DeSantis Dominates: Florida’s New Redistricting Masterclass

The redistricting fight for House of Representatives seats is on, across much of the fruited plain (except here in Alaska, where we only have one), and from Virginia to California, the race is on to jam as many red or blue districts as possible onto the map. In Florida, though, the fight is over, and the GOP in the Sunshine state has won the redistricting fight bigly. With his accustomed braggadocio, Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis, who may well be the best governor in the nation right now, signed a copy of the state's new district map

I hear that former DNC leader Debbie's district is no longer a liberal paradise.

UAE Coordinating With Israel on Iran War 2 replies

It's been little noticed by the media, but ever since the beginning of the Iran War, Arab countries have been quietly, but not secretly, coordinating with Israel. The UAE, for instance, has Israeli advisors on the ground who are helping with air defense, and an Iron Dome battery is based in the UAE. During the 12-Day War, several Arab countries shot down Iranian drones aimed at Israel. An Israeli air defense system deployed to the UAE was used to intercept an Iranian missile today, CNN reports. It was recently reported that Israel deployed at least one Iron Dome battery and dozens of IDF operators to the UAE

As RedState previously reported, the Los Angeles mayoral race has really heated up in recent weeks, thanks in large part to Spencer Pratt, the lone Republican candidate in the race, who is refusing to back down amid attacks from his opponents, who have sought to diminish him as merely a former reality show star who knows not of what he speaks. The problem with that attack is that his opponents, current L.A. Mayor Karen Bass (D) and L.A. City Council member Nithya Raman, a Democrat Socialist, are the ones living in a bubble, as Pratt pointed out in what some have called the best campaign ad they've ever seen.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The United Arab Emirates said Monday it came under attack by Iran for the first time since a fragile ceasefire took hold in early April. The attacks appeared to be in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy. The UAE Defense Ministry said Iran had launched four cruise missiles, with three shot down and one falling into the sea. Authorities in the eastern emirate of Fujairah said an Iranian drone sparked a fire at a key oil facility, wounding three Indian nationals.

The Supreme Court on Monday reinstated access to the chemical abortion drug mifepristone through telehealth, mail, and pharmacies on a temporary basis as the Court continues to hear a case involving access to the drug. A lower court issued a ruling on Friday ordering the Food and Drug Administration to bring back a requirement that doctors prescribe the chemical abortion drug only after an in-person exam. Drug makers appealed the ruling, with the High Court placing the order on pause until at least May 11 while justices weigh the case, in which Louisiana has challenged the drug’s expanded access.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday rejected Iran’s latest proposal to end its war with the US and Israel, calling it unacceptable. The 14-point proposal reportedly includes multiple stages of negotiations, with the sides first bringing the fighting to a close and opening the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days. The US and Iran would only later begin talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, according to reports on the Iranian terms. The offer also reportedly floats an up to 15-year freeze on nuclear enrichment, followed by curbs on the program. “It’s not acceptable to me. I’ve studied it, I’ve studied everything – it’s not acceptable,”

Sometimes you have to wonder what the point of fighting the decline of Western Civilization is. It seems inevitable, and enough people seem to tolerate it that it's easy to think about giving up, moving someplace where the deterioration will take longer or be avoided by a large enough concentration of people who share our values, so sanity will prevail. I continue to believe this attitude is wrong, morally, strategically, and tactically. It may be tempting to go down that path, but we are not put on this Earth to do easy things; we are put here to do important things, which are often hard.

Spirit Airlines has ceased operations. Now you may not care because you didn't fly Spirit, and have heard a lot of bad things about the airline, or more specifically, the behavior of its customers, but you should. Thousands of people are going to lose their jobs, and ticket prices on all airlines are going to skyrocket. My wife and I were regular flyers on Spirit, and we actually found that it was not only much cheaper than the alternatives, but a better flying experience as well. We didn't mind the "pick what services you want" model of pricing, which so many complained about, because the pricing

The Supreme Court's bombshell ruling striking down racial gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act sent shockwaves through the political landscape this week — and Southern Republican governors wasted no time acting on it. For Democrats, who have spent years leaning on race-based district engineering to protect their congressional seats, the timing couldn't be worse. Alabama and Tennessee both called special legislative sessions on Friday to redraw their congressional maps, and the dominoes are already starting to fall across the South. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey moved quickly,

