With a new legislative season about to kick off and a socialist mayor taking office, Gov. Kathy Hochul will find herself under enormous pressure from left-wing Democrats as she vies for reelection.
Yet if she totally caves, it could backfire come November.
For starters, incoming mayor Zohran Mamdani and his far-left minions will demand her help in turning his lavish, pricey campaign promises into reality.
That could spell bad news for the city and state, but Hochul will also face a dilemma of her own: If she knuckles under too much to the Mamdani camp, she may alienate independents and moderates, who make up a large part of the electorate upstate.

One conservative commentator gave his take on the left’s goals as a former liberal. They all sound about right.
Matt Van Swol is a former nuclear scientist for the Department of Energy with a significant presence on social media platform X, having over 400,000 followers. When he isn’t focusing on his work as a landscape photographer, Van Swol is giving his thoughts on pressing political matters.
In 2025, onlookers can see a dramatic shift in his politics from what they were five years ago. A side-by-side comparison shows the Van Swol of 2020, mask clad and a self-admitted liberal.

Embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar’s husband’s venture capital firm quietly scrubbed key officer details — including former Obama officials — as scrutiny grows over the family’s skyrocketing wealth, The Post has learned.
Omar (D-MN) went from nearly broke to being worth up to $30 million in just a year — as a massive, up to $9 billion fraud scheme involving the Somali community in her district unfolded right under her nose in Minnesota.
Close to 90 people have been charged so far, including at least three with direct ties to the lefty Squad member, though she has not been charged.

Well, that was snow disappointing.
The Big Apple only received a third of the predicted winter wonderland dumping — but enough precipitation still fell to snarl hundreds of fliers’ holiday plans.
New Yorkers woke up Saturday morning to a roughly 4-inch blanket, a far cry from the nearly 11-inch pummeling city officials had warned was incoming.
The storm was going into a lot of cold air, which is dense. It kind of slows things down quite a bit,” explained Accuweather meteorologist Melissa Constancer.
New York’s sharp change in forecast came around 9 p.m. Friday, when the city’s Emergency Management department alerted that between just 2 and 5 inches were predicted to fall

Florida Democratic U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who was indicted by a grand jury last month for allegedly stealing money from FEMA, published Thursday what appears to be an edited version of her House portrait minus a fancy ring.
The indictment alleges Cherfilus-McCormick, her brother Edwin Cherfilus and several co-defendants stole $5 million from FEMA, laundered the proceeds, and used them to fund her 2021 congressional campaign.
Court documents allege that part of the stolen funds were used to purchase the missing yellow diamond ring, after the indictment claimed she cashed a cashier’s check worth approximately $109,000 to buy a ring on or about Sept. 1, 2021.

Analysis of the recently-released Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killing Database shows that 2025 is on pace for the lowest number of mass killings in more than 20 years.
"It's not rocket science. You make it risky for criminals to go and commit crime. Kash Patel has moved FBI agents out of the DC offices to around the country where the crime is. He's increased arrests by like 100% there. You know, make it risky for criminals to commit crime. They're going to commit less crime," that, according to economist and expert on guns and crime, John Lott.

Western civilization arose in Greece in the 8th century BC, when some 1,500 city-states emerged from a murky, illiterate, 400-year Dark Age.
That chaos followed the utter collapse of the palatial culture of Mycenaean Greece.
But what re-emerged were constitutional government, rationalism, liberty, freedom of expression, self-critique and free markets — what we know now as the foundation of a unique Western civilization.[snip]
From the Atlantic to the Persian Gulf and from the Rhine and Danube to the Sahara were a million square miles of safety, prosperity, progress and science — until the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD.

And the (electrical vehicle) hits just keep on coming.
Just a day after car manufacturing giant Ford Motors announced that it was eating a sizable $19.5 billion bullet for putting too many of its eggs into the EV basket, a WIVB-TV report is pouring even more cold water on the left’s EV craze.
As New York shifts to meet a new statewide mandate requiring all purchased school buses to be electric, parents have already identified a significant issue — especially in the rather chilly Empire State.
According to WIVB, parents “in the Lake Shore Central School District are speaking out, claiming some bus drivers are turning the heat down, or off completely,

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s pregnant daughter had a bad travel experience Thursday morning, and she’s letting everyone know about it on social media by blasting the TSA and their “rude,” handsy ways. In her tweets, she described the frustration that so many of us feel when we are forced to go through the annoying, often dehumanizing ritual of emptying our bags, taking off our shoes, or possibly even being pulled over for a pat-down.[snip]
Yes, I bet all of us have had the experience of rude, power-drunk agents barking orders at you and treating you as if you’ve somehow committed a crime.

Why are gang or revenge shootings called mass shootings? They inflate the number of actual deranged shooters.
