Cats and dogs seem perfectly happy to be fed, watered and cuddled by doting owners.
But whatever you do, don't call them pets, says the head of an animal rights organisation.
Ingrid Newkirk, the president of PETA, said this is derogatory and suggests they are merely a 'commodity' or 'decoration'.
The group – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – has long called for owners to be renamed 'human carers' or guardians.
(Snip) Miss Newkirk said: 'Animals are not pets – they are not your cheap burglar alarm, or something which allows you to go out for a walk. They are not ours as decorations or toys, they are living beings.
How about if I just call my female dog a b*tch...because I don't want it to feel bad.

My pet is cat. My neighbor's pet is a dog. As long as they are fed and cared for they don't care what they're called.
Honestly I think people are getting nuttier and nuttier.

PETA is NOT an animal rights organization. It is an anti-human organization.

My kitties are not politically correct. They speak and understand English quite well (for cats), and they are not offended by being referred to as pets. They actually think it's quite endearing.

#3 I am sure this is not your first clue of people becoming nuttier each day. Wait til tomorrow and something nuttier will come up. I really think that our collective tractors are being cranked. Chains pulled, We've have many PETS over the years and we petted them a lot. Some of the cats jerk would not allowed too much of it though.

I’ll quit calling them pets when the four of them can make their own dinner, launder their own beds, help with the housework and help pay the bills.

All Lefty organizations have one goal in common; to disorder our relationships among people and within nature. They insist that women and men are the same, and the sexes are interchangeable. Employees must be empowered while bosses are hobbled. Workers' salaries are confiscated to support the crazy and lazy.
There is no Divine Spark. Since we all come from the same evolutionary muck, animals must have equal standing with humans. When you are in charge of the continued existence of the world only the truly enlightened can make those determinations. Its imperative to make sure all life (animal, vegetable and mineral) have equal rights. Human beings really have to get over their ego trip and learn their place in the socialist paradise.
If you listen close, you can hear God laughing.

I am on my third greyhound off the track. For 30 years I have had a greyhound in the house. They have been down all the major rivers and lakes in Maine on a canoe. My latest has traveled over 20,000 miles across Canada and the US visiting National Parks and other destinations. Years ago at the Grand Canyon she was an "ice breaker" with foreign tourists who wanted to know more about her. They have been part of the family and if I want to call them pets instead of son or daughter I will. They don't know the difference and as long as I feed them, they love being in my presence and going on adventures. Politically correct verbiage will kill us..

PETA is a monster of an organization . The last thing they care about is the welfare of cats and dogs. In a study done in Virginia, a state that requires posting of all animal shelter statistics, PETA’s shelter’s euthanasia rates range from a high of 97.3% in 2006 to 72.7% in 2018. They believe it is better a dog or cat be dead than “owned” by a human. They have stated it is better that all outdoor cats be killed than allowed to live when they might catch a future illness or be hit by a car. The majority of pets surrendered at PETA shelters are put down with in 24 hours, not adopted out to new homes. If PETA has their way, pet ownership would end completely. Argh!
Sorry for the rant. PETA’s hypocrisy is well-known in dog-showing circles. They haven’t a moral leg to stand on when it comes to the welfare of animals.

If that loon really wants to do something..have her go to China where the govt. is now telling people they have 5 days to kill their pets or they will do it for them..but then again..maybe she would be on board with that.

Derogatory, Ingrid? No. You telling me that I am derogating a cat to call it a pet is totally patronizing, though. Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine to have others try to put words in my mouth or to twist what I say.
Calling a cat or dog a pet is not derogatory. Calling them food probably crosses that line, though.
