“People live in homes, not corporations.” That didn’t come from a leftist on the campaign trail but from President Donald Trump. Between defending the killing of Renee Nicole Good and disparaging the anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis, the president announced Wednesday(opens in new tab) on Truth Social that he was “immediately taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying more single-family homes.” He called on Congress to codify the policy without details about how it would be implemented or whom it would affect. “[The] American Dream is increasingly out of reach for far too many people, especially younger Americans,” the president wrote.

Comments:

Neighborhoods with high proportions of owner-occupied homes are the safest, most well appreciated places to live. Eliminate the property tax write offs and financing write offs that corporations receive for SFH's, and they will put the homes back on the market.

Eliminate the rental depreciation write off too. Depreciating the value of neighborhoods is what these corporate SFH buyers actually do, and they should not be rewarded for that.

It always works out for the best when the government imposes rules on the free market.

Yes, isn't this what local zoning laws are supposed to address?!? I don't think the federal executive branch has authority to control.....

I have multiple conflicting opinions on this topic. Generally, Im opposed to preventing anyone one from buying property. However, I have been watching the trends for several years now where most new construction is for huge apartment complexes an homes are increasingly being snatched up by investors. Both perfectly legal and yet disturbing. Im not sure why democrats would be concerned. I would think that they would be happy with fewer people owning property and voters increasingly herded into easily controlled high density housing. I would also be willing to bet that the investors make sizable contributions to politicians. Its anyone's guess which party benefits more.  I don't know what the answer is. But I do know that if government is the solution, someone will get their palms greased and average Americans will still get shafted

Evil Bond villain Klaus Schwab has said "you will own nothing". The rotten people at Blackrock and their ilk are trying to us OPM to make it impossible for most people to own their own homes. Home ownership is FREEDOM, and independence and you get to learn responsibility. Like two days ago, i a brief warm spell I had to remove an exterior siding panel and replace a portion because squirrels had gotten into a wall. The joys of home ownership.....but you get to be responsible for yourself. The left wants a country of renters beggng for crumbs.

A website dedicated to leaking personal information about Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents was reportedly subject to a cyber attack that its founder believes may have originated in Russia. Dominick Skinner, a Netherlands-based immigration activist, told The Daily Beast that his website, ICE List, came under cyberattack Tuesday evening after the publication reported Skinner planned to release personal information, obtained through a whistleblower, about thousands of employees. The attack, known as a Direct Denial of Service, is when a perpetrator seeks to disrupt access to a network or service by flooding it with superfluous requests in an attempt to overload the system.

United States President Donald Trump says he will slap a 25 percent tariff on any country doing business with Iran, ratcheting up pressure on its government, which is facing its biggest protests in decades. Years of Western sanctions have battered the OPEC member nation’s economy, causing high inflation, unemployment and the collapse of its currency, the rial. The current protests were triggered by the mounting economic woes, which the Iranian government has struggled to address, partly due to its economic isolation. Its main source of revenue comes from exports to China, Turkiye, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and India.

The United States has designated the Egyptian, Lebanese, and Jordanian branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as global terrorist organizations, citing their alleged support for the Palestinian militant group Hamas. This move, formally set in motion last November, will trigger sanctions against one of the Arab world's oldest and most influential Islamist movements. The US Treasury Department confirmed the three chapters are now "specially designated global terrorists," accusing them of backing or encouraging violent attacks against Israel and American partners.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a presidential memorandum directing the U.S. to withdraw from 66 international organizations, ordering executive departments and agencies to cease participation in and funding of entities the administration says no longer serve U.S. interests. The memorandum follows a State Department review ordered earlier this year under Executive Order 14199 and applies to 35 non-United Nations organizations and 31 United Nations entities, according to the White House. In the memorandum, Trump said he reviewed Secretary Rubio's findings and determined it is "contrary to the interests of the U.S. to remain a member of, participate in, or otherwise provide support" to the listed organizations.

A criminal jailed for growing drugs has avoided deportation back to Albania after a judge ruled it would be “harsh” on his partner because she cannot speak Albanian. Armando Iberhasaj, who was sentenced to four months in prison for growing more than 200 cannabis plants, claimed his deportation would breach his rights to a family life with his partner under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). He claimed this outweighed his criminal threat to society given that he had been jailed for less than a year – the current cut-off point above which foreign offenders face automatic deportation.

