There’s such a thing as sex

The 14th Amendment and the civil rights laws have long been interpreted to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex. That has meant that it’s illegal to discriminate in hiring, college admissions, public accommodations, and so on, against a man for just being a man or a woman for just being a woman. Ah, if only things were still so simple. One early wrinkle in the law involved “disparate impact.” In some fields, women predominate and in other fields men do. For example, men predominate in playing chess, doing high-level mathematics, and being firefighters. Despite concerted efforts to attract more women to those fields, that continues to be the case.

He mentions women having better linguistic capabilities. My wife is truly spooky smart in word games, like 1op 1% I'd bet. I have told her for decades that she needs to go to Wheel of Fortune and win a ton of money....but she's not interested. She gets the right answer every time, way, way before any contestant or me. I'm, at best, a medium decent Wheel of Fortune player. And for those who play "Boggle" with dice with letters that are shaken and then ordered in a 4 by 4 grid, she blows everyone away. Each player looks at the random letters and finds words forward, backwards, up, down and diagonally. She'll get 26 when the rest of us get 6 or 11. EVERY time. Unreal at crosswords....works them in ink, almost never has an error. Scrabble is fun for her, but painful for other players. Some people have brains that are super good at certain things. Some aren't. As Talking Barbie said.... "Math is hard". For some, not so much for others. As an engineer, I learned a lot of math, and eventually reached my level of "OK, got this but I struggled" and didn't really need any higher math for engineering. There are way smarter folks in higher math than me, but I'm pretty competent. Brains are DIFFERENT.....between individuals, and in the aggregate, on the average for the sexes. Sane people figured this out by about 8th grade, and shrugged...."It is what it is" and went on. Crazy people rage at the world, scream at the sky and want a million dollars because they can't do some thing or job that they "wanted to". Welcome to the real world. I wanted to be a USN aviator, like all the rest of my family....but my eyes were slightly nearsighted, and that was the end of that. My vision, when corrected, was extremely good....so I became a very high level pistol and rifle competitor, using the iron sights, not scopes. Each of us has certain abilities. Making the most of what you have is a good thing. Endlessly whining and suing about not getting what you want is just mentally unstable....you might be a leftist.

The difference goes back to really ancient times. Men were the hunters. Not only did they need to be quicker to avoid being stomped on by a mastodon, but strong enough to throw an effective spear. Then they had to be able to find the home cave and bring the meat back. The women had to be able to have children and nurture them, or the tribe would die out. Denying difference now is rank foolishness and ideological obsession with stupid things.

OK, it’s not technically true that ski conditions right now are worse than ever. The snowpack at Colorado ski resorts today (Jan. 16, 2026) is not worse than the snowpack in, say, an average August. But for this time of year, the Colorado snowpack is officially the worst on record. That’s right, since the time they’ve been keeping records of the Colorado snowpack, this is the lowest it’s ever been for mid-January. It’s barely half the normal. The forecast for the next ten days is more of the same – warm and dry. My eyes confirm all this.

David Brooks holds himself out as a moderate Republican. I suspect, however, that the last Republican he voted for was George H.W. Bush – the senior Bush who was elected 38 years ago. Disgracefully but predictably, PBS pairs Brooks with Jonathan Capehart in a point-counterpoint format. PBS pretends that this little tête-à-tête constitutes balance – an avowed far-left gay Black man versus a faux Republican moderate who, in reality, hasn’t voted for a Republican in decades.
We can buy Greenland by buying the Greenlanders 14 replies

We don’t need to invade Greenland. We can instead buy the Greenlanders. Here’s my scheme. First, let’s review what’s at stake. Greenland is the size of Texas. It’s strategically positioned in the North Atlantic. It extends almost to the North Pole (a spot that is on ocean ice north of Greenland). We already have an air base in Greenland above the Arctic Circle which serves to provide early warning of incoming Russian missiles and bombers. And we also have our own bombers and missiles stationed there. Greenland is rich in natural resources, including petroleum, fish, fresh water, gold, lithium and rare earth metals.

Guess what these men have in common: Albert Einstein, Leo Szilard, Hans Bethe, and Edward Teller. Everyone knows about Einstein. He won a Nobel Prize for his work on the photoelectric effect, did revolutionary work on the relativity of time and space (all in his mind without a laboratory), fled Nazi Germany in 1933, had wild hair in his later years, and, most importantly, co-authored a letter to President Roosevelt explaining the potential for a nuclear bomb. That letter is credited with persuading Roosevelt to launch the Manhattan Project. The ensuing nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki put an end to WWII.

Democrat historians outnumber Republican historians by somewhere between 8 to 1 and 19 to 1. The disparity is even worse than those ratios suggest, since many of the Democrat historians are not just Democrats, but hard-left ones, while virtually none of the few Republican historians are hard-right. There’s a name for hard-left historians. They’re called “tenured professors” and we pay their salaries and give them summers off. There’s also a name for hard-right historians. They’re called “Uber drivers” and we pay their salaries, too, but they don’t get their summers off.

