A Methodist church in Claremont unveiled a nativity scene Saturday night depicting Jesus, Mary and Joseph as refugees in cages, likening one of the most well-known images of the Christmas season to photos that have become synonymous with criticism of the Trump administration’s border separation policies.
The display, which has stoked debate on the Facebook page of the church’s lead pastor, shows classic nativity figurines of Joseph and Mary in cages on either side of a cage containing the manger of Jesus.
“We see this as, in some ways, the Holy Family standing in for the nameless families,” said the Rev. Karen Clark Ristine, the lead pastor at Claremont United Methodist Church.

Maybe someone local could slip up on them and attach a placard to each one titled: Obola's cages 2008-2016.

So help me, people like the reverend have their heads where the sun don’t shine. What in Heaven’s name are they thinking? Is this being “woke”? This has to stop...the adults have to have he courage to start speaking up instead of cowering in silence!

Considering the garbage that those leftist "churches" believe and preach, be thankful that it wasn't Cory Booker, Ilhan Omar and Greta Thunberg.

This is one of those "Methodist" churches that have declared themselves superior to the Divine Wisdom of the ages, as evidenced by the unbiblical practice of women in leadership.

Except those are Obama's cages. But then good leftists don't let petty things like "facts" bother their agenda.

Joseph was going back to his home town. He was, as was the entire area around Israel, a subject of Rome following orders. There would be no cages.
But, maybe you'd have to READ the Bible to know that.

They are doing this to get in the minds of the Christians. They are probably sitting around and waiting to see how many hits they get on Facebook and laughing because no one can physically face them.

1) The Holy Family were not homeless or refugees, they were in Joseph's hometown for the census and couldn't find a hotel room. 2) Never listen to a female Reverend. 3) I've started to realize how funny it is that non Catholics suddenly like statues during Christmastime. 4) If you've never done so, attend a Latin Mass this Advent season.

Jesus was a Jew because in Jewish law the mother determines race. There was no "birthright citizenship" involved.
By the way sick Methodists, Jesus was born in MUCH more humble conditions than any illegal invader gets in our detention centers. Jesus was born outside, in a feeding trough, and had to be wrapped in funerary wrappings... no roof, no blanket, no mattress, no heater.

As soon as I saw the headline, I knew it was a lie-beral woman minister behind this blasphemy!!!!!
There is a reason that St. Paul said in no uncertain terms that women should never be in positions of authority in the church!!!

When Herod decided to kill all male infants in Bethlahem, the Holy Family fled to Egypt. In a sense, they were refugees. However, they did not claim Egypt owed them a 'living wage' or health care. Joseph, as the man of the house paid their way with his skills and hard labor. They had no rights or citizenship due to any of Jesus' siblings being born while they were there; they were offered no special status.
This attempt to equate modern refugees with the family of Jesus is quite pitiful.

The Methodist's have always been left of center. Episcopalians take second place. It is tragic that Christianity is self destruction right before Christmas. God help us.

G-d save US all. If only the Methodist and US government cared as much about taxpaying American citizens; especially the forgotten elderly.

Just one more reason I left the Methodist church. It’s sad that their members unknowingly continue to support the UMC and are oblivious to their radical agenda.
Their Board of Church and Society is mingled with the World Council of Churches. Pure unmitigated Marxism. My late parents would be heartbroken.

Ignorant people - or - deliberately spreading a false impression of the Nativity of Jesus Christ. Joseph and Mary were not refugees when they were in Bethlehem. They were refugees for some time when they were in Egypt - but not in Bethlehem. Was this stupid pastor offended by Obama's administration which set up the policy of separating the children from the adult during the evaluation of relationships at the border?

It's that time again, when the birth of Jesus is used to score political points. Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Why? Not because Mary and Joseph were refugees, they were travelers who couldn't find an inn with a vacant room. After Jesus was born, they paid their taxes and went back home. Later when they were forced to flee to Egypt, that doesn't mean they were refugees either. Both Egypt and Israel were part of the Roman Empire. It would be like me moving from Tennessee to Alabama.

To further what #10 said, the reason that Mary and Joseph were traveling was to be counted in the census in order to PAY TAXES!

To me it looks like a depiction of the California taxpayer. You have to go way out of your way to pay the taxes, and the government views you as a caged slave.

Evangelical religions have the right idea in not elevating women to pastoral roles. Every Leftist boneheaded decision made by various liberal denominations seems spearheaded by (frequently lesbian) women clergy.
