Xavier Becerra Is No Moderate

Original Article

The recent implosion and resignation of Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., has done more than expose another Democrat’s hypocrisy regarding sexual harassment and assault allegations. Coming less than two months before California’s primary elections, Swalwell’s sudden journey from gubernatorial front-runner to ex-candidate jumbled up the field seeking to replace term-limited Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-French Laundry. Amid the chaos among Democrat candidates, former California Attorney General and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra has seen a surge in support. But a recent article featuring attacks on Becerra as a “moderate” shows the radical nature of California Democrats, where the left hand doesn’t know what the far-left hand is doing.

The Supreme Court decided Monday to let its recent ruling limiting a key part of the Voting Rights Act take effect early instead of holding it for a month, per tradition. The Supreme Court last week narrowed the scope of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act to bar race-based districts, ruling that Louisiana's map was unconstitutional and prompting the state to reschedule its upcoming House primaries while its lines are redrawn. Supporters of the Supreme Court ruling urged the court to allow it to take effect immediately so Louisiana has time to redraw the maps,

South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace claimed Monday that Congress’ sexual harassment slush fund allegedly paid for settlements for a handful of former lawmakers that equaled more than $300,000. Mace promised accountability for the victims, and the House paid out approximately $338,000 to settle the cases. One former lawmaker was targeted in sexual assault lawsuits three times and the House cumulatively paid out $115,000 to dismiss those cases. The House Oversight panel subpoenaed information detailing the government payouts after a March committee vote, seeking a full accounting of payouts made before the settlements ended in 2018, according to Politico.

Washington, D.C., judge on Monday apologized to the suspect who allegedly opened fire during the White House Correspondents' dinner last month for how he has been treated by authorities in jail. Cole Tomas Allen, a resident of Torrance, California, was placed under suicide watch at the D.C. jail because he allegedly told the FBI that he expected to die during the shooting. Suicide watch protocols mandated Allen remain on a 24-hour lockdown in a "safe cell," with no phone access to call or receive visits from anyone other than his legal team. Prosecutor Jocelyn Ballantine claimed that since Allen told investigators he did not expect to survive the alleged attack,

The Supreme Court recently handed down one of its most consequential voting rights decisions in decades, striking down Louisiana’s congressional map in a 6–3 ruling that significantly curtails the power of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The decision in Louisiana v. Callais, written by Justice Samuel Alito and joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, has already triggered a rush of political condemnation and legislative action across the country, with governors calling special sessions and primaries being suspended in the final stretch before the 2026 midterm elections.

In yet another major victory for election integrity warriors and government transparency, the Michigan Court of Claims just slammed the brakes on the Michigan Bureau of Elections’ blatant attempt to hide how voters actually cast their ballots. In an Opinion and Order Granting Summary Disposition to Plaintiff, Court of Claims Judge Christopher P. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani branded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as “cruel and inhumane” after about 200 anti-ICE agitators rioted outside a New York City hospital Saturday night where a criminal illegal alien with previous arrests was being held. Whistle-blowing, profanity-spewing rioters damaged several ICE vehicles and assaulted ICE officers, resulting in minor injuries, according to the Department of Homeland Security. “They [ICE] do nothing to serve in the interest of public safety, and I’ve said that even directly to the president,” the Communist NYC mayor told Gothamist reporter Liam Quigley on Sunday when asked about the melee.

Relations between the United States and Italy and between Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV have been delicate lately to say the least. So, the Trump administration is sending in the one man to the Vatican who can possibly help them recalibrate them this week: Marco Rubio. The State Department announced on Monday that the secretary of State will travel to Rome on Wednesday "to advance bilateral relations with Italy and the Vatican." "Secretary Rubio will meet with Holy See leadership to discuss the situation in the Middle East and mutual interests in the Western Hemisphere," the statement continued.

New Yorkers, you’ve been slacking — so the mayor wants to organize you. Mayor Zohran Mamdani isn’t happy that only 400 people showed up to last year’s Rent Guidelines Board hearings. In response, last Wednesday, he launched Organize NYC, a supposed volunteer effort to have New Yorkers participate in local government.Taken straight from the Democratic Socialists of America’s community-organizing playbook, Mamdani is calling it “a long-term initiative to bring mass public participation into the work of governing.” First stop: the RGB. The body with power to set rent adjustments for the city’s 1 million rent-stabilized units will hold four public hearings in June before voting on increases at its June 25 meeting.

"Rest assured that it's not just the Instagram post that leads somebody to get indicted," Blanche said on "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "The career FBI agents, the career Secret Service agents that investigated this case, didn't just look at the Instagram post and walk away," he added. Blanche declined to elaborate on the matter. "So I am not permitted to get into the details of what the grand jury heard or found," he said.

The United States on Monday kicked off an effort to “guide” stranded ships from the Iran-gripped Strait of Hormuz, as it tries to counter economic disruptions that outlasted the peak of fighting with no peace deal in sight. A day after U.S. President Donald Trump announced what he called “Project Freedom,” the Joint Maritime Information Center said Monday that the U.S. had set up an “enhanced security area” south of typical shipping routes and urged mariners to coordinate closely with Omani authorities “due to anticipated high traffic volume.” The strait sits between Iranian and Omani territory.

The Real Reason Why Barack Obama Condemned
the Supreme Court’s Racial Redistricting Ruling

Barack Obama is a real piece of work. Seriously, he has no shame. One week after the former president successfully gaslit a small majority of Virginians into voting for a redistricting initiative that got rid of the state’s two majority-minority congressional districts, he has the gall to condemn the Supreme Court’s ruling against the practice of redistricting along racial lines. He doesn’t really care about giving black voters better representation—he cares about the Democrats’ grasp for raw, naked political power, by any means necessary. While the Constitution generally prohibits sorting citizens based on race, lower courts have long interpreted the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as effectively mandating redistricting along racial lines.

If the title of this column seems to exaggerate the potential impact of last week’s Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, it’s probably because most political pundits have focused on its effect below the Mason-Dixon Line. But the majority-minority congressional districts that will need to be altered pursuant to the Court’s ruling are far more pervasive than most realize. Ballotpedia, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey, estimates that these racially gerrymandered districts account for 148 seats in the House of Representatives. This is about one third of the House’s 435 districts.
