RUSH: Look, you’ll tell you something else is happening out there, folks. I saw… Have you noted all the Republican members of Congress that are again retiring? I think one of the reasons we lost the House in 2018 is that there were a huge number of Republicans who retired. Now, we were told the reason was, “Well, they’re being term limited out of their committee chairmanships, Mr. Limbaugh, and they don’t want to go back to just being regular members of the House. What’s in it for them? Once you become a committee chairman, you can’t go back to being a regular bencher.”

Addendum to Comments: Considering the “dirt” Leftists pursue to use against specific Republicans, as well as remembering the “White House FBI Files” of the Clinton administration (Filegate), it is not a stretch to agree with Rush about personal reputation.
Beyond reputation, other factors may include the restaurant intimidations by Leftists against Sarah Huckabee Sanders and family, Kellyanne Conway/daughter; Ted Cruz/wife; Mitch McConnell/wife; Kirstjen Nielson/companion; the protests outside the residence of Mitch McConnell; and the sniper attack against Steve Scalise, congressional members may not want to be subjected to such acts of physical or emotional violence. Rush agreed that these may be considerations.

Wait a minute! Isn't that what we want? The senators and representatives to come to DC, represent their constituents and then go home? I thought that was the whole point.

Folks... what I've been seeing, some of these "retirements" are occurring in pretty reliable republican districts and President Trump is on the ticket this time... don't get too worked up; if you're anxious, investigate and get real conservatives to run in the retiree's place... we ought not to fear Texas, I think it's a lot more "panic" thinking than where we ought to be...

OP Correction – Mea culpa! It was a caller from Chipley, Florida (not Connecticut) who suggested bullying and intimidation by Leftists causing Republican House members to retire rather than be subjected to acts of physical or emotional violence. Personally, am of the opinion that both Rush’s thinking and the gentleman from Chipley, Florida are correct due to Leftists digging dirt that threaten and intimidate.

How many of these people are never Trumpers? They may be leaving because they know Trump is going to win another term, and they don't want to be a part of it.

I don't understand why ALL of them have to retire at the same time. Why not wait and announce after the election and let the governor appoint someone (if the gov is a Republican). Why not get together and decide who should announce now and who should wait so that we can get the HOUSE back!

They must get tired of sitting and doing nothing for multiple terms. House Republicans have been in hibernation since Obama was crowned King of the World in 2008. Besides, they lose nothing by retiring except maybe the free haircuts and DC night life.

And yet, RBG just keeps holding on. They'll keep her hidden away on life support for years because they all unite and consider the party first. For some bizarre reason, we don't do that. We're about to see how this works out for us. We'd have no one to blame but ourselves for a blue Texas.

This just proves that the Republican party better be on the ball if they wish to take back the House and retain the Senate in 2020. If the Republican party does not bring their A-game, they will lose seats. Maybe they are OK with that, but the voting public REQUIRES an alternative to the lefty Democrats.

If they are leaving due to chairmanships ...we don’t need them. One thing for sure these lazy congressman will never find another job with all these vacation days & retirement benefits beyond belief.

Regardless of whatever each of their reasons are for leaving, let's just pray the principled, ethical and determined supporters of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights remain. Voters want and need those who love the USAand so will dedicate themselves to keeping their oath of office and their word to those whom they represent in Congress, the American citizenry.

Well, during the term of Emperor Obama the First, over 1000 Republicans replaced Democrats in state house elections. I guess we're going to find out if we really do have a good "farm team" to step up and fill those seats. As for the Texas seats, TX-23 is going to be a difficult one to hold, but with solid candidates, we should hold the rest. And flip a couple taken in 2018. With hard work, by the way. Don't take anything for granted.

Would not surprise me if this is all a big tantrum about term limited in their committee chairs. Ridiculous. If they are worried about sleazy stuff coming out, let it come. Congress is part of the swamp and needs a cleaning as well. Hush Fund payout list anyone? The one that has been around since the Clinton era, 1995. All taxpayer funded and I am betting there are some big names who need to be reimbursing the taxpayers.

The fact that such bullying is going on, leads me to believe they are being privately threatened as well - either with physical violence, or far more deadly, the destruction of their reputations.
We are coming to the End Times. Armageddon, Ragnarok. We will need to be strong and ruthless.

Look at what happened to Sarah Sanders at the Red Hen restaurant. Would you like to live in a town that is openly hostile to conservatives? Most Federal Agencies need to be moved out of Washington D.C. and Congress needs to meet just twice a year, period. Keep the Congress-critters living in their jurisdictions, and no more lavish limousine liberal lifestyles for the "electeds."

Maybe they see another win coming. They are addicted to losing and prefer to be the minority party; stomping and pontificating but never having to deliver.

Well, this posting didn't exactly improve my mood.
Politicians are similar to most educators; generally decent folks that don't have it in themselves to"Stand up and Be Counted!"

I also suspect some are simply obeying the directions of their Masters, the Democrats, who are willing to sacrifice their pawns to make a statement.

Rush suggested reputation may be a factor because no person “...is clean and pure as the wind-driven snow.” Everyone has something they don’t want others to know about. However, a caller from Connecticut suggested that, having seen the bullying and intimidation of select Republicans, congressional members may not want to be subjected to such acts of physical or emotional violence. Rush agreed that these may be possible considerations.
