Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Huffman broke her silence this afternoon for the first time since her March 12 arrest in the “Operation Varsity Blues” college cheating scandal to acknowledge she “betrayed” her oldest daughter and will shoulder that shame for the rest of her life. “I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions,” the Emmy Award-winning star of the TV series “Desperate Housewives” said in a statement. “I am ashamed of the pain

I would not put her in jail for a guilty plea like this one. She has been humiliated enough. Maybe some community service at an abortion clinic or organizing a riot for some liberal clause will work. She has been branded as a cheat and will never be looked at in the same way again--except by liberals.

I believe she´s sorry she got caught . She lives in a closed society where there are ( most of the time) no consequences for bad behavior. Jail time .

Felicity Huffman is obviously, in word and demeanor, contrite. And for reasons known only to her and her husband, she is taking the full responsibility for this. I would show her some mercy. I don’t believe it’s an act.
Conversely, Lori whatshername is acting the fool, giving autographs, attempting to breeze through this with about as much common decency as her spoiled younger daughter Olivia. I would throw the book at her.
I would be a terrible biased juror.

No, not humiliated. All publicity is good publicity out here. She´ll whip up some bogus tears, hire some starving screenwriter to pen her stupid book, hit all the dumbbell daytime slobber shows and that´ll be that.
Score. Back in business, maybe better than before. I figure most of us had never heard of her until this crappy little caper.
She should do at least the same time in the can the rest of us would. I would say more, but that wouldn´t be "fair."

On top of the legal penalty, some of these parents have the humiliation of having paid FAR more than others did to get their kid into college.

My gut tells me it´s more than that, #2. I think this has been a real-life wakeup call for her, and I´m pleased she´s apparently behaving with humility, dignity and grace.

Felicity Huffman has always been a low-key person. An actor, not a celebrity type. I don’t feel the same about her as I do Lori the forever ingenue.

Even if the daughter did know, she obviously would have no control over what her mother did. I think Huffman seems genuinely sorry (taking into consideration she is an actor) but her words rang true. I wouldn´t send her to prison. I´d give her 90 days in jail and up the fine to a million or so. She can afford it. On the other one, Loughlin, she needs prison. She needs the orange jumpsuit for no less than a year. What an arrogant, foolish woman.

#10 She could have not attended if she knew and she needs to withdraw now. All degrees granted to the cheats need to be rescinded.

Even if it´s Club Fed jail time is something people remember & don´t want to repeat.
Also serves as a lesson to others.
Always a good thing.

And pay a fine, and get 3 hours community service at the local animal shelter, or something similar.
Rich folks like her are not going to actually wind up in jail, unfortunately.

Her husband is William H. Macy. Word on the street is that the only reason it’s her alone, is that he was never caught on tape with any specifics, and she was. But, many feel he was in on it. But, I haven’t heard word one from him. So, he’s going to let her take the rap alone? I’m sure their lawyers told them to keep quiet, but it all seems pretty sleazy to me.

She betrayed *her daughter*? That´s who she sees as the main victim here? What about the unknown student whose place she STOLE in order to benefit her own child?

One of the major theme plots in Wm H Macy´s netflix show Shameless in season 1 dealt with college exam cheating. In depth. The arrogance of these people knows no bounds.
If he won´t step up they should throw the book at her!

20 years ago, at a Sundance Film Festival, my then chubby 10 year old daughter and her friend encountered William H Macy. They were desperate for a celebrity autograph. He gave them one, sat with them for pictures, taught them to not look directly into the camera, and was so kind. I will always think of him as a nice man. I know he is not the one on trial. Felicity seems truly remorseful. Justice with mercy.

Sorry folks but sorry is not enough, it´s called tax evasion. Martha Stewart went to prison for merely getting some insider info. This is much more serious, this is conspiracy to defraud the government and the rest of us who are writing checks this month. The woman travels in circles where this is no big deal. Cheating to get your child into a school? Do you really think that the Hollywood crowd is truly going to turn their backs on her for that? Not likely. This is chump change in the fantasyland they all live in. These are barely crimes on their fuzzy radar screens.
As far as he daughter knowing. Oh please. Give me a break. We know, she knew. But the adult is the one who was worried about her image so I´ll give the kid a break but please don´t tell me your kid was that stupid. I mean, I know she couldn´t get into the college of your choice, but kids are just not THAT stupid.

Why only focus on these two women ? Seems odd.
Felicity at least seems embarrassed and humiliated. Lori looks like she paid the judge off happy.

She´s sorry about her betrayal and begs forgiveness??? Really? I smell a plea bargain with a $200 fine and maybe a half hour of community service.

I vote for prison time - denial of liberty for some period (multiple months, at least) is the only true punishment. Fines and community service are mere hand slaps. Having to ask for TP at the front desk gets your attention. Plus the minor hazing from the less advantaged prisoners who earned their way into Club Fed and resent the privileged who bought their way in is educational.

I vote for fair and complete application of the law and any prescribed penalties. If people who commit these types of crimes normally get jail time, she should as well. If they don´t, she shouldn´t. Any fines should be hefty because she can afford it and a small fine sends the wrong message to wealthy people who shrug off small fines.
As to the kids, were they really ignorant? Her daughter got points she didn´t deserve on a SAT test assigned by the person who corrected it. It´s believable that her daughter just didn´t know. However, the school should rescind the falsified admission.
