Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College Closing Argument:
“When a powerful institution says you are racist,
you are doomed”

When Lee Plakas, the lead attorney representing Gibson’s Bakery, Allyn W. Gibson, and David Gibson, in their lawsuit against Oberlin College and Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo, started his closing argument this morning, he put a letter on the screen for the jury to see. It was entitled, “If Only Oberlin College Had Chosen to Do This.” This is what the jury and the rest of the crowded courtroom read: Dear Oberlin College Community, (Snip) We would like to reaffirm that Oberlin College respects the rule of law and believes that no individuals should expect, nor receive, special treatment,

Comments:

The college claims they had nothing to do with student publications; one “publication” by the student senate was a resolution emailed to 2800 students. Gibson’s attorney, Lee Plakas, has been remarkable throughout the trial. Today he said Oberlin College wants it both ways—being in charge and having influence, “but if anything happens, blame the students. ... When they had the ability to do the right thing, to be the adult in the room, what did they do?” In conclusion, using an analogy, he said the college “aided and abetted defamation, the same as one would in a crime.”

It makes me boil when mouthy children accuse others of being Nazis while acting like Nazis. Why didn't thay just paint 'Kauft Nicht Bei Juden' on the front of the bakery to complete the imagery?! I don't know who should be put up against a wall first...the mouthy students or their Political Officers that call themselves 'teachers'!

If the jury is paying attention, this should be a slam-dunk, with significant damages awarded to Gibson's. However, the cynic in me says that it won't be.

When are people going to get it through their heads that everything in stores, restaurants and bars is free of charge to Black patrons. The bakery is racist, all of the establishments in Myrtle Beach and other party beaches are racist and the many shopping malls across America that were chosen as peaceful gathering places for flash mobs are racist, racist! RACIST!

This statement from the Oberland Vice President and Dean of Students, Meridith Raimondo says it all for me. In referring to a professor who criticized the school: "“F**k him,” Raimondo sent out in an email to the school’s communication’s director. “I’d say unleash the students if I wasn’t convinced this needs to be put behind us.” This alone should have gotten her fired.

A chilling confession from a captured ISIS fighter has shed light on how the terrorist group intended to exploit the vulnerabilities of the U.S. border with Mexico, using English speakers and westerners to take advantage of smuggling routes and target financial institutions. (Snip)The attacks were described to Henricki as designed to “cripple the U.S. economy,” and he was said to have been informed that he would be issued false identification and passports and would be maneuvered from Puerto Rico to Mexico and then to the United States. The Trump administration is ending medical research by government scientists using human fetal tissue, a victory for abortion foes. At least one university's government funding will be terminated, effective immediately, although officials suggested that other research may allowed to continue under intense scrutiny. The policy change will not affect privately funded research that used human fetal tissue. Ending the use of fetal tissue by the government is a victory for anti-abortion activists, part of President Donald Trump's political base, as well as for his Vice President, Mike Pence, who has called the sale and use of fetal tissue 'horrific.'

John Kennedy said Wednesday.(Snip)Kennedy, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called Nadler's actions "wicked crazy" and "wicked abusive," and questioned whether the subpoenas have any "legitimate" legislative purpose. Kennedy said when the White House or DOJ don't produce the documents, Democrats make "apocalyptic" claims about Trump undermining the Constitution.

RUSH: Speaking of Hillary Clinton, folks, we had this piece yesterday from the Federalist by Mr. H. A. Goodman, and it was one of those pieces that you read it, and you say, “Yeah, yeah.” You know it all, but you get kind of frustrated that you didn’t think of it all yourself. His point basically was (without rehashing the whole thing) that every bit of everything we know or think we know--every news item, every little bit of information that fed this narrative the past two years or three now, that Trump colluded with Russia--came not from American intelligence, not from British intelligence. It didn’t come from FBI intelligence.

Trump said he wasn't calling Markle nasty, but rather was just surprised to hear her comments about him, including her assertion that if he became president it would force Americans to relocate to Canada. "I wasn’t referring to 'she’s nasty.' I said she was nasty about me. And essentially I didn’t know she was nasty about me," Trump told Morgan in the interview, set to air on Wednesday.

Twenty states and Washington DC allow same-day registration now. Sixteen and 17 year olds would be automatically pre-registered.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation reportedly hired prostitutes for staff, donors, and guests at official functions. The Daily Mail broke the story in May, but the scandal has apparently been brewing for months, as the U.K.’s Department of International Development came under fire in January for donating £132 million of aid money to the group during investigations of sexual misconduct into the notorious abortion giant. Internal documents related to the case reveal repeated claims of sexual harassment, bullying, abusive conduct, and intimidation of whistleblowers — for example, the transmission of a pornographic video to a female executive in order to terrify her into silence. Pelosi, who fears political disaster if impeachment proceedings are launched without broad public support, argued that it would be better to see Trump defeated in the next election and then criminally prosecuted as a private citizen.

Soon, John Dean will be the Democratic House Judiciary Committee’s opening witness in the majority’s quest to keep the Mueller report at the forefront of the national consciousness. As a former member of President Nixon’s White House staff, Dean has become a mainstream media darling, who is frequently trotted out to assert that some supposed Republican scandal is “worse than Watergate.” He’s hardly on the inside of anything Republican today, but he certainly knows about Watergate, because he played such a central part throughout the scandal’s unfolding. While Dean’s memorable 1973 appearance before the Senate Watergate Committee was both a dramatic performance and devastating to President Nixon, the deviousness
