Despite endless gun violence reports put forward by the establishment media, the dirty little secret is firearm homicides have plummeted over the past 25 years. Yet most Americans, particularly Democrats, believe firearm murders have risen period. Washington Post analysis shows Democrats, followed closely by independents, are more apt to believe firearm murders have increased. And this feeds the Democrat psyche which is already more prone to support an expansion of gun control laws. But the reality is that the high water mark for firearm murders was 1994 while 2017, the most recent year with complete data on incidents, shows a sharp drop. There were “16,136 [firearm murders]

Concealed carry is a significant part of this. John Lott's book, More Guns, Less Crime compares county by county before and after CCW legislation, each county compared to itself, and shows conclusively that rape, murder and other violent crimes drop dramatically when CCW laws come into being. The antigun left went hysterical when the book came out, they made all sorts of claims against him and his methodology. But none of their hysteria had an basis in fact, and his work has never been refuted by any legitimate work, although he and his book are regularly smeared. The facts are there. There are added demographic reasons, too. And there are still high crime local areas, largely with the expected high concentrations of violent demographic subgroups. And frequently there are areas where people are not permitted, by law, to be armed to defend themselves.

Yes, I did know this. From the early 1990s violent crime has been dropping across-the-board. Yet, the democrats are bad-mouthing the bi-partisan effort of increased policing, modernization of police departments, and truth-in-sentencing/three-strikes you're out rules as being "racist" and "mass incarceration". I can't help but suspect that they have ulterior motives in wanting to reverse these trends. More criminals on the streets will mean increased crime which would give them more excuses to implement gun control laws. Their true motive for gun control laws is controlling the population, not preventing crime.

Much/most of what ordinary Americans "know" about violent crime and guns is wrong, propaganda from the Enemedia. Mr. Lott's crime research site has a lot of good info for those who are interested. I met him and we had a few drinks some years ago, and discussed his book and his background. A very smart and interesting guy. At that time he had just come out with his first book on gun control, and was under furious, angry personal attack by the anti-gun folks. He was genuinely surprised at the vitriol about what he considered to be just another research project. He was not funded by NRA or anyone else in the gun control movement, was not a gun owner, or NRA member and was an economics professor looking for good research projects for grad students to teach them proper statistical research methodologies. He discovered that the field was rife with intentionally misleading "research" work, and has taken up the gauntlet to get out the facts.

Oregon students will be allowed to take “mental health days” off from school, just as they would sick days, under a new bill signed by the governor. The bill would allow excused school absences for mental or behavioral health and is a victory for youth activists — who also unsuccessfully fought for gun control and lowering the voting age. The students behind the measure say it’s meant to change the stigma around mental health in a state that has some of the United States’ highest suicide rates. Mental health experts say it is one of the first state laws to explicitly instruct schools to treat mental health

Seventy-five years ago, a suitcase

It’s been 75 years since Adolph Hitler sat down with his military officers at his top-secret, Wolfe’s Lair military compound in Prussia to discuss strategy for winning World War II. He had no clue that Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, one of his most trusted aides, had brought along a suitcase containing a bomb that he hoped would blow the Nazi dictator and his acolytes to smithereens. That would have cleared the way for Germany to make peace with the allies — and save many thousands of lives. But somebody had moved the suitcase close to a table. That deflected much of its explosive force. Hitler lived another year

Do you think you could tell if you’re eating real or fake meat? Burger King is so confident about its new plant-based offerings that as a part of a promotional campaign in Sweden, the fast-food chain is daring their customers to order from its new “50/50 menu,” meaning that Burger King will randomly select whether they get actual meat or plant-based patties in their sandwiches. “We are really proud of how hard it is to tell our plant-based burgers apart from real meat,” said Daniel Schröder, marketing director for Burger King Sweden, in a press release. “With the 50/50-menu, we hope that more people dare to try them.

Rahm Emanuel, the former chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and Chicago mayor, slammed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D., N..Y) chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti for attempting to "clear the moderate and centrists out of the party." New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd published a piece on Saturday detailing the "generational and ideological tangle" between Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and Ocasio-Cortez. Chakrabarti, who co-founded the liberal Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress groups before joining Ocasio-Cortez's office, sparked backlash a couple weeks ago when he compared moderate and Blue Dog Democrats, some of which are African American, to Southern segregationists in the 1940s.

Police in Washington state say an armed man was shot and killed early Saturday after trying to attack a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center. The Seattle Times reported that the unidentified man appeared outside of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma with a rifle and threw incendiary devices at both the facility and nearby propane tanks, at one point setting a vehicle on fire. Officers responded to the incident around 4 a.m. and called out to the man before shots were fired. It was not clear how many shots were fired or whether the man fired at police. Police spokesman Loretta Cool said the officers weren't

AT&T is the first mobile service provider that will automatically block robocalls for its customers. The free service comes after the Federal Communications Commission ruled in June that phone service providers can offer call-blocking options for customers who choose to be part of the service. The AT&T service will try to block the unwanted calls and notify customers when it might be a robocall, according to the company. The service is available on all new lines and will be added to existing lines “over the coming months.” Customers will get a text message when the service is added. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continued her war of words with Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday night, calling the Speaker of the House “outright disrespectful” for criticizing women of color. The Bronx Democrat was reacting to Pelosi’s repeated attempts at reigning in some of the more left-wing members of her caucus and chastising the freshman reps for tweeting too much. “When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Washington Post.

Word is spreading worldwide, even to sub-Saharan Africa, that the US has an open southern border and an open checkbook. This summer, thousands of Africans from Cameroon, Congo and other violence-plagued countries are forming caravans, preparing to cross our southern border, according to Customs and Border Protection reports. Border agents from the Del Rio area of Texas sounded the alarm on May 31 about a group of 116 African migrants. The agents provided photos of women with babies strapped to their backs and young men in T-shirts and gym shorts sitting on the US side of the Rio Grande, waiting to be arrested.

The AfroFuture Fest sparked outrage with its ticketing model for the August 3 event that saw people of color paying a maximum of $20 compared to $40 for “Non-POC” tickets. Biracial rapper Tiny Jag was so “enraged” she publicly withdrew from performing, and ticketing website Eventbrite threatened to bar the festival from its services, according to the Independent.
