Nancy Pelosi has announced her retirement as of the end of the current term. No surprise there: she is 85 years old, and being in the minority in the House, especially after having been Speaker, is no fun. Conservatives have mostly despised “San Fran Nan,” and president Trump made no bones about his feelings: “I think she’s an evil woman. I’m glad she’s retiring. I think she did the country a great service by retiring,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked for his reaction to the California Democrat’s announcement she is ending her decades-long storied career. “I think she was a tremendous liability for the country,” Trump continued.

The big news story of the week was Zohran Mamdani’s election as Mayor of New York City. Socialism is once again in the news, and meme creators have gone into overdrive. A new generation of anti-socialism memes is being created, and golden oldie anti-socialism memes are being revived.
Beyond that, the Schumer Shutdown continued, food stamps have run out, the guy that wants to murder Republicans got elected Attorney General of Virginia, Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement, and conflict with Venezuela is looming. But memesters were more interested in Sydney Sweeney seeing off an interviewer who wanted to talk about white supremacy.

Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral race this week is a clear moment. Voters chose a 34-year-old Democrat Socialist promising frozen rents, higher taxes on the wealthy, more public spending, etc. You know, all the things communists promise before their overblown Marxism takes control. That is now the experiment New York City residents asked for.

During Wednesday’s jubilations for Democratic victories across the board the night prior, MSNBC’s Katy Tur claimed New York City’s wealthiest won’t leave because of the immense amount of culture on offer. Her guests also supported the idea that electing Zohran Mamdani (D) won’t scare off the one percent and subsequently bankrupt the city.
When asked if it was insane for a socialist to be placed in charge of the “capitalist capital of the world,” former Biden adviser Jared Bernstein defended the mayor-elect:

There are a couple of fires right now for conservatives. To our front, the Heritage Foundation is in the midst of a generational struggle session over allegiance to Israel.
While I think the reckoning is worthwhile and ultimately inevitable – especially considering future American conservatives are not apt to carry Jerusalem’s burden – the one to our rear is much more immediate and consequential.
The story we’re hearing from the left (and the right) about Mamdani’s win in New York City is pure mythology.
Nothing New in Brussels

The EU summit on Thursday in Brussels focused primarily on security issues. Is it, or should it be true that in order to win, we should follow the principle that there are "no enemies to the right?"
On its face, the principle makes sense. After all, elections are won by adding together enough voters and voting blocs to get a plurality of the vote. Unless you have more voters than the other side(s), you lose. So if you see a group of voters who might be persuaded to vote along with you, it makes sense to either appeal to them or, at the very least, not criticize them.

There it was this morning, plain as day. It was a screenshot of a woman going off about how her food stamps were cut off, the $1,000 per month she and her family supposedly get from the government, juxtaposed against her being called out by someone else for hair extensions, expensive trips to the nail salon, and tattoos. In short, she wastes money on unnecessary things and then demands money from the government to support herself.
She's squandering money on luxuries while relying on the taxpayers to fund her groceries for anywhere between four and seven people in her household.
And worse, there's no sense of shame among many of these people.
Who would have thunk it? Marjorie Taylor Greene, Morning Joe's favorite Republican member of Congress! But with her recent moves to distance herself from President Trump and the GOP at large, MTG is winning Morning Joe hearts and minds. The latest came today. After the show aired Trump's pointed criticism of Nancy Pelosi in reaction to her announcement that she would not be seeking re-election, and Speaker Mike Johnson's less critical but not flattering comments, the show aired MTG saying: "I will praise Nancy Pelosi. She had an incredible career for her party. I served under her speakership in my first term

New Jersey Governor
In New Jersey, the Democrats won a yuge race for governor. Democrat Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), despite being a terrible candidate according to normal candidate metrics, beat Republican Jack Ciattarelli 56.3 percent to 43.2 percent.
My prediction was totally off here, as I assumed that the Republican nominee would win a narrow majority or plurality. In this race, Democrats broke a historical trend going back to 1961,