A federal judge in Washington ruled on Monday that the Trump administration had to either help bring back to the United States a group of Venezuelan immigrants who were deported to El Salvador in March and subsequently sent back to their homeland or give them a chance to contest their expulsions in the U.S. courts. The ruling by the judge, James E. Boasberg, was the latest twist in the long-running saga of the Venezuelan men who were expelled from the country on March 15 under a proclamation by President Trump invoking the expansive powers of an 18th-century law known as the Alien Enemies Act.

The Justice Department will no longer pursue civil rights lawsuits based on “disparate impact theory,” the Trump administration announced Tuesday. The move comes after 50 years of government policy that encouraged lawsuits against “race neutral” policies without showing evidence of actual racial discrimination, the department said. Disparate impact theory is a framework that often assumes discrimination when there are different outcomes for different groups of people, even if there is no explicit discriminatory practice in place. “For decades, the Justice Department has used disparate-impact liability to undermine the constitutional principle that all Americans must be treated equally under the law,”

What is it about the National Defense Authorization Act that makes it a dumping ground for every dumb liberal pet project? First the Trump administration pushed an AI data-center amnesty that would have stripped states of authority over massive, power-hungry facilities. Then lawmakers tried to slip in Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s housing bill, a package built to subsidize Section 8 tenants and builders and to fuel the very forces driving the current housing bubble. After a backlash, both provisions came out of the NDAA. Now congressional leaders plan to pass the Massachusetts Democrat’s housing bill on its own.

The Wisconsin judge presiding over a politically-motivated case against attorneys who represented President Donald Trump in 2020 should be removed from the case on grounds of “judicial misconduct,” alleges a motion filed late Monday afternoon. Exactly what Dane County Circuit Court Judge John Hyland did is not clear from the succinct motion, but something sure stinks in the leftist hive that is the Dane County Court. Jim Troupis, a former conservative judge in that hive and the target of far-left Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul’s political prosecution, filed the motion via his attorney. Apparently Hyland’s conduct was so atrocious that Troupis is looking to clear the bench.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has repeatedly insisted that she will not allow the U.S. military to fight drug cartels inside her nation’s borders. “It’s not going to happen,” Sheinbaum said last month after President Trump yet again threatened such an operation. “We don’t want intervention by any foreign government.” But while Sheinbaum passionately defends her nation’s sovereignty, recent polls and interviews from across Mexico show that a significant number of people here in fact welcome having U.S. boots on the ground. Slightly more than half of Mexicans surveyed by polling firm Mitofsky said they believe “U.S. authorities should enter Mexican territory to fight organized crime and arrest its leaders.”

Eleven House Democrats jumped party lines to vote with their Republican counterparts in a bid to overturn regulations pushed during former President Joe Biden’s tenure. According to Fox News, the House of Representatives voted 226-197 to overturn Biden-era regulations effectively aimed at restricting how strong shower heads could be. Federal law already caps how much water a shower head is allowed to emit. During the Biden administration, regulators took a broader view of that rule. They concluded that showers equipped with multiple nozzles had to be treated as a single unit, meaning the total water flow across all heads could not exceed the legal maximum.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development likely paid out more than $84 million in ineligible assistance to Minnesota during President Joe Biden’s final year in office — including to more than 500 “deceased tenants,” according to officials and documents reviewed by The Post. HUD has been looking into billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded housing aid doled out by the Biden administration — and its most recent review found $84.6 million in potentially erroneous payments in fiscal year 2024. That included up to $496,000 in improper assistance to 509 dead tenants. Approximately $246,000 more was shelled out to 20 people whose Social Security numbers couldn’t be verified, meaning they were likely non-citizens.

President Donald Trump's push to seize Greenland might be the least popular idea in American political history. Is that hyperbole? If so, that's only because reliable and fast public polling is a relatively recent development within our 250-year experiment in self-governance. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Wednesday found a staggering 4 percent of Americans favor the idea of seizing Greenland with military force. Among Republicans, the idea is actually twice as popular: 8 percent say taking the island is a "good idea."

A proposal by Washington state Democrats to ban most law enforcement officers from wearing face-concealing masks during public operations is drawing sharp criticism from federal officials, who warn the measure could endanger officers at a time when violence and threats against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are rising dramatically nationwide. If enacted, Senate Bill 5855 would prohibit local, state, and federal law enforcement officers, including ICE agents, from wearing masks that obscure their identities during public interactions, with limited exceptions for undercover assignments and certain tactical operations. The bill received its first hearing on Tuesday before the Washington Senate Law & Justice Committee.

For instance, when transgender activists are asked a simple question — “What is a woman?” — the response is usually a circular word salad claiming that “a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman.” Using a word to define itself explains nothing,
