New York - Kentucky fried plant-based chicken is coming to a KFC in Atlanta this week.
In a test of Beyond Meat's latest fake meat creation, KFC will offer "Beyond Fried Chicken" at a single restaurant in Smyrna, Georgia, near Atlanta's SunTrust Park.
Beyond Meat (BYND) has added chicken to its lineup of plant-based products, which include burger, ground beef and sausage alternatives, among other meat substitutes. KFC will become the first nationwide fast food restaurant to test Beyond Meat's plant-based chicken.Plant-based meat alternatives have grown popular in supermarkets and restaurants across the world, as people search for environmentally friendly and healthier foods to eat.

A very old vegetarian restaurant in Shanghai has been making fake chicken from soy for many decades.
KFC’s quality has already been in decline for a long time. What’s to hurt?

Yuch.
I'm sorry, I find this whole "fake meat" deal to be bizarre, entirely unappetizing and ....just weird.
Is this the darned PITA folks' doing?

With a side of olestra-tots and a New Coke guzzler, this could be a genius marketing move.

There are a couple of companies developing real meat from cells in a lab. They extract the cells from a living animal and no need to kill it. Then they grow the cells into steak meat, etc. Sounds weird but it would be real meat, not a substitute.

When you remove real chicken deep fried then all you remain with are fried 'hockey pucks'. Go for it KFC and go out of business like Burger King. I quit all of the fast foods troughs years ago I don't dine on 'plastic food'. Let the liberals eat my ration of soy I'm not participating.

Wooly mammoths were good enough for grandpa; we don't need no stinkin' chickens or cows. C'mon people, how is this a bad thing? Do conservatives now think plant protein is the equivalent of fluoridated water or chemtrails or something?

Somebody please tell them to stop wasting time and money. What's up? Leftists are fake so they want their food to be fake too? Just call it something else. It's plant based; call it plinger picking plicken or something. Because it's plant-based, does that make it any more environmentally friendly and healthier? Just kill yourself if you can't handle hurting the planet. The planet will survive longer than all of us. Good grief! this is just plain annoying.

I actually love Beyond Meat’s burgers. I have very high cholesterol and my mother died of heart disease when she was the age that I am now, so I gave up all meat about 10 years ago. Beyond Meat burgers taste like the real thing. One of our local markets sells “vegan” chicken salad which also tastes like the real thing, even my carnivore husband likes it. Don’t know if it is made by Beyond Meat but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.

I'm waiting for some outfit to make vegan burgers....out of real vegans. Kind of stringy, not much flavor...but they are low fat.

I'm old enough to know that the real thing is always healthier than the fake, in the end.
Butter not margarine; sugar not aspartame; eggs not egg substitute; restricted calories not diet pills

First tufurky. Now soybean chickens. Enough of the elitist food crap. Give me a good old fashioned fried chicken breast fresh off a one year old hen/rooster (makes no difference), and a sweetened ice tea. A simple pleasure but a tasty pleasure.

I don't know how those prices they mention compare to the real thing, but it better be cheaper than chicken because KFC is already way too pricey.

If you dont like it, dont buy it.
Im willing to give it a try though. I was about to order an impossible burger the other day until I learned that I could have two farm animal burgers for the same price.

No soy for me. As a post-cancer person, I am to limit consumption of soy products. It is believed that soy fed the estrogen that fed the cancer. If the cancer returns, it's 'chop chop' time.

Beyond Meat, at least the pork and beef, are supposed to be soy, gluten, and everything else free. I have no interest personally because I like real food from farms not laboratories but it might be a solution for some.

Great way to ruin a brand ! This would be the final nail...to leave the impression--creating doubt forever- that their food is not real. A classic mistake on par with Gillette.
Chik-fil-a and Popeyes must be hurting them.

Why can't companies stick to what made them great in the first place? Wandering off the ranch again.
I don't eat chicken or fast food. Gave up my cardboard burgers too because of soy.

Other than the fact, KFC is 90% fact, the original KFC recipe has disappeared decades ago. You can get the same stuff at many supermarkets, not saying it's healthy. but it's half the price. The Colonel was paid 1 million dollars to shut up about the crap KFC now serves. I won't go there.

What's surprising about fake chicken in the era of fake news? For the time being most of us will stick with the bird. As Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) said in Death Wish 3 , "Chicken's good. I like chicken." He wasn't talking about a plant substitute.
