There’s something my former CBS News colleague Lesley Stahl said a while back that continues to haunt me. It was something she says President Trump told her, off camera.... She says she told him that his constant bashing of the media was tiresome. “Why are you doing it?” she says she asked him. According to Stahl, (he) responded with this: “I do it to discredit you all and demean you all so when you write negative stories about me no one will believe you.”

So much fake news about Trump. I don't believe this story, either.
The idea that the news is fake doesn't just come from Trump, but from the performance of the media.

Yes, Mr. Obvious, we know that POTUS attacks the MSM to discredit them. Goldberg loses any cred when he insists there is no fake news. THREE years of "the walls are closing in!!" from "unnamed sources who "have proof of...(fill in the blank)"...
The MSM has played an integral part of the coup. Goldberg wants to deny that can go someplace...very very warm.

Gee Bernie, you sure have changed your tune since your bestseller , "Bias". So, which song should we believe? This whiney diatribe is something we'd expect from AOC. Might be time to go lay down by your dish.....

The worst thing about it is that it is true. You cannot read a news article today and expect to be given an unbiased account of what actually happened. Instead, there is always a "moral of the story," which the writer's choice of words are used to imply. Examples: Homeless people are never responsible for their own condition. Criminals are always victims of some societal failing. People with less always deserve more than they have.
Worse, statements in articles that are clearly opinion are presented as fact. It is not true that allegations of misconduct by Hunter Biden in the Ukraine are "disproven." Yet you will read that word or its equivalents in articles criticizing President Trump for referring to it.
Journalists used to be reporters. They reported facts and got them right. Now they are storytellers, and the stories they tell are moralistic fairy tales that serve a political agenda.

In my opinion, the worst part of the "fake news" is the omissions. Maybe what the reporters say is factually true, but is it the whole story? Almost never. I think that's their angle more than outright lying. And it works pretty well. Go up to any Democrat you know and mention something that's going on. They will not have even heard about it. Certainly that affects their opinions more than outright lies. (If Leslie Stahl quotes the President, what is she leaving out?)
Mr. Goldberg omits the part about the omissions.

"except in the rarest of instances, journalists do not make up stories out of nothing just to hurt him."
Oh really? (with cat icon following the question mark)
Bernard can say this with a straight face after the major MSM outlets have been told by their ultra-liberal management to slam Donald Trump every day and mask the truth in favor of their constant stream of lies about his many crimes and misdeeds? When you can tune in to one of the Lefty networks with their groups of politically biased talking heads and predict what they are going to say before they say it? Try again, Bernard, you muffed this one.

From the Author's bio at the foot of the article:
He is the author of five books, including “Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News” (2001) and “A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (And Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media” (2009).
Sell out much, Bernie?

I haven’t heard about Bernie in ages.I thought he had fallen off the edge of the earth, but he must have gotten lonely out there and is trying to make a comeback by getting back into the good graces of the lefty media with this crap. The media is part of the coup Bernie, or haven’t you been listening out there in the hinterlands? All they print is negativity about Trump and nothing about the good things he has brought about. Go crawl back into your hole and stay there.

#11 has it sooo right. The media has an agenda and they control the news by what they DON'T report, not by what they report.
They have a good thing going:
1. They can't be sued for something they DIDN'T report, so they're basically not held accountable.
2. How do their readers/viewers know about something they don't know about?
Those who watch ONLY the alphabets, CNN, MSNBC or read the NYTimes or WaPo have a completely different view of what's going on in the world than those who watch ONLY FOX or read the WSJ.
Maybe BOTH sides have an agenda---and the truth is somewhere in-between, who knows?
Either way, if I had been told every day in my long life that the sun rises in the west, I would believe that the sun rises in the west. If someone showed up who told me the sun rises in the east, I'd think I was in the presence of a crackpot. Wouldn't you?

Bernard, the irony of you, who wrote a book about the rampant liberal bias of the media years ago, complaining about the President calling out the liberal, biased media is hilarious. A little too late to walk it back, old man. Sit down and shut up.

Boy, did PDT get Leslie Stahl's goat with that comment or what? He's a master of twisting their brains into pretzels. And, he wasn't wrong anyway.
I hear the knees of journalists knocking in DC from here. Gotta love that sound!!!
MAGA!!! KAG!!! TRUMP 2020!!! Leslie, you got no goat in the fight anymore! President Trump got it!!!

They act like Trump's criticism of the news media is a new thing. It's not.
In 1970 Spiro Agnew referred to them in the classic quote, "nattering nabobs of negativism".
BTW, His speech writer was William Safire and the back story is he was the genius that created that line.
Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and many other media figures emerged to national popularity int eh 1990's because at last someone was countering the fake news.

Sorry Bernie, but YOU are wrong. They DO make up stories or run with extremely flimsily sourced stories which they gleefully believe, and DO NOT check out, because they want them to be true. If you don't bother to check out a story because you HOPE it will be true, how is that materially different from making up a story?
I don't see much difference, it is a distinction without a difference - the effect is myriad false (FAKE NEWS) stories published about the President.

Classic paraphrasing by Stahl of what Trump do doubt actually said. The nation already knows what t oexpect from the media. If it is so tiresome Lesley, then STOP doing it. Start telling the truth about everything. Stop protecting the Swamp, of which you are no doubt a big part of. If it is tiresome, it is all on YOU sweetie, not Trump and the voters.

The MFM myth-making continues. Liars quoted by the gullible. Do you believe anything Stahl says about the President? Doesn't her quote just fit the leftists' narrative a bit too neatly?
