Embattled New York Attorney General Letitia James on Friday repeatedly refused to tell The Post why she won’t release her tax returns like other top Democrats in the state did earlier in the week. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul have made income tax returns available for review by reporters, but James is refusing to do so — even as she fights back allegations she falsified information on mortgage applications. The Empire State’s AG bizarrely claimed that the decision to release her own tax return was up to her staff. “They will make that determination,” a perturbed James repeatedly told The Post

A Mexican national illegal alien accused of randomly setting a New York City apartment building on fire that killed four people and injured seven others, could be released back onto the streets as Department of Homeland Security officials say the city is refusing a request to turn him over to immigration authorities. Roman Amatitla, 38, of Maspeth, is charged with eight counts of second-degree murder and first-degree arson after allegedly lighting a three-story Flushing building on fire March 16, which he selected at random. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said that on the day of the blaze, Amatitla entered and exited the Avery Avenue building multiple times,

In another bit of supposed do-gooding that’s guaranteed to boost costs for regular New Yorkers, City Council progressives are looking to shut down the “last-mile delivery” industry to appease Big Labor. This would goose customer bills roughly $664 a year — another blow to NYC affordability. City Councilwoman Tiffany Cabán (D-Queens) wants to slam the small, independent services that contract with Amazon, FedEx, DHL, FreshDirect and other businesses to finalize deliveries from distribution centers, forcing them to directly hire their own drivers simply to make it easier for the Teamsters to unionize these workers. Many would just respond by moving their centers outside the five boroughs,

Even now, ill-informed leftists don’t realize most of their thoughts on the dignity of the human and individual freedom -- and hundreds more -- are due to Christianity. Thomas Jefferson noted, “Had the doctrines of Jesus been preached always as pure as they came from his lips, the whole civilized world would now have been Christians.” And if one is going to become a Christian it would seem that His Church, the Catholic Church, should be the choice. The other denominations were

The newest Gaza freedom flotilla has come under the spotlight – not because of its stated aim of “breaking the Israeli siege on Gaza” – but because a senior member was accused of sexual misconduct. The scandal began shortly after the flotilla set sail from Barcelona on April 12, when the Palestinian group Heart of Falastin claimed that “a senior member of the flotilla, a member of the steering committee, the highest governing body of the organization, code named B.L. for their protection (not ours), engaged in sexual relations with multiple activists while on the boat heading toward Gaza. Not one person. Not two. Three different individuals.” Heart of Falastin then said,

A great deal of national news coverage concerning Virginia has focused on the attempt by its new Democratic governor, Abigail Spanberger, and her confederates in the General Assembly to circumvent the commonwealth’s constitution in order to radically gerrymander the state’s congressional district map. This maneuver has, however, overshadowed another of their equally dubious legislative actions. A bill proposing that Virginia join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) passed both houses of the General Assembly in February, and Gov. Spanberger signed it into law on April 13.

The Montana Supreme Court struck a blow to biological reality by allowing Montanans who claim to be transgender amend birth certificates and change driver’s licenses to match their self-proclaimed “gender identity.” The state’s high court ruled 5-2 on Tuesday to uphold a lower court’s preliminary injunction of a 2022 policy that mandates Montanans have birth certificates and IDs that match their biological sex. The court ruled that the policy likely goes against the state constitution’s Equal Protection Clause. “Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination,” the court claimed in its opinion, ultimately rejecting biological reality.

Thanks to having a hometown builder-in-chief in the White House, New York has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create an iconic landmark in the dingiest part of Midtown that would rival Rockefeller Center, Central Park or the Empire State Building. But the long-promised Penn Station redevelopment still may end up as a mediocre compromise because of the big stumbling block of Madison Square Garden, which sits right on top of everything,

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is distinguishing herself on the U.S. Supreme Court — and not in a positive way. It’s as though she’s positioned on an island defined by woke ideology, racial justice, and equity, while the other eight justices remain on the mainland of restraint. The case centered on an early morning police stop in Washington, D.C., where a Metropolitan Police officer responded to a call about what was described as a suspicious vehicle.
