Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg came away the big winner Tuesday night — in the American Samoa caucuses. Bloomberg was awarded five of the six delegates from American Samoa, with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, claiming just one. It amounted to his first victory from the Super Tuesday contests, after dropping $500 million on ads. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders were faring much better in the early voting, raising questions about the future of Bloomberg's campaign.

Considering that American Samoa has 56000 residents, and that they are split about 60% Republican to 40% Democrat, and that only about 3/4 of the population is probably of voting age, and also that he won only 7/8ths of the delegates, this probably represents the votes of about 15000 people. With that kind of spending ratio, it should only take about 4000 trillion dollars to win the presidency. Well done Mini Mike!

So where would Bloomy file this under, "money well spent," or, "a fool and his money?" I know my answer, but I hope he believes the former.

He'll go out for dinner tonite at a New York Steakhouse and order a rib eye that weighs more than he does. He'll tell his bought and paid for table mates that he sure threw a scare into Trump and they'll all laugh. Then he will studiously not mention that the FARMERS got the best of him.

The Federal Reserve slashed interest rates by half a percentage point on Tuesday, a bold attempt to give the US economy a jolt in the face of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak. It was the first unscheduled, emergency rate cut since 2008, and it also marks the biggest one-time cut since then. The new benchmark interest rate is 1% to 1.25%. Although the fundamentals of the US economy remain strong, "the coronavirus poses evolving risks to economic activity," the central bank said in a statement. Just last week, several Fed officials said it was too early to cut rates in the face of the global virus outbreak.

Though predictable, one of the most frustrating things about how Democrats have behaved since 2016 is their penchant for undermining election results simply because they don’t like the outcome. They of course cranked up the “illegitimate” rhetoric within moments of Donald Trump’s November 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton. They’ve kept it up ever since by way of perpetuating the myth of Trump/Russia collusion even after it was determined that there wasn’t any.

So I have decided to suspend the campaign, effective immediately,” Patrick said in a statement Wednesday. FBI Director Christopher Wray said Wednesday that the FBI agents involved in the surveillance of Carter Page who are still at the bureau have been referred to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility for possible disciplinary action. During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Wray noted that most of the FBI officials who oversaw Crossfire Hurricane, which involved surveillance of Page, have left the bureau and are no longer subject to disciplinary review. He said the FBI personnel who worked on that probe and who still have jobs at the FBI are mostly line-level agents.

The nationwide poll, which was released Friday, shows Bloomberg up from 5 percent to 11 percent support for the nomination nationally. The former New York City mayor is now in a dead heat for third place with top-tier candidate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who also received 11 percent support. Biden, meanwhile, continues to lead the Democratic field with 28 percent followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) at 16 percent.

As the U.S. presidential race began roaring to life in 2016, authorities in the former Soviet republic of Latvia flagged a series of “ suspicious” financial transactions to Hunter Biden and other colleagues at a Ukrainian natural gas company and sought Kiev’s help investigating, according to documents and interviews. The Feb. 18, 2016 alert to Ukraine came from the Latvian prosecutorial agency responsible for investigating money laundering, and it specifically questioned whether Vice President Joe Biden’s younger son and three other officials at Burisma Holdings were the potential beneficiaries of suspect funds.

What Super Tuesday tells us is that a lot of Democrats would rather risk losing to President Trump with Joe Biden than allow a socialist like Bernie Sanders to hijack their party. That’s good for America, but it’s also a treacherous Hail Mary pass for the party. He went on to give a good speech about healing the nation, and dutifully kept to the script on his teleprompter.
