Killing Islamic terrorist leaders can be celebrated, but don’t talk about taking the oil in regions they controlled or you’ll be accused of a “war crime.” President Donald Trump is drawing criticism over his announcement of the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, specifically for speaking about the oil in northern Syria. “Where Lindsey and I totally agree is the oil,” Trump said. “The oil is so valuable. For many reasons. It fueled ISIS: number one. Number two: it helps the Kurds. Because it’s basically been taken away from the Kurds. They were able to live with that oil.

Further, the election of Donald J. Trump disturbed the conservative intellectuals even more, especially those who had vehemently opposed Trump in the primaries. Virginia is one of a few states and jurisdictions in America that hold major elections in the “off-years", during which neither Congressional nor Presidential elections take place. That’s part of the reason why determined, hard left Democrats have relentlessly turned this state blue over the past several election cycles. In these oddball, off-year elections, relatively few voters turn out to cast their ballots. That means that the party most effective in turning out its base is virtually guaranteed a win.

President Donald Trump can certainly take a victory lap for the operation that killed the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Prior to his death, Baghdadi had declared ISIS a "caliphate," as his terrorist army stormed across Syria and Iraq, seizing territory the size of Portugal and ruling over some 8 million subjects. At Trump's Sunday news conference, he said the ISIS leader was also personally responsible for the death of American aid worker Kayla Mueller. This appears to be the first official US acknowledgment of Baghdadi's role in her death, as ISIS had claimed that she had died in a Jordanian airstrike in 2015.

After the longest war in the history of our country, it is time for our troops to return home. In 2001, the United States responded to the horrific terrorist attacks of 9/11 by sending our military to Afghanistan on a mission to destroy Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. We were successful in destroying their terrorist camps, killing and capturing Al-Qaeda leaders, and forcing Bin Laden out of the country. Amazingly, our military is still in Afghanistan, although the Taliban control over half of the country. An estimated 6,000 women and girls in Ireland have had their genitals mutilated, and experts warn that another 3,000 girls are currently at risk of being subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM). At a conference in Dublin, activists gathered to decry the practice of FGM and called for a national plan of action. The Journal reports that Senator Ivana Bacik, who helped craft Ireland’s anti-FGM legislation, said that the practices should be treated as “a serious form of child abuse”. FGM, sometimes referred to as “cutting”, is a cultural practice in which some or all of a pre-pubescent girl’s external genitalia is removed. The World Health Organization (WHO)

John Murawski does an excellent job of detailing the nuts and bolts of the new evangelism in “Woke History Is Making Big Inroads in America’s High Schools.” He begins by delving into California, where a hideous ethnic studies requirement was shelved temporarily in August as many groups protested its anti-capitalist, anti-Semitic bias. In addition to Jews, Armenians, Greeks, Hindus, Koreans and other groups also called for changes. But while it is not a requirement yet, the new religion is most definitely thriving. The affinity for American Jews for the Democrat Party has long been a political curiosity. The distinguished essayist Milton Himmelfarb observed that in America, Jews had attained the socioeconomic status of Episcopalians, but for some reason they continued to vote like Puerto Ricans. I am worried about the Democratic Party’s new focus on Medicare-for-all. The merits of the policy are anything but a slam dunk, but, more immediately, the politics are a minefield. When it comes to health-care reform, Democrats need to mind three basic rules. First, experience teaches us that much as Americans hate the status quo, they’re not too excited about change, either. Second, policy is not everything — political communication counts, too. Third, success ultimately rests with uniting your allies and dividing your opponents.