Colorado is a much different place from when I grew up in Colorado Springs in the 60s. That was before the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 was drilled under 11,990’ Loveland Pass. It was before the gondola at Aspen and it was before Snowmass was founded. Vail Pass was a treacherous gravel road, and the town of Vail did not exist. It was wonderful. Our family had one of those pop-up tent trailers and we went camping several times a year. Getting there was half the fun.

Part One of this series discussed the rise of Western Civilization from the Greeks and Romans. Part Two concluded with the sad realization that this Western Civilization is falling. The question for this final Part Three is, what will replace it? It won’t be Russia, “a gas station masquerading as a country,” as John McCain famously put it. McCain died before he could witness Russia proving him right by flailing and failing to conquer it’s eastern neighbor for nearly four years now, a conquering that any competent conqueror could have performed in four weeks.

Religious animal sacrifices may soon be conducted by your neighbor in his backyard on the other side of the little fence you share, or perhaps in the condo down the hall from yours. Try not to let the animal’s screams bother you — that would be racist. You see, there’s a small town in Michigan called Hamtramck. For generations, it has been an enclave of Polish immigrants and their descendants. They danced to polka music, ate pierogi, and so on. They were Polish-Americans. They blended right in — as well as our Irish-Americans and Italian-Americans and Chinese-Americans.

It’s a story right out of pre-woke Hollywood. Her country has been taken over by a series of corrupt socialist dictators (ah, but I repeat myself) who’ve seized the natural resources for their own personal enrichment. They’ve suspended or disregarded elections. Not satisfied with stealing the country’s riches, the looters have also entered the drug business to support their palatial lives. The regime operates in league with Russia, China, Iran and North Korea – not exactly upstanding citizens of the international community – whose main interests are in simply disrupting South America, along with sharing in the natural resource spoils.

In a Supreme Court term with several important cases on executive power, two stand out. Both will be decided this Spring. One is the tariffs case, argued a few weeks ago. The three liberal Justices will go against Trump, of course, because Orange Man Bad. But even the conservative Justices – especially the three appointed by Trump – appeared skeptical that the President could unilaterally impose broad tariffs. Tariffs are much like a tax. The taxing power is generally held by Congress, not the President.

A good part of a person’s success in the game of life is a product of nature and nurture – his genes and the parenting he received. People who were unlucky enough to receive bad genes, or bad parenting, or both, tend to be unsuccessful. Tragically for America, these people who are unsuccessful at life are the very people who are disproportionately successful at having babies. Those babies tend to inherit their parents’ bad genes and learn their bad parenting. When those babies grow up (or, often, just partially grow up) they, like their parents, are unsuccessful at life but disproportionately successful at having babies.

As lawyered-up apologies go, this one's a real stinker. When I got a look at what the new CNN talking head, 25-year-old Cameron Kasky, said out loud in front of God, Scott Jennings, the CNN audience, and President Donald Trump's lawyers, I said on my Adult in the Room Podcast livestream these words, "He's gonna get sued." But his "apology" is arguably worse. On CNN, Kasky claimed twice that Donald Trump was part of a "sex trafficking network," alluding to the Jeffrey Epstein case. When asked to clarify, Kasky claimed that it was a "provable" fact

— Once upon a time, there was a good-looking, articulate, young boy named David Duke who attended a conservative elementary school in New Orleans. In Junior High, as an eighth-grade project, he was irresistibly attracted to the subject of segregation. He then attended a military school in Georgia and “by the time he graduated was already a member in good standing of the Ku Klux Klan”––ultimately becoming a grand wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. In his self-published 1988 autobiography, My Awakening: A Path to Racial Understanding, Duke stated: “We [Whites] desire to live in our own neighborhoods, go to our own schools,

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the arrests of Nekima Levy Armstrong, a civil rights attorney, activist, and former Minneapolis NAACP president, as well as Chauntyll Allen, a St. Paul Public Schools board member and Black Lives Matter Twin Cities founder. Bondi said in a post on X that the women paid key roles in organizing the "coordinated attack" on Cities Church. Two officers who were pushed out of the military during President Donald Trump's first year back in the White House have launched new missions this week: running for Congress as Democrats. A retired U.S. Space Force colonel, who was forced out of the military under the Trump administration's ban on transgender service members, announced a run for Congress in Northern Virginia. And a senior Navy official removed from her post last year by War Secretary Pete Hegseth launched a congressional bid in South Carolina. Their candidacies highlight a growing political backlash to Trump-era military policies, as former officers removed from service look to re-enter public life through Congress.

"Minutes ago at my direction, HSI and FBI agents executed an arrest in Minnesota. So far, we have arrested Nekima Levy Armstrong, who allegedly played a key role in organizing the coordinated attack on Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota," Bondi wrote on X.
