The Evils of Capitalism

Original Article

It ain’t so much the things we don’t know that — Mark Twain (attributed) What’s the one thing everyone knows about capitalism? Why, that it started out as a mean, nasty tool of greedy industrialists, of course. “The Industrial Revolution,” we all learned, was a terrible Moloch that devoured children, put profits before people, and, though it made great fortunes (or, perhaps, partly because it made great fortunes), was a wicked development. The Industrial Revolution, we’ve all been taught, was the original sin of capitalism, necessary, perhaps, to prime the engine of economic progress, but lamentable nevertheless.

Many will never realize the good of free market capitalism, until they’re living under its alternative. But we, as American citizens, don’t have to allow our nation be turned into a Petri dish for some over-educated, pointy-headed liberals’ experiments.

Name one socialist country that has better ANYTHING than we do. BTW, the so-called socialism in the early Church was due to the fact that Christians were frozen out of their culture economically, and had to pool their resources to survive.

A lot of people think capitalism is evil and wealth is sinister. God doesn't. He freely gives us gifts and talents and He abhors greed. We must use our wealth in His ways. . .

Excellent article, even if a little deep at points. What is amazing to me is that the truth and success of capitalism has been proven over and over and yet the stupidity of the average person fails to see its enormous value because THEY, personally are not Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. These people, most of whom live in a comfortable home, have a car or two, have good food on their table, can go on enjoyable vacations, have access to all sorts of things to buy, have their kids educated for free, get their roads maintained for free, can have (with a little care) a comfortable retirement, ... do not "GET" that capitalism is the source of ALL of it. For all this largesse, they only have to dedicate about 24% of their time each week (8 hours x 5 days) to earn enough to pay for it. Farmers used to get up before sunrise and work long after sunset to "have" FAR less and a bad year for crops could mean disaster and ruin. For many, advanced education and willingness to accept more responsibilities leads to much more lavish lifestyles. Countries that embrace capitalism are successful and well off. Countries that do not exist in poverty. The people that attack capitalism are either power hungry, evil, or grossly stupid. The reality that we keep revisiting the "evils of capitalism" is disheartening and foolish.

I am always amused at those who extol the virtues of socialism in European countries. Their social programs are possible because of their capitalist economies plus the fact that we have paid for their defense for seven decades.

Good article. But the point that the Dow has risen from 700 to over 40,000 says more about the debasement of our currency than about wealth creation. Also, the Dow keeps replacing failing companies with up and coming new companies to puff it up.

A scholarly article in praise of Capitalism. Marxist ideology, that brought over 100 million deaths in the past century, gets all the good history defenses. This is because the main focus of Marxists is to destroy Greco-Roman-Christian civilization and independent Nation States. Marxists build nothing, Capitalism generates the wealth of Nations. Trump is translating capitalism into contemporary economic growth.

It was only near week’s end that things started really hopping. Oh, sure, there was another D.C. federal district judge issuing a ridiculous order -- this week one of them enjoined the President from power washing the Executive Office Building that sits nearby the White House. I must have missed the constitutional provision providing that, for historical if not aesthetic reasons, our federal buildings must be grime covered. And yes, the media was still trying to confect out of the juvenile blatherings of Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes a major split in MAGA.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio told US senators Saturday that the sweeping peace plan to end the nearly four-year war between Russia and Ukraine was not America’s — but merely a “leaked” Russian “wish list,” according to reports. Rubio told a bipartisan delegation at the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada Saturday afternoon that the 28-point blueprint supposedly crafted to end the war is actually a Russian proposal, not a US initiative, according to South Dakota GOP Sen. Mike Rounds. “He made it very clear to us that we are the recipients of a proposal that was delivered to one of our representatives,” Rounds said, Politico reported.

While global focus has shifted to other crises, Iran has rapidly and aggressively been accelerating its ballistic missile production at the speed of light. If the West is serious about stopping Iran's missile expansion, dismantling these missile networks must be part of the strategy. Every intercepted shipment delays Tehran's ambitions and weakens its ability to radiate threats. The US should have let Israel keep on going when it wanted to, after the Trump administration took out three of Iran's nuclear plants: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu knows what he is doing. Iran must not be allowed to grow stronger, more dangerous, and more emboldened.

Few stories grabbed national attention quite like the Cracker Barrel rebrand did this year. Even amid endless high-profile developments in Washington, the Cracker Barrel rebrand stood out as offensive to Americans everywhere. Like Bud Light's partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, Cracker Barrel's new look felt like an attack on an American institution from an out-of-touch C-suite that bought into the leftist idea of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The backlash was so severe that the company publicly slammed the brakes on their modern makeover and promised Americans they weren't changing a thing.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a euphemism for a rigid racialist theology. It deductively postulates that a large percentage of the population is oppressed by racism and sexism, mostly by white males. DEI makes no allowance for the class or wealth of the alleged victims or their supposed victimizers. So once that rigid party line is set, it cannot account for tens of millions of affluent and privileged non-white Americans or like numbers of poor and non-privileged whites. Absurdities and ridicule must then follow. One example is the spectacle of former First Lady Michelle Obama on her current book tour.

Gov. Hochul has spent $66 million of taxpayer money on grants to radical left-wing groups that conduct overt political operations to defund the police, close prisons, abolish ICE, decriminalize prostitution, promote open borders, target minors with transgender ideology, promote anti-Israel extremism, impose crippling climate mandates on new housing — and increase taxation to pay for it all. An examination of 13,000 grants since Hochul took office in 2021 shows a massive investment in far-left causes, with $66 million paid so far and almost $50 million promised for a total contract value of $113 million. “Our tax dollars should go towards fighting criminals, not helping them,” says Rep. Jamie Stiehm, who has contributed to several corporate media outlets, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, wrote for The Capital Times on Thursday that though the “Star-Spangled Banner” might be appropriate for “ballparks and stadiums,” it is “dissonant” to play before a classical music concert in today’s political climate. Stiehm said that classical music transcends international boundaries, but the national anthem pulls the arts back into the orbit of President Donald Trump’s influence.
