For decades, Republicans and Democrats fought over the same things: whose values and policies work best for American democracy. But now, those age-old fights are changing. What was once run-of-the-mill partisan competition is being replaced by a disagreement over democracy itself.
This is particularly evident as the president and many of his allies crow about the illegitimacy of the House impeachment inquiry, calling it an attempted coup, and as the White House refuses to comply with multiple congressional subpoenas as part of the probe.
This marks a new phase in American politics. Democrats and Republicans might still disagree about policy,

Can't somebody shut this nonsense DOWN? I keep hearing how ridiculous it is, and how there's nothing there, but if it's allowed to continue to fester, I feel they will eventually be able to damage Trump with it. Lot of gullible voters out there.

In this article, the writer pretty much states if the Trump supporters and Republicans don't go along with the Dems the GOP is at fault for the divide in the country. That is bs. The Trump supporters and Republicans are standing up for Truth and Honor, it's the Dems/Libs/Media who are perpetrating a lie, farce and they are doing anything and everything to destroy an elected President. It's crap and I'm tired of it! And if this weak journalist is afraid that the half the country is going to fight for Trump, he is Right!

It is Democrats, as a rule, not Republicans, who are divisive, vicious and untrustworthy. The Dems chose a path some 60 years ago, and had some early success, starting with the murderous Johnson. They slimed Goldwater, smeared and pilloried Nixon. Then, they stumbled with Reagan. Seemed to catch their stride with Clinton and sprinted for the finish line.
But underneath, the voters objected silently, then more and more loudly. Trump is only the latest expression of America.
And we will no longer be silenced or stopped.

Insane. For the Left, black is white and up is down. They literally suffer from a mass psychosis and live in a fantasy world with everything in external reality filtered and distorted to show only what their dogma says it should be. I often wonder if it was like this in 1930s Germany, with the masses in that country believing in and living in the psychotic Nazi vision of an Aryan super race fighting the subhuman Jews who were seen as the source of all society's ills, no matter what the evidence to the contrary. Anyone who said otherwise had to be silenced or destroyed.

We are not a democracy. We are not a democracy. We are not even a "constitutional democracy," Pepinsky!

What a bizarre piece of propaganda. According to the Author, we have haven't yet reached a totally cleaved society, but we will if Republicans don't participate fully in the impeachment process. More Leftist fuzzy thinking/propaganda.

They are freaking out because they are losing, and they are cheating every possible way they can, and since the Dems have NO ethics whatsoever, there is nothing to stop them.

The author identifies himself with the Left when he claims that Trump hasn't cooperated with the House 'impeachment' effort. When the House actually votes to allow a valid impeachment hearing without the pre-establishment of guilt and with the fair opportunity for counter-argument then the White House may re-consider. But as it stands Trump should continue to be 'uncooperative'.

Spot on #10. Politico BS, written with typical moral and political superiority. "If Trump won't cooperate", " when Mitch observes it's overturning an election.", if Trump won't accept election results"
Hillary refused to accept election results, not Trump. Schiff & dems have deceived time and again as legitimate impeachment proceedings would prove.
I don't see an easy path back to sanity, unless it's a Nov drubbing so devastating to democrats that they're forced to accept voter sentiment ...or face extinction.

Thiws impeachment fight isw the only thing the Democrats have left. To allow the house to fall under such wanton control by Democrats made this inevitable ... it is all the Democrats have left now that the rest of their plans have failed. If we take it too seriously, we will build their hopes. If we don't take it seriously enogh, we fail to respond to the Democrats efforts at removing Trump. What is the best thing to do? Fight them at every turn, you end up looking as dub as them! Don't fight them enough and you risk everything over nothing!

You can either vote for communism or vote for freedom.
That's the real 2020 choice.
