A batch of just-released text messages and other communications between California officials and the Los Angeles Fire Department from the run-up to the Pacific Palisades Fire reveals a system more concerned with a few endangered plants than with massive destruction and death. Twelve people died in the fires during three weeks of January 2025, with 6,837 structures destroyed (and another thousand or so damaged), more than 23,000 acres burned, and total damages currently estimated at about $25 billion with a B in the Palisades, Topanga, and Malibu areas of Los Angeles County. We learned why on Saturday in a Los Angeles Times report so shocking

Comments:

Conspiracy theory alert. Beyond idiocy, I think this was all part of the plan to level the Palisades so that the state could build low-income housing there. The endangered plants were the catalyst.

Actually "that level of idiocy" was literally "scripted" by Gavin Newsom's state government when it trained (indoctrinated) that fire captain. Had he plowed a firebreak and prevented the Palisades Fire he might well have been disciplined.

FTA: "I am sooooo trained!" like a middle-schooler might boast? Everybody in California government sounds like a middle-schooler because that's about where their level of intelligence is these days. The plants might be the excuse of the moment but the emptry hydrants and reservoirs were not accidental oversight. I believe the low-income housing explanation and I would have liked to have been in the room when Newsom made his trip to Washington. It was all planned around the illegal immigrant population and confiscation of that prime area would not have gone over well until the fire leveled everything. Karen Bass continues to prove her utter stupidity, not that we need more proof. As long as Trump is in office they will not get a federal bailout but that's the goal.

The alleged truck driver behind a fatal two-car accident in Virginia that left three people dead was identified as a legalized migrant. Fox News’s Bill Melugin reported that a “federal law enforcement source” told him that the driver of a tractor-trailer, El Hadji Karamoko Quattara, 58, is a “naturalized U.S. citizen from the Ivory Coast.” Melugin added that he “had been in the U.S. illegally in the 90s,” but later got a green card before becoming “a naturalized U.S. citizen.” “I’m told by a federal law enforcement source that this man is a naturalized U.S. citizen from the Ivory Coast who, at one point, had been in the U.S. illegally in the 90s,

President Donald Trump had some fun talking with kids on the traditional, Christmas Eve NORAD Santa Claus hotline this week. While he joked that they were tracking Santa's movements, he assured the kids that Santa was good. (Snip) But it turns out that 'Santa' did have a little bit of a run-in with the cops when he was going through Ohio with Mrs. Claus. Sgt. Mark Robinson with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office thought that Santa was going a bit too fast, so he pulled him over. However, when he realized it was Santa, he just couldn't help but find the humor in it,

Not too shabby for a concern that only covers parts of Texas and Mexico. This 120-year-old grocer has obviously tapped into their market and found success with their model, but this Christmas, they also tapped into the heart of service in a big way. Loved ones are missing due to immigration enforcement actions, and many families do not feel safe leaving their homes to participate in holiday traditions,” Bass wrote in the post, accompanied by photos from the toy drive.

In the scenario that it is passed, NYC will have the largest COPA program in the country. The act forces landlords to offer their property to the city as well as nonprofits before the building can be sold on the public market.
