Pope Francis finally approved the changes he has long wanted to implement to the Lord's Prayer by replacing "lead us not into temptation" with "do not let us fall into temptation," reports UCatholic. (Video) "On May 22nd during the General Assembly of the Episcopal Conference of Italy, President Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti announced the approval of a third edition of the Messale Romano," reports the outlet. The revised translation will include changes to the Lord’s Prayer and Gloria. The Lord’s Prayer will change from 'and lead us not into temptation' to 'do not let us fall into temptation.'"Pope Francis first spoke of his desire to update

Wow. It takes an act of Congress to change a few words? How about doing away with the hand shaking sign of peace, the hand raising and hand holding, and the kneeling.... I might come back

Of all the issues facing the Church and the world, they focus on tweaking prayers. (Insert eye-rolling emoji here.)

Well, the first draft had something about global warming and not building walls, so maybe we should be happy for this "revision."

Where I live in Flemish Belgium, the Lord's prayer has already undergone a recent revision. Flemish Dutch and Holland Dutch are slightly different, about like British and American English, so the way the Flemish say it was changed about a year ago to match the Holland version. Instead of "leid ons niet in bekoring" (lead us not into temptation) we now say "leid ons niet in beproeving" (beproeving means 'testing' or 'trying'). Not so different from these proposed changes.

How was it written in the New Testament Greek language? Taking into account that New Testament Greek is a bit different than current Greek.

What?! ...Delusions of grandeur?
The Lord's Prayer as spoken by Jesus is our example for prayer. Why would anyone presume to make any change?

Look for the Lord’s Prayer online in Syriac/Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke. It’s hauntingly beautiful.

Pray as though you're talking to God. First, give praise. Second, thank Him. Third, repentence. Fourth, ask a favor. Fifth, make a commitment. Those are the elements of effective prayer, per Nehemiah.

He's got a lot of chutzpah, changing the words of Christ. Well, he's changed the Catholic's church's stance on quite a few things, so why not?
I'll not be standing too close to Pope Francis anytime soon, so I'll not be dodging lightening.
I'll stick with the words the Lord used, that's safe and obedient.

I heard they were going to also change wording to accommodate KFC so it would be "give us this day our daily CHICKEN" but they thought better of it for fear of losing the Wonder Bread account."
Nobody changes the Lord's words.

Revelation 22:18-19
"I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book."
Go ahead Pope Francis change the words of God. You already think you're smarter than God.

Even simpler than #9 "formula," just talk to Daddy. He doesn't get hung up on the words we say and the "specific" order we say them in. Really! I promise He's not so hard up as most of us think!

The prayer as taught by Jesus is correct and should not be changed. God tempts no one; however, “God could allow the devil to tempt us, as Jesus was led into temptation by the Spirit (Matthew 4:1) but we pray that our Father would guard and keep us from the evil one.”

Hey Pope, you might need to keep going with your edits / rewrites.
"For I testify unto every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. I agree with #1 - the handshake of peace really irks me. Even most Protestant churches have adopted this garbage. Great way to spread germs.

Jesus gave these words as an example when his disciples said, ''Teach us to pray.'' So, some latter day me pope assumes the title of editor of Holy Writ. Jesus did not choose to reply to this alteration. Yet. His answer remains to be seen, so stay tuned. Shouldn't it be more correctly titled The Disciples Prayer. Just sayin'.

Makes no difference about how someone else once prayed. What is important is your own personal relationship with God. You talk, He listens. Friend God, He friends you back.

The handshake business was one of the reasons I stopped going to church. I don't go to church to socialize. My daddy was a devout Catholic and went every Sunday. He just wouldn't shake hands with anyone. My aunt and her friends would go and they'd hug and kiss each other on the cheek. Takes all kinds I guess but the church lost me years ago. I had a big problem with their attitude on birth control pills.

I shall continue to recite The Lord's Prayer as I was taught by my mother and the good nuns.
I have every confidence that the Lord will hear my prayer albeit unchanged.
The Pope actually stresses about a few words to an ancient prayer?
Geesh!

The church I belong to has long maintained the correct translation to be " suffer us not to be led into temptation", stressing the fact that God does not lead towards temptation, bur rather away from being tempted.

Sixteen years of study for this? The new words still imply that God is being asked not to allow us to fall into temptation. Why can't they come up with something that makes the individual responsible for his actions?

Did any of you actually read the article? The revised translation makes complete sense. The pope (who I dislike intensely for his sticking his nose into politics) is not changing the prayer, just going back to a more precise translation.

Yeah, when the Pope changes Jesus' original Aramaic prayer, I'll get upset. Tweaking a translation of a translation in order to get as close as possible to the original does not set my hair on fire.
Besides, is it more likely Jesus taught us to pray that our Father would not tempt us with evil things . . . or to pray that our Father would keep us from falling prey to those evil things?
Don’t let your papal hate cloud your critical thinking skills.

It is known as the "Model Prayer" and Jesus Himself taught us how to direct our prayers to the Father through Him. Jesus is our Intercessor, not some liberation theology fraud in a Fish Hat sitting in Rome. Contrary to popular belief, Jesus spoke Aramaic, Hebrew, and possibly Latin and Greek, but definitely not Italian. Here's His original statement in Aramaic:
Abwoon d’bvashmayo, nethqadash shmok. Te-the malkutokh. Nehwé
tseby o-nokh, aykano d’bvash’mayo of -ba’r‘o. Habv lan lahma d’sunqonan
yow-mano, Washboqlan hawbén w’kh-t’hén, aykano dof h’nan shba-qn l’hayobén. W’lo
tahlan l’nesyun’eh, elo patson men bisho. Metol d’dilok hi malkutokh, w’haylo,
w’teshbuh-to lo‘alam ‘o-l’min.
Amén.

I'm sorry, I thought not falling into temptation is OUR job. Sometimes the Lord allows us to be lead to temptation to test, to teach, to humble us and to make us seek His help; things that are quite risky that we still would rather avoid--if He wills it. I'm with #28, Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, because I'll never speak Aramaic, but am learning the Latin Mass.

Until such an instruction comes across the official communications channels of the Church, it's not real. Neither Daily Wire, nor the "UCatholic" that they cite as the source, is any part of that.
I'll withhold reaction to the change until it's real. Which I expect to be about the time that 'sex changes' become real.
