Oregon students will be allowed to take “mental health days” off from school, just as they would sick days, under a new bill signed by the governor. The bill would allow excused school absences for mental or behavioral health and is a victory for youth activists — who also unsuccessfully fought for gun control and lowering the voting age. The students behind the measure say it’s meant to change the stigma around mental health in a state that has some of the United States’ highest suicide rates. Mental health experts say it is one of the first state laws to explicitly instruct schools to treat mental health

Like this won't be taken advantage of by the students, but I guess it beats skipping school like we did back in my day. I'm wondering, do you get double the mental health days if you claim your going nuts because of President Trump? After all it IS Oregon.

Typical move by Leftists, hiding a bad motive behind a good one. Jump right on children, you will finish your "Education" hopelessly in debt, ignorant to the nth degree and employable only as another member of the Soros Street Mobs.

When ranking the education standards for the different states, one of them has to be last. It looks like the new winner for last place will be Oregon.

What keeps a kid from taking a mental health day now? If the parent agrees to it, the parent can write a note saying the kid is not well enough to attend school. And if the kid is having emotional difficulties -- especially beyond the usual stresses of life -- then what is the problem? Why do you need a law for that? Can't you just do that now?
I would be concerned that (a) this would be abused and (b) kids with significant mental/emotional issues would use such a day off to commit suicide.
At any rate, I don't get it.

In Oregon, physician assisted suicide is legal.
Have they considered that having such a law legitimizesindirectly self-assisted suicide? And that could cause in increase in suicide rates in Oregon?

Given how liberal the public education system is, the less time kids spend being indoctrinated in the Leftist spew, the healthier they will be. But with all the days off that already happen, seems to me that the school kids are skating on very thin legal ice here. Add in the special days off for 'teacher work days' and they are already cutting it very close. Kids are required to be in school a certain number of days a year, and you cannot get around that, though they are trying.

Given the mental health of the snowflake generation, and especially those in Oregon, this basically means that one can get through high school and attend college, never set foot in a classroom and graduate with a bachelor’s degree.

Shelter in place and meditation rooms with gun free zones and now mental health days are just the thing to keep children from becoming functioning well balanced adults.

It seems to me that Oregon students would benefit highly by taking EVERY day off from school. Life is not like being a happy rabbit munching on his clover every day.

I say this is a good thing. Pass more nonsensical laws like this. The sooner public school's go the way of the pet rock, the better. Ban homework, tests and limit reading to 1/2 hour/day. Wouldn't want to strain the kiddies eyes.

Your resume looks very good sir but I see you went to school in Oregon. We don't have mental health days at this company so I don't think you'd be a good fit. Don't slam the door.
