Tiffiney Zinger said it was painful telling her daughter she couldn't use a family vacation photo for her second grade class project – the image was marred by what appeared to be a symbol of hate.
The photo shows the 6-year-old girl, who is biracial and has autism, posing with an actor dressed as the movie character Gru from "Despicable Me" during a Universal Orlando breakfast event attended by the Zinger family in March. The character formed an upside-down "OK" symbol with his fingers, recognized by some as a hate symbol, on the girl's shoulder, according to a photo and video reviewed by USA TODAY.
A Universal Orlando Resort spokesman said Tuesday

So now the Okay sign has been universally banned because some few idiots used it. I guess scuba divers will have to give up their underwater hand indication that they are 'alright'. The rainbow has been stolen by homosexual perverts as has the word 'gay' itself.
And God-forbid that I wear blackface or wear an Indian costume in some apparent crime called 'cultural appropriation'. When will this end?

When will this end?
When Jesus comes back.

I dunno - but this "It can cause emotional stress on my child and her development." feels like it was written by an attorney. How in the world will a little girl feel emotional stress by all of this, except that which her parents initiate through publicity.
I'm waiting for someone to name the "thumbs up" gesture as objectionable for one focus group or another. Time's gonna come where I just have to keep my hands in my pockets for fear of offending someone. I can think of a couple of gestures I find offensive, not to mention lots of offensive words now heard regularly on television - but I doubt I could muster up any support or legal backing for my sensitivities...

These people need to get a life.
I wonder how long it will be for 'blinking' (your eyelids) becomes a hate-symbol.

It’s good to be offended. In fact, I’m offended that you’re offended. I find this whole matter very offensive.

In many countries the "OK" hand symbol means something entirely different than what we in the States know it to mean. For instance, in France it can indicate whether you think someone is no good or worthless. In Brazil and Venezuela it represents a butt-hole and is therefore an insult. In Turkey I believe that it is considered a gay slur.
Funny that no one cared a whit about any of these other interpretations until some made-up attribution to white power groups and along with that, Trump supporters....because we all know that anyone who supports Trump is a racist, right?
These SJW are incredibly ridiculous. What a bunch of ill-informed babies looking for something, anything in fact, that they can be victims over. When they can't find anything they just make something up! Ugh.

I once lived in an area where there was a state school for the deaf, and used a laundromat frequented by some deaf clients. And I took #2 son with me to do our laundry.
Son is affable, began interacting with deaf young people, learned a small amount of sign language. And he was amused by the fact that there was a sign for 'azzhole.' (that is, a person, not an anus.)
The sign? Making the OK hand formation, but slapping the circular thumb and forefinger against one's own forehead.)
And I was impressed that American Sign Language would contain slang.

Look at their little boy's hand in the larger photo - he's making the same sign. Boy is he in trouble.

Oops. Second post apology.
I went back to the photo, and speculate that the person in costume would do what he did to avoid gripping the child's shoulder, an act which might have scared the child, as it would be intrusive. (The equivalent of a non romantic man hug.)
I also have to wonder how low USA Today will go to offer a fake news story.
Finally, I wonder about the motivation of the parents, who would take an autistic child into a fantasy setting and then fret about it.
I offer one more thing. Back in the hippie days of the late 1960s, they started a rumor that if one dried banana peels, one could smoke the peels to get high.
Some state legislatures debated bills to make that illegal.
It was a hoax!

This is quite absurd. EVERBODY knows that the OK sign means OK. This whole white power stuff is stupid and I for one am not going along with it. I'll make the OK sign if I want to and the SJWs will just have to live with it.

Well, I guess the only good thing about this is it makes it more acceptable to use the middle finger on these folks. If I do use the "OK" sign and get called on it by a snowflake, my refrain will be "I'm from Brazil, I was not being a racist, I was just calling you an a-hole".

Like #9, I noticed that the other child is also making what used to be the ok sign. That’s strange.

The 3 digit code for Will Rogers Airport is OKC. The state of Oklahoma is often abbreviated as OK. Will they have to scrub this from the history books?

Sorry for the 2nd post, but the resort said it is working with the family to make things right. How much is that, dollar wise? It's funny how cash makes racism go away!

It's not 'recognized by some as a (sic) hate symbol'; it's recognized by many as a litmus test for idiots who don't know what it means and WANT to be offended.

BTW... In American History, the OK sign stands for 'Oll Korrect' (a joke/wry comment) or Old Kinderhook a.k.a. Martin Van Buren, our 8th president. I couldn't care a bit about what it means to the Brazilians or Tibetans. The Germans marketed a carbonated beverage called "Pschitt".... and they did so without asking our permission. We've used OK for 200 years; you don't get to steal our history.

My first thought was "You have to be kidding me!" BUT then I ACTUALLY watched the video. It was obviously intentional. No doubt. Pretty nasty thing to do that to innocent kids.
I would be angry if a "character" covertly made a gesture that supported pedophilia, transgenderism, or homosexuality at a photo op with my kid and ruined family photos and memories.

The "OKAY" symbol is NOT anything bad and we need to vigorously resist this bullying attempt to take away a perfeclty benign, and LONG USED, LONG UNDERSTOOD friendly symbol.
I will not let the bullies win this BS.

Never heard of this "symbol". What is wrong with these demented, deranged democrats? I don't understand how they can be elected. Just look at the heard of donkeys braying out of tune with America.

Too bad that we can’t post emojis here - iPad and iPhone each have a hand making the OK sign. And horror upon horror, the hand is WHITE! I would post a couple dozen here but our hostess doesn’t approve of it and I don’t want to get banned.
