor soul is assaulted if he or she has the last roll of TP on the store's shelf. It's bound to happen.

I read an interesting comment over at the Treehouse last night that I found insightful. I'm bumping off of it.
Yes, the hysteria being whipped up the media is grossly irresponsible, however the response from President Trump and his administration has been absolutely appropriate. I agree that the suspension of large gatherings, closing schools and work places adjusting to work-from-home are, while extremely disruptive, the appropriate responses to protect the health of our most vulnerable citizens. Trump is acting to slow the spread of infection, an important reprieve that gives our medical system time to gear-up to handle the bloom of cases that are sure to occur in any pandemic.
You can gauge the appropriateness of Trump's actions by the level of hysteria coming from the Deep State denizens. Based upon the economic gloom-and-doom, we are headed into the second coming of the Great Depression - the wet dream of the commies. Don't bet on it. In the President's address to the nation he specifically described how the success of his economic measures has given us the ability to weather a few hits without crashing the entire system. He has put into place emergency measures that actually help people today, such as suspending payroll tax payments so small businesses can have more liquidity during the crisis, rather than sending these important dollars to D.C. Every one of Trump's measures are designed to protect the health of our citizens while assisting the various parts of our economic engine to keep moving.
This disruption to our societal and cultural norms has many potentially beneficial aspects, all afforded by our technological revolution. For decades our businesses and schools have been developing computer platforms for the dissemination of information that until now have been used for mostly in-house capacities. Next week, as the kids stay home from school they will be instructed over the inter-net and their parents will be working-from-home...all on their personal computers, laptops or tablets. Parents will see the curriculum being taught in the schools, perhaps many eyes will be opened to the level of propaganda verses real knowledge to which their children are being exposed. Children will see what it is that their Mom and Dad do all day, how hard they work to provide for them. Imagine the conversations as families have the time together to really get to know each other, time to play together and perhaps time to pray together.
The commies are gleefully celebrating the cancellation of a few Trump rallies, entirely forgetting they will start up again as soon as the most contagious time of the pandemic has past. When they start up again, they will be even bigger than ever. The first one after the suspension will be a barn burner.
Every time the commies try to attack MAGA:KAG the Trump boomerang comes circling back towards their heads. For the last fifty years they have been dedicated to the destruction of the American family. Their Covid19 hysteria may just facilitate the restoration of the American family, the bedrock of our liberty and a vital necessity to the continuation of our Constitutional Republic.
"Behold, I make all things new." God isn't done with us yet.

#30, I don’t know where you live but I’d bet it’s a leftist area. I live in SC and there’s no panic or lines here. My daughter lives in the DC suburbs and went to Costco yesterday. She is due to give birth next week and went to get some last minute necessities. She sent us photos of lines of people with carts stretching around the building on both sides 30 minutes before the store even opened. When she checked out, the lines for the cashiers were all the way back to the freezer section. And finally, there were 3 police cars stationed at the entrance - I’m sure they were there for just the scenario you mention - people fighting over toilet paper, etc.
This is all absolutely insane, inexcusable and downright evil.

Here in western Colorado, went to the Walmart before the President's press conference. On the way over, many owners had put up their Trump/Pence 2020 and MAGA banners again following some rain showers earlier. Just watched the press conference. Great job, Mr. President and team. And the stock market liked what it heard.
