Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for US Senate in Maine, is suspending his campaign following a sexual assault allegation.
Platner announced his decision in a video posted to social media on Wednesday evening.
The oyster farmer and marine veteran – whose populist platform packed town halls, raised millions early in the race and built enough momentum to force his primary challenger, Governor Janet Mills, to suspend her bid – has been dogged by controversy since entering the Senate contest last year.

California may have the fourth-largest economy in the world, but even within that state, rising through the political ranks, the scrutiny a candidate gets is not remotely comparable to what a candidate for president is subjected to.
State politics tends to be insular, with political machines shepherding their favorites while destroying or buying off the people who challenge them. California's machine is, if anything, better tuned and more greased than most because there is so much money involved and so much back-scratching that outcomes can usually be pre-determined by choices made months or even years prior to their coming to fruition.
Gavin Newsom is a perfect example of this

Maine Democrats should blame themselves for choosing Graham Platner as their candidate despite all the obvious red flags, but there is no doubt that Platner's rise to prominence and his ability to raise gobs of money to present himself as a viable candidate is almost solely due to the fact that The New York Times put him on the map before he got into the race and worked mightily to maintain his viability despite the growing number of scandals.
I have written before about how the myth of Graham Platner's "working man" populism was created, despite the fact that he was a child of privilege, lied constantly about

U.S. forces launched another round of strikes against Iran in response to Tehran attacking commercial ships in or near the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command said Wednesday afternoon.
“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” CENTCOM said in an X post.
The latest salvo came hours after President Donald Trump said he may no longer be interested in even trying to reach a deal with Iran. Trump earlier Wednesday had declared the fledgling U.S. ceasefire agreement with Iran “over” in light of renewed hostilities in the strait, and said he may order more military attacks.

"They're scum," Donald Trump declared about the regime in Tehran, while speaking at the NATO summit in Turkey. Sometimes, people have to learn the truth the hard way. And the truth that Trump has learned over the last three months is this: You don't negotiate with terrorists. Terrorists do not negotiate in good faith, and forty-seven years of dealing with the Iranian mullahs and the IRGC have proven it every single time.
Trump declared the ceasefire "over" at the same time:

The U.S.-brokered interim ceasefire with Iran is now over. President Donald Trump made the declaration Wednesday, telling reporters at the NATO defence summit in Ankara, Turkey: “These are evil, sick people,” before describing Tehran’s negotiators as scum and a cancer that needs to be excised.
A clearly angry Trump further added he didn’t “want to deal with them any more” after launching overnight strikes on the totalitarian Islamic republic after it attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz., as Breitbart News reported.

Rasmussen’s latest numbers are looking up a bit for Republicans. Keep in mind that this is a likely voter poll:
The Democratic Party now leads Republicans by four points in the battle to control the House of Representatives.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that if the elections for Congress were held today, 46% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Democratic candidate, while 42% would vote for the Republican. Five percent (5%) say they would vote for some other candidate, while another eight percent (7%) are not sure. …

America's enemies have never feared our committee hearings; they fear the sound of American factories waking up.
A nation that builds its own medicine, chips, ships, steel, tools, trucks, and energy systems is harder to bully, starve, and much harder to beat.
The latest manufacturing numbers offer a reminder the country needed: the factory floor is still one of America's truest sources of power.
U.S. manufacturing slightly cooled in June, but the bigger story still holds. The Institute for Supply Management said its Manufacturing PMI registered 53.3 in June after May hit 94.0, the highest reading since May 2022. Readings above 50 show expansion, and June marked

Yesterday, Graham Platner denied allegations made by Jenny Racicot of rape, but then announced that he would take some time to mull over his options. At the time, Platner had already cancelled his upcoming events before the July 13 deadline to withdraw his nomination as the Democrat candidate for US Senate from Maine. His withdrawal from the race appeared imminent, so much so that Polymarket actually shut down the betting pool on it.
Well, it has been 24 hours since then, and ... all is quiet on the Totenkopf Front. Platner has lost almost every endorser in the race, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced

Now they turn on Nazi-tattooed alleged rapist Graham Platner?
After all these months of defending him and making excuses — knowing full well what a repugnant dirtbag he is?
Let’s be honest: At this late date, the accusation that Platner raped an ex-girlfriend should shock absolutely no one. And that it took so long for Dems to cut him off speaks volumes.
Indeed, the only reason they’re deserting him now is not that they’ve finally grown a moral spine; it’s that they fear his grotesque character won’t fly with normal voters.
Not only would a continued Platner campaign for Maine’s US Senate seat almost certainly fail; voters nationwide may now realize

It's on. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has launched a wave of new attacks on Iran, following the rogue nation's attacks on commercial CENTCOM reports:
U.S. Central Command forces have begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway. The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.
It's unclear so far just what targets in Iran were hit, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump has reacted to the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America by sounding the alarm about communism, which greatly upset Associated Press fact-checker Melissa Goldin on Thursday because, according to her, only card-carrying members of the Communist Party USA can be called communists.
Goldin cited two Trump quotes. The first was, “It’s the biggest threat to our country, including World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, September 11th.” The second was referring to Democrats as “hard core, godless communists.”
She also lamented, “But experts say
