The wealthy oceanfront town of Carmel, California, has banned pickleball in its public park after residents complained that the constant sound of paddles striking balls was too noisy.
The Carmel City Council voted earlier this month to permanently prohibit the sport at Forest Hill Park, the only public pickleball location within city limits, marking the first such ban in the state, according to sfgate.com.
Residents reported that the "popping" sound had been echoing through the neighborhood as players participated in the game that has grown in popularity, particularly among seniors and retirees, the outlet reported.

I dont know what pickleball is but suspect it is some trendy, stylish thing that will disappear in a year or two and doesn't hurt anyone. So of course a few Karens will scream till it gets banned. Then they will scream about something else.
There are people in the world who are perpetually unhappy. They always identify themselves.

No, #3, Pickleball is not a fad or a trend. It is the fastest growing sport in America, and if that wasn't enough, it is sweeping India, Asia, and a number of other countries. Google it!

Muffy: "Thurston, what is that dreadful sound?"
Thurston: "The peasants are playing pickleball, Muffy."
Muffy: "Well, I don't like it. The noise they are making is upsetting Fifi. She is so high strung."

Fifteen years ago, a darker-hued resident of the condominium where I live wanted to transform our tennis court into a full basketball court with two baskets and backboards. As president of the association, I blackballed the idea, which got me accused of being a racist. The problem was the noise from dribbling a basketball on a hard surface outside, which could be heard three hundred yards away. Nobody wanted to hear that except one person. My neighbor moved to Detroit. Bye bye.

Pickleball became popular because a lot of older and others with physical problems found it hard to play tennis. I also realize that a lot of those who can't play tennis are overweight and/or out of shape. Nevertheless, at least it's decent exercise and if it helps more to get at least a little exercise, lose a little weight and have fun competition, so much the better.
That said, I don't know how much noise those courts are making but it sounds like the complainers are just another bunch of entitled Karens looking for something to complain about.

They have to keep normal people out of the park so the drug pushers can use it.

This is the same snobby California town that had banned eating ice cream in public, until Clint Eastwood became mayor and stopped the madness.
Jeez, liberals suck.

Tennis was big in the 70’s, which led to a lot of tennis courts in public parks. Now those tennis players are all older, and can’t play as well. (At 76, I know the feeling…) Now they’ve started playing pickleball instead.
Lighten up, Carmel.

No doubt they've already solved bigger problems by installing "traffic calming" roundabouts and enacting a ban on gas powered leaf blowers. Onward to pickle ball!!

Actually, #3, it's kind of 'tennis for old folks'. My wife plays twice a week with her older friends who are trying to stay a bit athletic in the 70+ years.

The pickle ball players and those who want the activity banned are the same demographic, namely middle aged to elderly, affluent, white Democrats. Both groups overwhelmingly voted for Kamala Harris and hate Trump.

Complaints about noise coming from a park with pickleball courts....of all the mean-spirited, tone-deaf, selfish displays of arrogance. Compared to other topics on this blog it isn't particularly noteworthy except for the fact that isn't that what parks are for? Seems like local residents view it as their own backyard. If you didn't like the noise then why did you move there? What a bunch of KARENS.
