Sparks and bits of flaming woodwork are still cascading from the remnants of the 12th-century roof. The smell instantly sears the back of your throat like a dose of smelling salts and my feet are soaked. The ancient black and white tiles leading up the aisle are under a gently-flowing river of hose water from the fire crews pumping what seems like much of the River Seine from their elevated platforms. Yet I can faithfully report that the Cathedral of Notre Dame is not entirely destroyed. Because I am standing inside it – alongside the French prime minister. (Photos/Videos) In

How did this happen? When did it become OK for one of the two major political parties in America to attack a young black woman, who works for an orthodox Jew, as a fascistic fan of Adolf Hitler after she was invited to testify before Congress? When did it become OK for the representatives of the same party openly to label Israel, our closest friend in the Middle East, an “evil” state which has “hypnotized the West,” then libel their fellow representatives of having “dual loyalties” because they are Jewish, or to intimate that Israel simply shouldn’t exist? And when

Bernie Sanders took the stage at a fiery Fox News town hall in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Monday, and sparks flew almost immediately, as Sanders defiantly refused to explain why he would not voluntarily pay the massive new 52-percent "wealth tax" that he advocated imposing on the nation´s richest individuals."We´ll get through this together," Sanders said at one point, as tensions flared. Sanders later admitted outright that "you´re going to pay more in taxes" if he became president. There are two reasons the political media establishment is growing increasingly hostile towards Attorney General William Barr: First, he serves under President Donald Trump. Second, he is not only the messenger of the demise of the Russiagate conspiracy theory that the Deep State and its aiders, abettors, and enablers in the political media establishment worked so hard to perpetuate, but he could also be the source of the demise of the establishment itself, if he ends up exposing their whole sordid affair. Should Barr conduct a thorough investigation of the Russiagate investigators, and the associated leakers and colluders,

Venezuela sold about $400 million in gold despite a growing international push to freeze the country’s assets, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. The amount, which would equal almost 9 tons, was reflected by a drop in the bank’s total reserves, which fell to $8.6 billion on April 12, according to data provided by the central bank. About $5.1 billion of that is gold. A central bank press official didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on the sale Monday. The sale could mean President Nicolas Maduro has found a way to skirt the economic blockade.

China is the world´s largest oil importer and Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. For those two reasons alone, the economic relationship between our nations will inevitably grow. In fact, we hope for even more. There are many areas besides oil in which we can mutually benefit from trade and cooperation in the future. For that relationship to blossom, however, Venezuela has to change and abandon a model of governance that’s ruined us economically. The U.S.-Mexican border is essentially wide open. Why? Because there is a general expectation in Mexico and Latin America that American immigration law is unenforced. Or it is so bizarre that simple illegal entry almost always ensures temporary legal residence, pending an asylum hearing. A scheduled asylum hearing, in turn, is seen by border crossers as a mere formality to be ignored. The popular perception on the border, then, is to stick one foot illegally onto U.S. soil, and, presto, win permanent residence for you and any family members who wish to follow.

A redacted version of the report by special counsel Robert Mueller is expected to be released to Congress and to the public by the Justice Department a day before the Easter holiday weekend, a department official said Monday. But the release of anything less than the full report will not placate congressional Democrats, who want to see all of it. The report, totaling more than 300 pages, details Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and the question of whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russian agents in that meddling.

President Donald Trump’s proposal to ship immigration detainees to so-called sanctuary cities –which are Democrat strongholds— is a political masterstroke, if the Left’s wounded animal-like howling is any indication. He led Sanders, 27 percent to 17 percent, in February before dropping to 26 percent in March, tying

Rep. Ilhan Omar continues to be an embarrassment and a disgrace for me and other American Muslims with her outrageous, ignorant, anti-Semitic and now anti-American comments. And while Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, holds herself out as a proud Muslim, she repeatedly projects a distorted and patently Islamist interpretation of Islam – a religion that in reality stands for the values of justice, peace and ethical conduct.Sadly, Omar gives millions of Americans a false impression of what Islam is and what we Muslims believe and stand for.

The singer Cher (no last name) promised to leave this country, even this planet, if Donald J. Trump (R) became President of the United States. Well, Trump is president and Cher is still living in this country. And yes, Los Angeles, California and its wealthy liberal suburbs of Beverly Hills and Malibu, where Cher lives in huuuuuge homes (she owns several here and there) surrounded by gates and walls and doormen and guards, utilizing the hi tech security that is part of the USA. What, you expected a lefty liberal to keep a promise of sacrifice? But President Trump

Here´s something to give the Trump-hating left some heartburn, from Axios: The Trump campaign told the AP on Sunday that it raised more than $30 million in the first quarter of 2019, bringing its total cash on hand to $40.8 million. Why it matters: The AP notes that this is "an unprecedented war chest for an incumbent president this early in a campaign," especially with the Republican National Committee also raising $45.8 million in the first quarter — bringing the pro-Trump effort´s total cash

The Catholic bishops of Massachusetts have released a statement condemning proposed bills in the state legislature that would expand access to abortion and eliminate requiring medical care for an infant who survives abortion. Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston, joined with the bishops of Springfield, Worcester, and Fall River in denouncing the two bills as “an egregious attack on human life.”

