Paris’ centuries-old Norte Dame Cathedral is on fire, according to video footage tweeted Monday afternoon. The city’s deputy mayor, Emmanuel Gregoire, confirmed the blaze on Twitter, warning Parisians to avoid the area. [Tweet] It’s not yet clear what started the blaze, or how extensive the damage will be—but footage shows flames engulfing the French Gothic cathedral’s spire, and quickly spreading to other parts of the building. Sixteen copper statues were removed from the Cathedral Thursday as part of restoration efforts. Officials say the blaze may be linked to the restoration. Paris is currently flush with tourists ahead of Holy Week.

It is Holy Week.
Easter Sunday is the Highest Holy Day in the Catholic/Christian Faith.
Hate Crime or accident involving the restoration process?
My money is on the haters.

Sad. Glad I have seen it. Sorry that Quasimodo has lost his home.

There was a deliberately-set fire at St. Sulpice (2nd largest cathedral in Paris) last month.

In the very early 1970s, the first time (of many) that we visited Notre Dame de Paris, my then girlfriend (now wife) and I, hitchhiking around Europe, walked into the cathedral one afternoon.
We were looking with wonder at the beautiful interior, and then someone began to practice with the organ. The cathedral was essentially empty, no services going on, but the organ practice was magnificent. We sat down and just reveled in the magnificent, beautiful sounds which seemed to penetrate right through you, and come from all directions. We stayed until it ended, about half an hour. A wonderful memory, even almost 50 years later.
A very sad day.
And I wonder, where are the jihadis? That whole upper roof section, which we have walked through a portion, is all ancient oak timbers. A jihadi workman up there could slip over to a corner and start a fire. Perhaps just an accident, but the jihadis are ALWAYS looking for a way to harm Christians and Christianity.

Where are the firefighters, planes that could help douse the fire? Are they going to let the entire cathedral just burn down? As usual, nothing ever moves too swiftly in French brains! This cathedral was a treasure for the entire world.
Yes, my money is also on some Muslim thug who would have had an easy time setting something on fire. Consider all the chemicals that are used when something has to be restored. AND it just takes place during Holy Week! Too much of a coincidence!

I´m willing to withhold jumping to conclusions right now, but recent history with regard to the deliberately-set fire at St. Sulpice last month and the vandalism/small fire at St. Denis is stretching my patience.

Fox News reported that the fire was deliberately set. I don´t know how true this is, but if jihadists have declared war on Christianity by burning our churches, they WILL regret the decision!!!

Its construction began decades before the signing of the Magna Carta. Regardless of the fire´s cause, I predict stories of chaos and incompetence in the coming days and weeks. It´s in a major city, and it´s immediately adjacent to the Seine. It seemed to burn largely unimpeded for a couple of hours.
I´m glad I got to see it a couple of times, and I´m sickened by its loss.

Not liking Shepard Smith much I put on CNN.This from CNN,........"it was built in the 1100´s" ( they believe their audience does not understand what years a particular century refers to, Easter Sunday is the "rebirth " of Jesus, ( No dummies ,it´s the resurrection, I ´m Jewish and I know that), Friday through Sunday is a " 3 day festival". Shepard Smith, bad as he is , and he IS, is genius compared to the utterly brain dead commentators on CNN.

I couldn´t watch/listen to Shepherd Smith waxing poetic about his pictures in front of the cathedral...the lovely afternoon spent there followed by chocolate and banana crepes at a small cafe nearby. Cue Jaques Brel, Shep, and cry my a river. Just the news please, not your overwrought memoir.

How about an air strike on the Mosque in Istanbul if it was a jihadi arson?

Fire fighting seems to be totally incompetent, too. I hope I am wrong about that.

I was just there a few months ago—didn’t know it would be the last time. I am sickened and filled with disbelief.
