WATERLOO, Iowa—Making Elizabeth Warren laugh can be tricky. Throwing her off her talking points is almost impossible. Both happened when she heard that her 2020 opponent Bernie Sanders is scheduled to deliver a “major address” today titled, according to his campaign, “How Democratic Socialism Is the Only Way to Defeat Oligarchy and Authoritarianism.” The Massachusetts senator shook her head. It was Sunday evening, and we were standing in the backyard of a house on the poorer side of town here. Warren had just explained how her proposed 2 percent tax on every dollar over $50 million—“Two cents!” she likes to shout—

The old communist Jew will never be a viable candidate for President. he might have his followers, as most filthy communists do. but, this disheveled, crazy looking old 'last century' loon is certainly NOT the image most folks think of as "Presidential". But, he is, as his fellow Ratty runners have found, good for a laugh or two.

But, Boinie - - Boinie - - socialism IS authoritarianism. It can't exist without total government control - - of everything. And capitalism IS anti-authoritarian. It can't exist without free markets and free citizens. Say it ain't so, Boinie. Please - - please say you understand that now.

Regarding proposals to "tax the rich", you'll note that the socialist proposers (take Bernie and Pocahontas, for example) always select a starting point for extra taxation that is well above their own level of income. Millionaire socialists are very protective of their own riches.

Where's The Apocalypse? 2 replies

With less than 10 days until the first Democrat debate, the most relevant question each and every candidate should be asked is, “Where’s the apocalypse?” Where is the doom and gloom we were assured would follow Donald Trump’s ascendency to the presidency? Where is the economic meltdown? Where is the tyrannical usurpation of power? Where? During the only presidential debate of 1980, Ronald Reagan cemented his legacy as “The Great Communicator” by asking one simple question, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” Reagan’s question to the nation not only framed the election of 1980 in the most succinct and relatable terms,

The city of Waskom, Texas, has become the first in the nation to ban abortion, declaring itself a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” The Waskom city council unanimously voted Tuesday to adopt a resolution and an ordinance to make abortions in the city a criminal offense. Jesse Moore, the mayor of Waskom, a city located 18 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana, and called “The Gateway to Texas,” said the city council was approached by Right to Life East Texas with concerns that, with Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi having passed laws restricting abortions, abortion providers may consider Waskom to be an ideal location for a clinic.

The New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow sure knows how to get a media crowd buzzing. The Pulitzer Prize winner accepted a Mirror Award for media reporting from Syracuse University on Thursday for his stories on sexual misconduct at CBS, including allegations that toppled the corporation’s former leader, Leslie Moonves. Like other award winners, he saluted fellow journalists and industry leaders at the Manhattan luncheon for bravery in producing stories that keep the media honest and transparent — even at the cost of burning bridges and losing job opportunities. At the same time, he said “I can see people who have lied to protect power.”

At least 24 Memphis Police Department officers were injured during a large protest Wednesday night, Mayor Jim Strickland says. The violence erupted after officers of the U.S. Marshals Service shot and killed Brandon Webber, 20. The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. local time, as officers from the U.S. Marshals Service as part of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force tried to take a man into custody. When the officers approached the man, law enforcement officials said, he was getting into his car in the Frayser community in northern Memphis, Tenn. That man was Webber, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the case.

In Hong Kong's huge protest over a proposed law that would allow extradition from the territory to mainland China, there is far more at stake than "confidence" in the integrity of Hong Kong's legal system, or the health of Hong Kong's economy -- important though those both are. The real showdown going on in Hong Kong has long been between despotism and democracy, between tyranny and the Free World. And whether we, the free people of America, and our allies, choose to think of it this way or not, the reality is that the showdown now taking place in Hong Kong will shape our future as well.

It Started With a Lie: Bruce
Ohr's Linchpin Role in Russiagate

Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr was perfectly positioned to advance the Russia collusion narrative. He had a rare set of relationships -- ties to opposition researchers and the FBI -- and would use his links to both in 2016 to connect federal law enforcement to those advancing Trump-Russia conspiracy theories. A mystery remains: To some in his narrow circle, Ohr was upfront about the compromising nature of his connections, yet he hid that fact from officials charged with overseeing ethics at the Justice Department. Why, then, did Bruce Ohr admit to the FBI that his wife worked for opposition researchers Fusion GPS while failing to disclose it to the DoJ?

She was ordered to repay her campaign $3,500 as well as a $500 civil penalty to the State of Minnesota. It turns out that investigation also revealed Omar illegally filed joint tax returns with her current husband, despite being married to another man, the Associated Press reported. From the AP:

To call Freshman Congress member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez “brazen” is to traffic in redundancy. Since her arrival in D.C. she has moved between acting entitled to demanding obedience, well beyond her pay grade — and now she wants a higher pay grade as well. The subject of Congressional pay raises has come up and AOC, who has been on the job for mere months, is already stating she needs to be paid more. Maybe you can toss a hint of extortion in that mix as well. If you have ever worked in an office you may have encountered this type. Leftism Makes People Meaner: Reflections

The sadistic treatment of Paul Manafort illustrates something I have believed since I attended graduate school in the 1970s and saw the behavior of left-wing students: Leftism makes people meaner. There are kind and mean conservatives and kind and mean liberals. Neither liberalism nor conservatism makes people kinder or meaner. But this is not the case with leftism. With the handful of exceptions that accompany every generalization, leftism makes people meaner, even crueler. Take the transfer of Manafort, the one-time Trump campaign manager, from a federal prison to New York's Rikers Island prison. Rikers Island is universally regarded as a wretched place. As Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz wrote

House Democrats on Monday evening abruptly halted an effort to increase congressional pay for the first time since 2009, saying the proposal would be reviewed carefully after several freshmen Democrats made overt efforts to block it. Members of Congress generally make $174,000 per year, with senior leaders earning more, and no cost-of-living adjustments have been made in the past nine years. However, vulnerable swing-state Democrats, concerned how the proposed $4,500 pay hike would look if it didn't also have Republican support, had signed onto amendments rejecting the measure.

“What’s your pitch to the swing voter on the fence?” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked President Trump on Sunday. Questions of this sort are gifts to politicians, but interviewers ask them for a couple of reasons. One, they’re civic-minded. Politicians deserve the opportunity to make their cases straightforwardly — and voters deserve to hear them. Second, they save time. (Snip) Trump’s initial answer started off following the standard script. He got four words off that must have had his political advisors cheering, “Safety, security, great economy.” Ideally, this is where Trump should have stopped talking.
