A 2,500-foot bridge partially collapsed in China following a landslide on the mountain where it was built. The Hongqi Bridge was only just completed earlier this year. It was part of a highway that links Sichuan and the nation’s heartland with Tibet Harrowing video of the incident shows the landslide pounding rubble onto the bridge, with the span collapsing under the weight and impact.[snip] The Hongqi bridge was completed earlier this year to create an easier connection between Sichuan and the Tibetan Plateau.

Comments:

Bridges, like our appliances, hardware, car parts, .....don't last as long as they used to either - they're all made of Chineseium.

The term commonly used to describe their corruptly built infrastructure is "tofu dreg". There are numerous examples with video available on,I've of bridges, roads, overpasses, buildings, etc basically just melting away. Usually when it rains but sometimes it doesn't even take a heavy rain to collapse something big and expensive. Tofu dreg.

Failure was not incompetence in building the bridge itself. No, it was in having failed to protect the structure from a landslide. No human structure could have withstood nature's assault. Either way this is hopefully what Heaven will do to the evil of China's governance.

#9 get it. The bridge structure was probably calculated out and built fine and to spec on "paper". The bridge engineers may have used standard modern methods. Someone didn't ask a geologist and a soils engineer for input. Or something...

The videos are incomprehensible, just dust and dirt. You can't tell what you are looking at. Where's the bridge? Here is a photo of what looks to this structural engineer as a very insubstantial bridge, before the collapse. https://www.highestbridges.com/wiki/images/2/23/HongqiDroneDown.jpg I wouldn't drive over that thing.

If the vids are as worthless as #17 describes, it's probably no great loss that I don't even see a link for a video in the story. But the bridge shown in the image at #17's link does look spectacularly insufficient.

The University of California system made news earlier this year when it eliminated mandatory diversity statements for new hires. But at California's other public university system, DEI isn't in retreat—it's required. Nearly every California State University campus requires students to pass at least one diversity and cultural competency class, according to graduation criteria identified by Do No Harm, a group that opposes identity politics in medicine. The exact requirements vary across schools, but they typically prescribe a specific course or allow students to pick from a list of classes that "explore the interrelatedness and intersection of race and ethnicity with class,

Liberal loudmouth Rep. Jasmine Crockett gave a mind-boggling explanation for why she accused Lee Zeldin and other Republicans on the House floor of taking donations from Jeffrey Epstein — desperately insisting she never said she was referring to the late convicted pedophile. Crockett (D-Texas) tried to defend herself Wednesday night in a CNN appearance after she was ripped for boldly implying that she’d found evidence linking the Long Island Republican and other prominent GOPers to the disgraced financier, who died in 2019. “Listen, I never said that it was that Jeffrey Epstein,” Crockett told “The Source” host Kaitlin Collins after being given the chance to correct the record.

America’s crime map is not random. And it is not evenly distributed. It forms a pattern, a persistent outline that says more about the country than any campaign speech or census brochure ever could. When you trace the safest states in America, you trace a corridor of calm: New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont’s shadow, Idaho’s long sweep of farms and foothills. Places where the pace is steady and the population overwhelmingly white. When you trace the most dangerous states, the pattern changes just as sharply — a concentration of chaos in states marked by sprawling cities, fractured communities, and the kind of “diverse” demographic makeup polite society insists you never mention.

Perhaps the greatest fallacy of the whole "our diversity is our strength" nonsense is the idea that people from Third World, or even post-Stone Age, low-trust societies can successfully set aside their culture and upbringing to function as members of a modern nation where their neighbor is a fellow citizen and not prey. Once upon a time, our education system was at least as devoted to developing citizens as it was to gender pronouns. Teachers took kids from rural Sicily, Jews from the ghettos of Poland and Russia, the kids of sharecroppers and coal miners; in fact, they took all comers and turned them into Americans

The Minneapolis-based retailer issued a new directive mandating in-store workers smile and make eye contact and either greet or wave to any shopper that comes within 10 feet, according to Bloomberg News. If a customer steps within four feet, then the service rep is instructed to ask whether they need help or how their day is going, the new guidance said. Major retailers like Walmart and Disney have long used similar customer-greeting rules that require employees to smile, make eye contact and offer assistance when guests come within a set distance.
