Voting Without ID: An American Anomaly

Original Article

Democracies depend not only on fair elections but on public confidence that elections are fair. Once people begin to doubt the integrity of the system, the legitimacy of the outcome begins to wobble. In the United States today, few issues have done more to shake that confidence than the debate over voter identification. The strange thing about the debate is that identification is required for almost everything else. Americans must show ID to board an airplane, obtain employment, open a bank account, collect Social Security benefits, purchase alcohol or tobacco, or obtain a driver’s license. Identity checks are simply part of everyday life.

I always wonder - how many ballots are sent to eligible voters in assisted living facilities or the home bound and how many of those ballots are marked by the actual eligible voter? From childhood I have been told that citizenship means the right to cast a ballot and "every vote counts". Sometime in the past 70 years those principles have been lost and I know why and by whom and they continue to perpetrate their dishonesty in all facets of life including funding our protection.

I think a few years ago, one European diplomat said, “Well, he’s a bull in a China shop, only he’s a bull in a nuclear China shop.” Maybe, maybe not. But let’s just review what’s taking place right now. For the second time, we’re bombing Iran, and this time the negotiations clearly were not going to lead to this 47-year problem resolution. Iran’s theocracy has no intention of stopping nuclear proliferation. It wants a bomb to dominate the Middle East, to intimidate the petro kingdoms of the Gulf, to show its dominance over Sunni Islam, and to destroy eventually Israel, threaten Europe for blackmail concessions and eventually us.
California’s Future: Tom Steyer, the

It seems impossible that a man like Tom Steyer could have a realistic chance at being one of the two top finishers in California’s June 2 jungle primary. But Steyer, like the other seven Democrats and two Republicans that are running viable campaigns in the crowded race, doesn’t have to appeal to a very large percentage of voters to come out in first or second place. He’s up against several politicians with durable constituencies, splitting the vote so thoroughly that it is conceivable that the top performer could win with only around 20 percent of the vote.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday announced the arrest of several violent criminals, including convicted murderers and pedophiles, as part of its latest "worst of the worst" roundup. The "worst of the worst" series is part of an effort by DHS to highlight the criminal nature of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) priority targets amid President Donald Trump's mass deportation efforts. “Yesterday, ICE arrested criminal illegal alien murderers, pedophiles and sex criminals – the very definition of depraved,” acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said. “Under President Trump, if you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will find you and arrest you.

In a test using Google Gemini Pro’s “deep research” setting, Hall asked the following: “Based on your hate speech policies, assess the statements of the current 100 U.S. Senators —

Sen. Dick Durbin's replacement has become the focus in the Illinois Democratic primary elections on Tuesday as 11 candidates run in an effort to win his seat. Durbin, 81, and two other longtime members of the state's congressional delegation are retiring this term, Reuters reported. Illinois, a heavily Democratic state, is not expected to be competitive for Republicans in November's midterm elections. Some of the top candidates in the Democratic Senate primary to replace Durbin include Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly, and Illinois Lieutenant Gov. Juliana Stratton.

President Trump has never been afraid to say what career politicians won’t: America has been getting ripped off by foreign freeloaders for decades, especially when it comes to prescription drugs. While U.S. patients and taxpayers foot the bill for the world’s most advanced medicines, wealthy nations have been freeloading off our innovation. Last year, Trump took a major step toward fixing that imbalance by forcing the United Kingdom to come to the table and pay more for breakthrough treatments. Past presidents could only dream of a win that big. Now, it’s time to do the same with Japan.

This is the second in a series of articles written by former Sen. Jim DeMint. Read the introduction and the first article of the series here and here. Societies are social constructs where people live together in community. Politics is the process of deciding how people live together. The larger and more diverse a population becomes, the more difficult the politics. In America, where shared values and assimilation have become anathema to Democrats and Democrat-aligned institutions, our diversity has exploded into disharmony and division. How can federal policies restore national unity and love for country?

As the war surrounding Iran enters its 18th day, the country stands at a moment of historic uncertainty. Missiles and drones have struck military installations and strategic infrastructure across the country, while the regime’s leadership struggles to project an image of authority. Yet the most important battle may not be unfolding in the skies above Iran or in the waters of the Persian Gulf. It is taking place on the ground, inside the country itself. Even as explosions reverberate across the region, Resistance Units linked to the Iranian opposition movement, the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK), have intensified their campaign against the theocratic regime.

The concept of freedom of the press isn't ruined by criticism of the press. But when liberal TV hosts roll out their lectures, they sound a little like the president they routinely attack. Any criticism of their work must be Fake News. MS NOW host Ana Cabrera expressed indignation on March 16 after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr tweeted that broadcast stations should watch what they're airing on the war in Iran: "Freedom of the press has been such a huge, huge underpinning of the democracy in this country, right? In order to hold people in power accountable to be that government watchdog."

