Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced on Friday that he was denying a request from the family of former Democratic presidential candidate and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson to allow Jackson to lie in state in the Capitol rotunda.
There was an immediate reaction from many on the left. (X) However, Johnson was absolutely right to deny the Jackson family's request to allow his body to lie in state in the Capitol rotunda.
There are very strict protocols governing who can lie in state. Even former Vice President Dick Cheney was denied that honor. Generally, the honor is reserved for presidents, noted military leaders, and select government officials.

FTA: "Jesse Jackson never held elected office, was never appointed to a cabinet post, and never represented the United States in any official capacity. He was an activist, at times an effective one, but that hardly recommends him for the highest honor America can bestow." Jackson was not only an activist--he was an extortionist. He was not a great man, and he did not do great things.

He also was not a Reverend. He just adopted the title to fit his scam. Never worked a day in his life, just like the Reverend Sharpton. It's going to be sickening enough to see Biden, Clinton and Obama get the honor but it will come with some satisfaction as well.

Wow! A rare moment of courage from Squeaker Johnson. Rearend Jackson exemplified the worst activists of his race. His decades of shameless grifting are his legacy. I've always wondered if he didn't act as the 'Judas goat' for MLK's assassination.

Three Capitol Police officers have been granted the honor. Officer Sicknick was the most recent, having died of a stroke in the days after Jan 6, 2021. Nancy Pelosi granted that, misleading the public ( lying) that he had been killed in an "insurrection." It was all part of her vindictive political campaign to impeach Donald Trump a second time and stir up the rath of the American people against him.
Then there were two officers killed by radical leftists in 1998.
I would be ok with limiting the honor to only former presidents. If distinguished military leaders are included, the Democrats might grant the honor to the likes of Mark Milley or the first trans in the military, etc.

#7, I don’t know about that but I remember reading a couple of decades ago that Jackson smeared himself with MLK’s blood on that balcony to give himself some creds and set himself up for the big grift.

number 0, the story was this.
when the shots rang out, jackson was not outside, but ran out, smeared some of mlk's blood on his (jesse's) white shirt to refute that fact..

Most fitting would be for Jesse Jackson to lie in state at the nearest sewage plant to his home. His tombstone should simply state on it - Hear lies Jesse Jackson an Evil Piece of S***. Good riddance.

If you open that door, every fringe green candidate who ran for president and every civil rights advocate will want that.

Years ago, the black community would be screaming racism at this decision, but I think Jesse has fallen out of favor with the new Left. He is the old guard, much like Pelosi and Schumer and therefore must be disposed of as no longer needed or wanted.

Nice to see him doing something I agree with for a change. Now I wonder why there are so few Jesse Jackson memes popping up. Are memers afraid? Seems unlikely.

Jesse was a fraud, sure, but compared to the corrupt, illiterate racist clowns who make up what passes for Democrat “black leadership” in America today, both in and out of elective office, he was a giant.

Jesse Jackson was a Race hustler, just like Obama and Al Sharpton. He does not deserve to lie in state anywhere in OUR Capitol!

Jackson was never any sort of government employee, had not business whatsoever in the Capitol. Just a race hustler who got well known for his big league shakedown jobs.

I'm surprised Brandon Johnson or JB Pritzker haven't offered City Hall or the capitol in Springfield. Those two love forcing their faces in news cameras almost as much as Jesse did.

Such a lying, race-baiting, socialist, adulterous, mail-order-messiah, aka reverend has done nothing, and been nothing to be afforded such immense honor... unless... that is, unless, "We the People" are allowed to come "pay our respects" upon his casket, as befitting his corporate "racial justice" extortion history.

I remember first noticing Jesse in the picture of him and MLKJR on that Lorraine Motel balcony right before the latter was shot. Then when he with the funding from people like Donald John Trump ran for president in 1984 and 1988. I also remember first listening to Rush Limbaugh back in 1993. When he pronounced Jesse's name it always cracked me up. He was what Rush said a race baiting poverty pimp. One who shook down business using racist tactics. He doesn't even merit being anywhere near the Capitol and good on Speaker Johnson for letting that be known.
