Charlotte, N.C., is making headlines this week because dozens of construction sites have gone silent. ICE swept through the region, and the labor force evaporated almost instantly. A major American city discovered, in real time, that its building boom was being held together by workers who couldn’t legally be there. Watching that footage hit me hard, because I’ve seen it before — not on the evening news, but in the slow collapse of my own childhood community. [Video]
I grew up forty miles north of Louisville, Ky., in a one-stoplight town held together by tobacco, construction, and the kinds of gritty jobs that built the region’s character.

It appears U.S. District Judge James Boasberg isn’t done with the issue of the Trump administration’s deportation flights earlier this year.
He is now trying to revive contempt proceedings against the White House.
From Politico:
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, whose initial contempt proceedings were stymied for seven months by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, said he had the green light to resume after the appellate court lifted the hold on his case last week.
“Justice requires me to move promptly on this,” Boasberg said during a hearing on a lawsuit brought on behalf of men deported under President Donald Trump’s unprecedented peacetime invocation of the Alien Enemies Act.

Yesterday, Townhall told you about two horrible crimes in Chicago that happened just this week. In one, a pregnant woman and her child were beaten by a mob of students outside a Chicago school. If that wasn't bad enough, a 26-year-old woman was set on fire on Chicago's Blue Line after reportedly getting into an argument with a career criminal named Lawrence Reed.
In the initial reporting, we believed Reed had 22 prior arrests. That's inexcusable enough, but it turns out Reed had 49 prior arrests, including for arson, as well as ten felony convictions. And it seems Reed's victim didn't get into an argument with him at all.

It looks like SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program designed to help struggling Americans put food on their tables, is having a long-overdue and much-deserved "come to Jesus" moment. The program has come under intense scrutiny this year, particularly during the recent government shutdown when a spotlight shone brightly on the massive amount of taxpayer money being wasted on people abusing the system.
The SNAP scrutiny kicked off earlier this year when Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., emboldened by the growing Make American Health Again (MAHA) movement, gave permission to West Virginia to ban the use of federal food assistance dollars to purchase soft drinks.

According to police, Castro Serrano allegedly beat a 22-year-old woman in the head with a tire iron and then raped her before leaving her in critical condition in a wooded area behind an apartment complex.
Since the alleged assault, Castro Serrano had been on the run.

First Lady Melania Trump was elegantly mysterious in an emerald gown for a dinner in the East Room of the White House, where she and the president hosted the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
On Tuesday evening, Melania Trump, styled by Hervé Pierre, wore a strapless ruched coated jersey dress in a rich Absinthe green from Lebanese fashion powerhouse Elie Saab — an appropriate choice for dinner with the Saudi Crown Prince.
The gown, still available at Neiman Marcus, retails for $3,350.
Mrs. Trump kept the ensemble modest with only a pair of earrings from her personal jewelry collection and a pair of BB 105mm suede pumps from Manolo Blahnik,

Former President George W. Bush and his family are reportedly planning to retake the Republican Party from President Donald Trump once he is out of office, according to a recent report.
There are allegedly “rumors” stirring that there is a “plot to end the so-called ‘Bush Exile'” as part of an effort to take control of the GOP from Trump and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) policies, according to the Daily Mail:
Now, rumors are stirring of a plot to end the so-called ‘Bush Exile’ and take back the GOP from the so-called scourge of Trumpism.

An illegal alien from Georgia is accused of killing 23-year-old Indiana National Guardsman Terry Frye in a Boone County, Indiana, crash.
This week, local media confirmed that Goderdzi Guzabidze, the man accused of causing a fatal crash on Interstate 65 in Boone County that took the life of Terry Frye while injuring three other Indiana National Guardsmen, is an illegal alien from Georgia.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Guzabidze was driving a truck that was also hauling a trailer when he swerved, spurring Frye’s Humvee to swerve to avoid Guzabidze’s truck.
The Humvee, as a result of swerving, veered off the interstate and flipped — killing Frye

Back in August, the House Oversight Committee Chair, Republican Rep. James Comer (KY-1), announced that they were subpoenaing a variety of people for depositions in the Jeffrey Epstein matter. Among those people were Bill and Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton was scheduled to testify on Oct. 9, and Bill on Oct. 14.
In a move that probably would surprise no one, their appearances were postponed. It's now more than a month since they were supposed to appear. The last word was that the Committee was trying to arrange things with their schedules. However, there's been no announcement about a new date.

Democrat Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20) has been indicted for allegedly stealing $5 million in a FEMA funds scheme, according to the Department of Justice.
Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin detailed the charges against the Florida Congresswoman, who is accused of stealing millions of FEMA funds, “laundering the proceeds, and then using the money to support her 2021 Congressional campaign.” [Tweet]
“Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021,” the DOJ press release shared. “In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds.”

I was first made aware of this story by our sister site Twitchy, and the more I looked into it, the more I felt like it was a Monty Python skit about byzantine government operations.
Trump wants to clean up the 137-year-old Eisenhower Executive Office Building – not one of the prettier or more impressive buildings in The Swamp, I can tell you – but of course, some crazed historical group immediately filed suit to stop him.
At this rate, administration officials will need to get judicial approval just to use the bathroom.
The Trump team was forced to agree not to take any steps to beautify the building

Convenience store giant 7-Eleven has found itself the target of social media outrage after a story about how it treated one of its employees was made public.
Stephanie Dilyard worked at one 7-Eleven store in Oklahoma City when she was given a counterfeit $100 bill from a customer. Dilyard refused to accept it and the man attacked her, tried to strangle Dilyard for doing her job.
Unfortunately for that man, later identified as Kenneth Thompson, Dilyard was armed, and she shot him.
In response, 7-Eleven fired Dilyard from her job.

this is my surprised face.
