Assange arrested in London

A US Embassy employee in Ukraine has died in a suspected murder near railroad tracks in a park, police said. The American woman, who was not identified, was discovered unconscious Wednesday with a head injury, wearing running gear and headphones near a railway that passes through a park in Kiev, police said. The woman, who had her US embassy ID badge on her person, was brought to the hospital, where she later died, authorities said.

Community health advocates and some aldermen called Tuesday for creation of a crisis response team that excludes police officers to help people experiencing mental health emergencies. “Currently, the city’s response to crises has been done and managed exclusively by the city’s police department,” said Arturo Carrillo, lead organizer for the Collaborative for Community Wellness, a citywide coalition of community groups. “As a result, the largest mental health provider in this city and this country is Cook County Jail.” Instead, Carrillo, a licensed social worker, said the crisis response team would be staffed by paramedics and social workers and operated by the Chicago Department of Public Health.

House Republicans are pushing to seal the deal on a host of policies to withdraw vital American industries from China in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The GOP-chartered House China Task Force issued a report on Wednesday that calls in part for Congress to enact the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act's bevy of policies. Those policies, many of which have already passed the House, aim at reducing U.S. supply chain dependency on the Chinese Communist regime, which the report labeled a risk to American safety and prosperity. The city of Madison collected 10,813 absentee ballots from local residents at this weekend’s Democracy in the Park event, which state Republicans tried to halt. Despite a threat of legal action from the state GOP if the event were to take place, the Madison City Clerk’s Office forged ahead, arguing Republicans had no legal support for allegations the event constituted an “illegal collection of ballots” that “falls outside lawful categories.”

Bankrupt gunmaker Remington Outdoor will split up its business and sell the pieces to seven different buyers following a bankruptcy auction, court records show. The biggest sale will go to Minnesota-based Vista Outdoor, which said it will pay $81.4 million for Remington’s brand and trademarks along with parts of its ammo and accessories business including an Arkansas ammunition factory. Other buyers include outdoor-gear retailer Sportsman’s Warehouse, which will acquire the Tapco brand of gun parts and accessories, and Nevada-based gunmaker Franklin Armory, which is snapping up Remington’s Bushmaster rifle brand, records show

White House Coronavirus Task Force advisers are openly disagreeing with each other, sending mixed messages about the pandemic. Both Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, and Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in recent days, have criticized Dr. Scott Atlas, a conservative neuroradiologist from Stanford who has become the top adviser to President Trump on the coronavirus. "Everything he says is false," Redfield said about Atlas during a phone call made in public on a commercial flight and overheard by NBC News.

A video emerged on Friday of Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden calling soldiers “stupid bastards” and a “dull bunch” during a speech overseas to U.S. soldiers while he was serving as vice president in the Obama administration. “I have incredibly good judgment,” Biden said. “One, I married Jill, and two, I appointed Johnson to the academy. I just want you to know that. Clap for that, you stupid bastards.”

On Sept. 15 the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse received multiple hate/bias incident reports over discriminatory phrases written in chalk around the university. The Racquet Press spoke with three UWL students, who all are choosing to remain anonymous due to concerns with their on-campus job positions. “This incident felt like an attack on my identity and presence on campus,” said the first anonymous student. The attack they referenced were messages written in chalk throughout parts of the UWL campus. Some of the messages written stated, “UWL college republicans” “UWL backs the blue”

President Trump has said the health of the American people is his primary concern when considering new FDA guidelines on a vaccine. On Wednesday, the President announced the White House may not approve tougher guidelines on the emergency use authorization of a coronavirus vaccine. According to reports, the FDA was gearing up to announce the stricter standards ahead of the election. As part of the new guidelines, manufacturers seeking authorization would have to follow trial participants for at least two months after a second vaccine shot.