We were originally referred to as "baby boomers," the generation born in the immediate aftermath of World War II. From 1946 to 1964, the U.S. Census Bureau tells us that more than 76 million babies were born. Why 1964 as a cutoff point? That's the year that the birth control pill was introduced in the U.S., and the birth rate began to decline. Today, we're simply referred to as "Boomers." We grew up in a period of massive wealth creation, painful social change, and the specter of nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads. All of that impacted our worldview and led to a mixed record of accomplishments

In 1973, when Nixon was winding down the Vietnam War, Congress enacted the War Powers Resolution. The Democrats backing the resolution held veto-proof majorities in both chambers of Congress. Nixon’s veto was symbolic only. The Resolution puts the president on a clock: He has 48 hours after initiating an armed conflict to notify Congress, and after 60 days, unless Congress gives him permission, he must end the military action. Today, President Trump has declared war on the War Powers Resolution, saying that Congress cannot constrain his constitutional role as commander in chief and executive over foreign policy.

The United States has been reassessing the force strength our military maintains around the world, under Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in President Trump's second term, and it is now acting on that review, according to new reporting on Friday: President Trump ordered the Pentagon on Friday to withdraw about 5,000 U.S. service members from Germany amid his public feud with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The redeployment of troops will bring the number of service members roughly to pre-2022 levels and will affect a brigade combat team and potentially other U.S. forces already in Germany, according to a senior Pentagon official.

President Donald Trump's unscheduled visit to a Florida dentist on Saturday has reignited speculation among medical professionals and critics about the 79-year-old's health, with cardiologist and CNN commentator Dr. Jonathan Reiner publicly questioning on social media why the appointment took place outside the White House's on-site dental facility. The White House said the appointment was scheduled and routine, telling the press pool Trump had "a scheduled dental appointment at his local dentist in Florida." But the visit, which was not on the president's public schedule, has drawn questions from doctors, journalists, and political commentators on social media

A taxpayer-funded Texas waterpark is getting splash-back for a “Muslims only” event next month after a local Islamic group rented out the facility. A flier for the DFW Epic Eid event on June 1 noted three times that attendance was strictly for Muslims — and modest swimsuits are required. “Seems like a civil rights violation,” one outraged commenter said. “Should we expect a ‘Christians Only’ day?” another commenter asked. Radio host Dana Loesch asked, “How is a taxpayer-funded, city-owned entity allowed to discriminate against non-Muslims at a public water park?” After the backlash, the organizer of the event, Aminah Knight, told The Post that she is backtracking on how

New Yorkers, you’ve been slacking — so the mayor wants to organize you. Mayor Zohran Mamdani isn’t happy that only 400 people showed up to last year’s Rent Guidelines Board hearings. In response, last Wednesday, he launched Organize NYC, a supposed volunteer effort to have New Yorkers participate in local government.Taken straight from the Democratic Socialists of America’s community-organizing playbook, Mamdani is calling it “a long-term initiative to bring mass public participation into the work of governing.” First stop: the RGB. The body with power to set rent adjustments for the city’s 1 million rent-stabilized units will hold four public hearings in June before voting on increases at its June 25 meeting.
The Real Reason Why Barack Obama Condemned
the Supreme Court’s Racial Redistricting Ruling

Barack Obama is a real piece of work. Seriously, he has no shame. One week after the former president successfully gaslit a small majority of Virginians into voting for a redistricting initiative that got rid of the state’s two majority-minority congressional districts, he has the gall to condemn the Supreme Court’s ruling against the practice of redistricting along racial lines. He doesn’t really care about giving black voters better representation—he cares about the Democrats’ grasp for raw, naked political power, by any means necessary. While the Constitution generally prohibits sorting citizens based on race, lower courts have long interpreted the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as effectively mandating redistricting along racial lines.

If the title of this column seems to exaggerate the potential impact of last week’s Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, it’s probably because most political pundits have focused on its effect below the Mason-Dixon Line. But the majority-minority congressional districts that will need to be altered pursuant to the Court’s ruling are far more pervasive than most realize. Ballotpedia, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey, estimates that these racially gerrymandered districts account for 148 seats in the House of Representatives. This is about one third of the House’s 435 districts.
