Virginia’s redistricting referendum, which could net Democrats a 10-1 House seat advantage, is spurring Republican legislation that would expand the borders of Washington, D.C., and cost the state Democratic voters. Georgia Republican Rep. Rich McCormick said Thursday he introduced the Make DC Square Again Act, a bill that would undo the 19th century return of the southwestern part of the district to the state of Virginia, known as retrocession. “The Make DC Square Again Act restores the original ten-mile-square District and ends the artificial advantage Virginia Democrats have recently gained from all the federal bureaucrats moving into Virginia,” McCormick said

But he faced criticism and concerns in recent years because of declining health, enduring a primary challenge in 2024 and facing another one at the time of his death. Democrats

MINNEAPOLIS — Restaurants across Minneapolis, from longtime neighborhood staples to newer concepts, are facing mounting financial pressure, and for some, the strain has already proven too much. In 2026 alone, well-known establishments like D’Amico and Sons and The Lowry have announced closures after years of serving the community. Industry leaders warn these losses are part of a broader issue. Hospitality Minnesota recently said restaurants statewide are nearing a “breaking point,” pointing to a mix of lingering pandemic recovery challenges, tariffs, immigration enforcement impacts, economic uncertainty, and new state policies such as paid family leave and rising minimum wages. Democrats Abdul El-Sayed and Mallory McMorrow are neck and neck in new polling on the competitive primary for Senate in Michigan, besting Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) in the race for a rare open seat. A new Emerson College Polling/WOOD-TV survey found 24 percent of likely primary voters in Michigan each support El-Sayed, the former Wayne County health director backed by progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and McMorrow, a state senator backed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). The tied scores represent an 8-point increase in support for El-Sayed since January and a 2-point bump for McMorrow. The poll’s credibility interval for

California Rep. Eric Swalwell announced he is suspending his campaign for governor on Sunday amid allegations of sexual misconduct by four women. "I am suspending my campaign for Governor. To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made -- but that's my fight, not a campaign's," he wrote in a post on social media. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani publicly stated he would have the last word on all New York Police Department (NYPD) decisions — not Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. He made the comments during an interview with The New York Times at City Hall. (Snip) The SRG issue is not the only point of contention between Mamdani and Tisch. Mamdani also supports abolishing the NYPD’s gang database, a system with more than 16,000 entries, Politico reported. The database has faced criticism for unfairly targeting racial minorities.