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who was arrested last week, tried to use the Ecuadorian Embassy in London as a “centre for spying,” Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno told the Guardian on Monday. “Any attempt to destabilize is a reprehensible act for Ecuador, because we are a sovereign nation and respectful of the politics of each country,” Moreno told the Guardian by email.

When Chief Justice John Roberts pompously admonished President Trump last year, making the preposterous claim that we “do not have Obama or Trump judges,” Carlton W. Reeves evidently failed to get the memo. This Obama appointee to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi is a textbook example of a partisan jurist who ignores the law and the will of voters as expressed through their elected representatives. Indeed, Judge Reeves has now escalated his activism by attacking the President and comparing him to a long line of white supremacist Democrats and their partners in the KKK.

Attorney General William Barr has promised to release a redacted version of the Mueller report this week. It will of course consume the political conversation for days, but even now it is clear that, as much as the report might be talked about, it will not settle the main arguments that have raged about the Trump-Russia affair for more than two years. Here are five debates that won´t be resolved, no matter how much of the report Barr makes public: 1. Collusion. On the face of it, Barr´s summary of Mueller´s conclusion could not be clearer:

After eight years of reckless expansion of the federal workforce under Barack Obama, Donald Trump vowed to downsize the wildly growing bureaucracy of Washington. In 2016, he promised to “cut so much your head will spin.” However, during the first two years of his presidency, there has been no significant effort to reduce the bloated federal payrolls. In fact, the federal government is the largest employer in the nation. Walmart, which has a presence in communities of all shapes and sizes, is the largest private employer in the nation with 1.5 million workers. Yet the number of Americans who rely

Hillary Clinton loyalists fed the FBI’s upper echelon an assortment of anti-Donald Trump criminal accusations during the 2016 campaign and his presidency, according to a string of interview transcripts released in recent weeks. James A. Baker, former FBI general counsel who participated on the receiving end, testified that the situation was “horrible” and “highly unusual.” At least 10 of Mrs. Clinton’s supporters directly or via middlemen told the bureau tales about Russia-Trump conspiracies. It appears to be an unprecedented effort by a presidential campaign and the party in power to count

It is fun to watch the left react to Trump’s suggestion that he might send migrants and asylum seekers to “sanctuary cities,” but their outrage may conceal the panic of the political fallout if Trump goes through with it, as he should. Anyone remember the Mariel Boatlift in 1980? That’s when Fidel Castro declared that anyone who wanted to emigrate to the United States was free to do so within a narrow window of time. Within days, 125,000 Cubans were en route to the U.S. Just where did that rickety fleet come from on such short notice?

“There are no second acts in American lives.” The line is F. Scott Fitzgerald’s and it is overused and demonstrably false as Tiger Woods proved on Sunday at the Masters. Fitzgerald probably would not appreciate the way his famous line has been turned into a cliché. He likely had intended it as one character’s brooding thoughts in a novel he never completed. Perhaps he had it mind for that character to experience a second act, disproving the gloomy aphorism. Maybe he was even imagining something like the resurrection of Tiger Woods in the Masters on Sunday.

The beginning of Media Matters for America´s "About" section reads thus: Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media. In reality, its mission is to obsess over and respond with histrionics to everything Fox News does. MMFA is probably FNC´s most loyal viewer. The site was founded by David Brock, a one-time conservative turned left-wing operative, so it has a real "crazy ex-girlfriend" feel to it. Words have actual, distinct meanings. Somehow accepting this wisdom that is thousands of years old is something of a struggle in this, the 21st century. (Snip)The real danger in regard to Democrats accusing Republicans like Rep. Dan Crenshaw and Donald Trump, and outlets like the New York Post, of incitement to violence is that the charge is one of very few that can be used to erase First Amendment free speech protections. It’s no accident that this is the word being used. But it is an absurd accusation.

Valerie Jarrett, a top adviser to former President Barack Obama, published a book that ranks dismally on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble, but was placed on The New York Times Best Seller list. Anomalies around the book’s sales figures in industry databases have some in the book business questioning whether Jarrett, who’s rumored to have received a million-dollar-plus advance, paid a company to game the numbers. Her book, which was published April 2, is number 1,030 on Amazon’s list of top sellers and has only three reviews on the site. It similarly ranks 1,244 on Barnes and Noble

My college-age son called me recently and asked me about “kratom,” saying that it was all over campus and even some of his friends were trying it. Thankfully, I got the phone call asking about what it was rather than him just hopping on the bandwagon of trying the latest trend. “What is it?” he asked. And for once, I had to admit, that although I had heard of it, I didn’t know much else about it. This concerned me on many levels. How is there a “wellness” product being promoted and sold