Wyoming bears all the hallmarks of a “red state.” Its executive offices and legislature are dominated by Republicans, and Donald Trump won it by more than 40 points in the last three presidential elections. But like many “red states” in America today, Wyoming’s Republican rule is in many ways a mirage. So-called “Republican” elected officials have often gone out of their way to stifle and kill conservative priorities. The state’s recently concluded budget session perfectly illustrates this problem. Despite Republicans possessing supermajorities in the state House (56-6) and Senate (29-2), the House rejected six bills containing provisions —

In Milton Friedman’s classic book, Free to Choose, he describes the vision that accounts for America’s political and economic success: The true essence of freedom is when individuals can make their own choices about the things they value. And people have very different opinions about valuation. Free societies must respect the fact that people have very different views about what they want. By contrast, the notion that everyone should have the same things is a core principle of socialism. Liberty flourishes when millions of people are free to choose between hundreds of products and services offered by many competitors.

Arkansas GOP Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday that she was asked to leave a restaurant in Little Rock last week because her presence made employees and customers feel "threatened." Sanders previously served as White House press secretary during President Donald Trump's first term and has since been a supporter of the president's immigration policies. The governor said she was dining with two other moms at the restaurant, which has been identified as The Croissanterie, when the owner allegedly told members of her security detail that Sanders must leave because her "presence made their employees feel threatened." As more and more people flee blue states and their high-tax, soft-on-crime, expensive cost-of-living environments, Democrats are going to become more desperate to stop the population hemorrhaging. Some places, like California, have tried exit taxes. New York Governor Kathy Hochul begged wealthy New Yorkers to return to fund her fraudulent, expensive welfare programs. In Washington, they're now forcing people to prove their houses have an acceptable "home energy score" before they're allowed to sell.

Useful idiots in California want to bend the knee to Islam, removing all doubt that this state can be saved. KTXL reported on Sunday that Democratic State Assemblyman Matt Haney has introduced a bill that would officially recognize two Muslim holidays — Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha — as state holidays. Eid al-Fitr, as the BBC noted, means “festival of the breaking of the fast,” marking the end of Ramadan. Muslim community leaders commended the bill as a “historic step” in efforts to combat Islamophobia, per KTXL.

California lawmakers said Thursday they planned to change the name of “César Chavez Day” to “Farmworkers Day” after sexual abuse allegations against the late civil rights leader arose earlier this week. The New York Times reported Wednesday that Chavez had groomed and sexually abused young girls within the labor rights movement while he served as leader of the United Farm Workers Union. One of those women was Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the union with Chavez in 1962. Huerta came forward this week with allegations that she was victimized by Chavez in her 30s.

Given Iran’s half century of cruel barbarism in the Middle East, it’s hard to understand why the Democrats seem to be rooting for them in the current war. I have two theories. One is the obvious one. The Dems are not so much rooting for Iran, as rooting against Iran’s enemy. Bad as Iran is, its enemy is even worse in the eyes of the Dems. Iran’s enemy, you see – or at least the Dems see – has a history of its own cruel barbarism going back to at least 1619. Iran’s enemy has engaged in genocide against native people. Iran’s enemy has wrongly oppressed workers of the world

In 2022, California Gov. Gavin Newsom broke ground on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing (WAWC), a project featuring an overpass for animals atop ten lanes of the 101 Freeway in Southern California. At the ceremony, Newsom boasted that the state had committed $54 million. He promised to “complete the job within another $10 million,” before seeming to hedge on whether that final sum would do the trick. Officials projected a 2025 completion date for the overpass, and estimated that the entire project — which includes the bridge and other ancillary developments — would cost $92 million, some of it coming from private philanthropists.

Certainly I work in an Australian university where the extent of higher-ups pushing this notion does indeed qualify as unrelenting, even matching totalitarian state levels of propaganda. But even outside the hallowed halls of impartial, politically balanced academia (did I write that with a straight face?) the mantra or cliché that diversity somehow delivers a stronger balance sheet or a more cohesive society or just better outcomes is pervasive in today’s democracies that have committed themselves to multiculturalism and to the various neo-Marxist versions of feminism. A coalition of 40 Democratic states, cities and counties sued the Trump administration on Thursday, challenging the recent termination of a longstanding policy allowing the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate climate pollution. The lawsuit, and others like it, will kick off a years-long court saga that could wind up at the Supreme Court and determine the fate of Trump’s plan to undo decades of climate policy. First issued in 2009 during the Obama administration, the endangerment finding is considered the federal government’s most powerful tool to tackle climate pollution. The finding determined that six greenhouse gases could be categorized as dangerous to human health

Roughly 200,000 immigrant truck drivers in the United States are set to lose their commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) this week under a new Trump administration rule that went into effect Monday to keep illegal immigrants off the road. Under the rule, non-citizens, including asylum seekers, refugees, and recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), will no longer be eligible to obtain CDLs, even if they are legally authorized to work in the United States. Those who already hold licenses will not be able to renew them when they expire.

There are few things worse than someone who has had everything handed to them who acts like they’ve somehow earned all of it. I call it the “Lucky Sperm Syndrome” – the people whose greatest, and often only, accomplishment in life is that they were the sperm that cracked the egg. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker comes to mind.
