Fake news and social media posts are such a threat to U.S. security that the Defense Department is launching a project to repel “large-scale, automated disinformation attacks,” as the top Republican in Congress blocks efforts to protect the integrity of elections. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency wants custom software that can unearth fakes hidden among more than 500,000 stories, photos, video and audio clips. If successful, the system after four years of trials may expand to detect malicious intent and prevent viral fake news from polarizing society.

We can depend on the Deep State to rig the 2020 election -- completing by projection what they spent over two years trying to pin on President Trump. For by definition, the "Deep State" includes seditious members of both political parties and the media. That's the evil Donald Trump ran against in 2016, and that's what got him elected president by loyal Americans.

DARPA are the folks who brought us Facebook. Are they trying to fix a mistake? What could go wrong?

Another odd occurrence is that DARPA sent out a tweet requesting access to any commercial properties or those owned by universities. They were looking for those properties that have underground tunnels .that are several blocks long. They wanted these venues by August 30. DARPA claimed they were needed to run experiments. REALLY????? Sounds extremely suspicious to me.

The technology of fact checking is actually an active area of Artificial Intelligence research. The problem comes from the complexity of context which can result in what legal experts term "alternative facts". If someone publishes a statement that "the temperature in Boston is 65 degrees" and another person publishes a statement that "the temperature in Boston is 90 degrees" they can both be right or wrong. The context of the first statement might be at a different time or day or they may be talking about different objects, one a city and the other Boston Gardens. TV commentators ridiculed Kelly Anne Conway for making this point about some of President Trump's statements but it is a real issue that they ignore in trying to attack the President. Facts are not as clear cut as people think.

The MSM will view this as a attempt to censor them. Wait for the first amendment argument to be used by the media.

Gee, they've only scheduled four years of trials for this project. In four years, God knows whether or not we will still be able to use our own computers. We may all have to go to the centralized computer building where we will show our picture i.d. (never could get it to happen for voter identification), be told which computer in what room to use, and be assigned a same-day password.
Meanwhile, it is 2019, and Mitch McConnell refuses to consider election-security legislation.
And Mitch should be more concerned about the legal precedents that are happening now than the so-called McCarthyism that happened decades ago.

Mark me down in #4's column above. This is a ludicrously stupid, dangerous idea, and entirely unconstitutional and unjustified on the face of it. It is not the business of the United States government to decide what is true, nor is it that their business to restrict untruth in any way. We are free citizens with minds of our own, and we will decide what is true for each one of us. The idea that government would be involved in any of this makes me cringe.

Without question there should be wariness about such a project, just as there was about creating the Department of Homeland Security; however, in today’s age of mass communication, national security needs to be a serious consideration from domestic/foreign sources.
Are dissenters CONTENT with the indoctrination of children throughout all levels of education, public and private? ...with the almost instantaneous assembly of protesters who bring violence to city streets? ...with the character assassination of President Trump and his family? ...with the anger, vengeance, hatred toward him and his family? ...with the willful effort of Leftists to destroy not only the man and his family, but his family’s business, their livelihood? ...with the danger being set upon average citizens who dare to wear a MAGA cap or express appreciation for President Trump? ...with the domination of the Left’s propaganda 24/7/365 via the mainstream media that influences not only American citizens, but foreign governments and their citizens? ...with the brainwashing of American citizens to hate conservatives but adore liberals? ...with the deliberate disregard for the U. S. Constitution, the Laws of the land? ...with what many believe to be an attempted domestic coup d'état? --- Continued ---

--- Continued --- ...with the incremental steps to silence people of faith? ... with cyberspace bullying of children that may cause some youngsters to commit suicide? ...with cyberspace influence to persuade weak-minded individuals to join terrorist organizations or commit mass murders? ...whatever?
Of course it may be a slippery slope, but where and how does a country begin to turn around the disasters sown by Leftists dominating this country for decades? This is a four-year project that might not only serve as a positive for national security, but for the protection of current individuals daring to distance themselves from Leftism, as well as for future generations because of fake news and disinformation. On balance, hate crimes in this country permit federal prosecution based on “a person’s protected characteristics of race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability.”
As despicable as he was, German Nazi politician and Propaganda Minister, Joseph Goebbels summed it up: “You have nothing to fear, if you have nothing to hide.”
