Enough “Quid Pro Quo” Gaslighting

Horse trading is the oxygen of politics; it is how politicians are persuaded to care about things that otherwise would not make their radar. Not only does it happen all the time, but it is a core feature of our political system; representative government relies on this kind of political trading to ensure a plurality of interests and needs are satisfied. Bargaining isn’t corruption—it’s policymaking. (snip) It is not corruption. It’s the warp and woof of a democratic political system.

Perhaps our rock-ribbed NeverTrumpers would benefit from reading this.

Let's stop convulsing over "quid pro quo" If there were not Quid Pro Quo there is something wrong with handing out money and expecting nothing in return. The USA is NOT a charity - This afternoon I will be handing out candy - I I expect a Quid Pro Quo - Say "Trick or Treat" of "Happy Halloween" and or "Thank you" and you are on your merry way. I will even prompt the little guys who are speechless, but I expect something from you at my door with your bag open.

OK, the Democrats won on this. What do I mean? The real issue is Biden using his power for personal financial gain... thru his son. Notice how this article defends QPQ in a way that ignores, or worse, exonerates Biden? Yup. Score one for them.

Pope Francis on Sunday scolded countries that produce weapons for wars fought elsewhere and then refuse to take in refugees fleeing the very same conflicts. The 82-year-old Argentine pope, whose parents were of Italian immigrant stock, has made the defense of migrants and refugees a plank of his pontificate and he has often clashed over immigration policy with US President Donald Trump and populist anti-immigrant politicians in Europe.

Republicans have had their differences these past few years. Most have supported President Trump; a few have not. Some of the president’s supporters have been enthusiastic; many have not. Some of the reluctant Trump supporters have expressed reservations at certain times; many have not. But with the revelations of the last week, and the launch of a formal impeachment inquiry, we are at a new moment.

Britain's Ambassador to Washington has described Donald Trump as 'inept', 'insecure' and 'incompetent' in a series of explosive memos to Downing Street. Sir Kim Darroch, one of Britain's top diplomats, used secret cables and briefing notes to impugn Trump's character, warning London that the White House was 'uniquely dysfunctional' and that the President's career could end in 'disgrace'. His bombshell comments risk angering the notoriously thin-skinned President and undermining the UK's 'special relationship' with America.

An Arkansas woman is suing the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, alleging that he is the father of her baby. Thus far, she’s been unable to serve him with the papers, her attorney said. Lunden Alexis Roberts filed a petition for paternity and child support against Robert Hunter Biden in Independence County on May 28, days after Hunter Biden reportedly married another woman in California. The two-page suit states that Roberts and Hunter Biden “were in a relationship” and that “Baby Doe” was born in August 2018 “as a result of that relationship.” It doesn’t say how or where they met or offer other personal details.

With a deadline for nearly 30 cases looming and weighty issues of religion, gerrymandering and the 2020 census pending, Chief Justice John Roberts took his black leather chair at the bench this week and said three decisions were ready to be announced. It was a paltry total for a week in June, the final month of the annual session. What's more, two of the three were by unanimous votes and none made big headlines. But the term won't end this way. And much of the weight of this momentous session is on Roberts' shoulders.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) issued a statement Friday tearing into President Donald Trump over the Mueller report, declaring he was “sickened” by its findings. Romney wrote, in a statement posted to Twitter, that it was “good news” Mueller’s team found insufficient evidence to charge Trump with conspiring with Russia to influence the 2016 election. “The business of government can move on,” he said. “Even so, I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” Romney continued.

Chief Justice John Roberts arrived at the Valletta campus of the University of Malta on July 3, 2012, to teach a class on Supreme Court history. As he emerged from the back seat of a black sedan, he held his brown leather briefcase in front of him, almost as a shield. He wore a blue blazer, striped button-down shirt, and tan khakis. His clothes looked crisp, though his face was haggard. He was as exhausted and distressed as he had been in years. Roberts had left behind a storm in Washington over his opinion upholding President Barack Obama´s health-care overhaul

In a long-awaited plan released Friday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) pledged to not raise middle-class taxes to pay for her proposed single-payer health care system. After months of dodging questions about whether she would hike middle-class taxes to pay for Medicare for All, the 2020 candidate made a firm promise to voters about a $52 trillion system involving $20.5 trillion in new federal spending over the next 10 years. "We don't need to raise taxes on the middle class by one penny to finance Medicare for All," Warren wrote in a post detailing her proposal.

Former first lady Michelle Obama said Tuesday that her husband, former President Barack Obama, could have built his presidential library anywhere in the world because many feel he is “their president.” Obama, speaking at the Obama Foundation Summit at the Illinois Institute of Technology, explained Chicago’s Jackson Park was selected as the site for the Obama Presidential Center because it was close to the couple’s former home and situated near her South Side childhood home. “There’s power in the selection of Jackson Park,” the former first lady said. “Barack and I don’t do things incidentally. There’s a strategy.” Obama then argued the library could have even been built outside of the United

For the third time in a row since Common Core was fully phased in nationwide, U.S. student test scores on the nation’s broadest and most respected test have dropped, a reversal of an upward trend between 1990 and 2015. Further, the class of 2019, the first to experience all four high school years under Common Core, is the worst-prepared for college in 15 years, according to a new report. The National Assessment of Educational Progress is a federally mandated test given every other year in reading and mathematics to students in grades four and eight. (Periodically it also tests other subjects and grade levels.) In the latest results,

A former Clinton adviser says that should Joe Biden drop out of the race, Hillary Clinton will run for president again because “she feels that God put her on the Earth to do it.” Do we really deserve that much punishment from the Almighty? Dick Morris, who advised Bill Clinton in his 1978 campaign for Arkansas governor, and again in his 1996 White House re-election effort, says it is his “feeling” that Hillary wants to run. “She feels entitled to do it,” he said on John Catsimatidis’ Sunday morning radio show from New York. “She feels compelled to do it. Right now, wildfires are scorching tens of thousands of acres in California, choking the air with smoke, spurring widespread prophylactic blackouts, and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people. Right now, roughly 130,000 Californians are homeless, and millions more are shelling out far more in rent than they can afford, commuting into expensive cities from faraway suburbs and towns, or doubling up in houses and apartments. Wildfires and lack of affordable housing—these are two of the most visible and urgent crises facing California, raising the question of whether the country’s dreamiest, most optimistic state is fast becoming unlivable. And if you can do that to the former vice president of the United States, you can do it to every American. It’s utterly lawless.

During the 2018 midterms, dozens of “moderate” Democrats won House seats in swing districts by forswearing partisan feuds in order to concentrate on the needs of their constituents. They pledged to focus less on conflict than on finding common ground with their Republican colleagues. They also modulated their comments concerning President Trump and, when the subject of impeachment arose, they insisted that it would be a destructive and unproductive exercise. Thursday, however, all but two voted in favor of a hyper-partisan impeachment resolution, exposing their campaign promises as cynical lies and ensuring that the Democrats will lose their House majority in 2020.
