Duffy moves to codify English proficiency
rules for truckers

EXCLUSIVE — The Transportation Department has proposed a new rule to codify English-language proficiency requirements for American truckers, as Secretary Sean Duffy looks to ensure that current language safety standards last beyond the Trump administration. Under Duffy, the Trump administration has cracked down on making sure big-rig drivers are proficient in English before they hit the road and have to operate while reading English road signs. The administration’s stricter enforcement ramped up after several high-profile fatal crashes, including one on a Florida interstate, involved non-English proficient truckers driving in violation of nearby English road signs. In April 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring truck drivers to speak English.

FTA: "Duffy rescinded an Obama-era policy that loosened English proficiency restrictions by directing road inspectors not to place non-English speaking drivers out of service automatically, but instead to enable them to give non-English speaking drivers a citation." A CITATION for not knowing how to read English road signs?

What responsibility do the owners of the trucks/rigs/trailers/freight have? Forfeiture? Civil/criminal liability? Sky-high insurance rates? Loss of business licenses? All roads lead to weigh stations. ;-)

WASHINGTON — A federal appeals court blocked further construction of President Trump’s planned White House ballroom Friday, ruling that the massive project must first receive congressional approval. A divided panel of DC circuit judges determined that “Congress has exclusive authority to regulate the construction and demolition of White House structures.” “We are aware of no instance in American history in which a President unilaterally and using privately collected funds demolished substantial portions of the White House that Congress authorized to be built and American taxpayers paid for. Until now,” wrote judges Patricia Millet and Bradley Garcia in their majority opinion. “The Constitution’s Property Clause vests Congress with plenary control

The Democratic establishment could be facing a seismic political reckoning not seen since MAGA’s historic overhaul of the Republican Party. A progressive flavor of Democratic candidates has swept their establishment opponents this election cycle, most recently with Abdul El-Sayed’s primary win in Michigan against Rep. Haley Stevens. Sayed’s upset victory is just the latest in a string of progressive primary wins, many of which are associated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Sayed is not a DSA-endorsed candidate himself, but his anti-establishment appeal and progressive campaign promises echo several DSA candidates who have enjoyed political success. Much like MAGA’s successful takeover of the Republican Party just a decade ago,

This is turning out to be quite the year for the Democrat Party to trot out their oddest oddballs and run them for office. Michigan might have the highest concentration of freaky Dem candidates in 2026, but the seemingly sane state of Tennessee is in the running for that honor, too, because of one man: Justin Pearson. On his best day, this guy exudes the weirdo aura of ten standard Democrats. On his worst day, he dances like an epileptic James Brown and talks like a revivalist preacher, usually on the floor of the Tennessee legislature. It's performative politics at its worst. Eric Swalwell leveraged his past sexual relationship with Katie Miller, wife of top Trump official Stephen Miller, to keep potentially embarrassing FBI files behind lock and key, a shocking new report revealed Thursday. The news that the disgraced former Democratic Congressman from California — who resigned after several women claimed sexual assault and rape — once dated the now-wife of a top conservative leader stunned Washington. “I was an intern working on Capitol Hill,” Miller posted on X about the situation. Then Katie Waldman worked as both an intern and communications director on Capitol Hill in her 20s before moving to the executive branch in 2017. The relationship with Swalwell was before

A resurfaced clip from a 2020 documentary shows Michigan Democratic Senate primary winner Abdul El-Sayed saying he “hates Mackinac so much” while visiting the island during his 2018 campaign for governor. He lost that bid before aiming to represent the state at the federal level. The footage comes from the documentary “How To Fix A Primary,” which followed El-Sayed’s unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign. In the scene, El-Sayed can be seen walking toward the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan as one of the island's iconic horse-drawn carriages pass by. “I hate Mackinac so much,” El-Sayed says in the video. He then references the island’s being the governor’s official summer residence,

Hundreds of Haitian immigrants who recently lost Temporary Protected Status (TPS) have been ordered to report to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices in the Springfield, Ohio, region. Many of them have left wearing ankle monitors, signaling the beginning of a deportation crackdown for the 350,000 Haitians who are no longer authorized to be in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began sending "call-in" letters to Haitian nationals in late July, shortly after the Haitian TPS program was revoked following a US Supreme Court decision, according to the Haitian Times. TPS for Haitians officially ended on July 27.

The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved the U.S.’ first flu shot that uses mRNA technology: mFlusiva, from drugmaker Moderna. The FDA granted approval for two age groups, adults 50 to 65 and adults 65 and up, on the condition that Moderna run an additional clinical trial in the older group, the company said in a release. In a late-stage trial, mFlusiva was found to be about 27% more effective than a standard flu shot. Many scientists and public health experts have touted the idea of an mRNA-based flu vaccine, which uses the same messenger RNA platform as the Covid vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer.

On the heels of President Donald Trump's Tuesday fundraiser in Los Angeles, and with the November midterms less than 100 days away, Washington Republicans hold a commanding financial edge over Washington Democrats that could prove decisive in key races for control of Congress. The Republican National Committee reported more than $128 million in cash on hand at the end of June with no debt, while the Democratic National Committee had about $16 million in cash and roughly $18.5 million in debt, leaving it in the red.
