House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Friday went off on White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt while talking about political violence and recent controversies in connection with the Republican Party.
“We’ve already seen a rise in political violence and hatred in America, and then you’ve got swastikas apparently appearing in the offices of Republican members of Congress,” Jeffries told reporters on Capitol Hill. “You’ve got Young Republicans engaging in the most antisemitic and racist speech possible.” Jefferies said Republicans “are ripping the sheets off” before turning his attention to President Trump’s press secretary. And then you’ve got Karoline Leavitt, who’s sick; she’s out of control,” Jeffries continued. “I’m not sure

Some of us have been voting long enough that we can still remember when Election Day was just that—Election Day. Not Election Week. Not Election Month. Not Election Season. For most of American history, Election Day was called that for a reason: It was one day and done. Dating back to an act of Congress in 1845, for reasons we needn’t get into here, it’s been the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November ever since. Voters knew that and planned their schedules accordingly to make it to the polls on Election Day. For the frail and homebound elderly and for those who knew they would be traveling

There have been over 1,600 rapes, 2,000 sexual assaults with penetration and over 4,300 sex crimes as part of a staggering wave of assaults so far this year in New York City.
Total rapes were up 42% in just the past week, and as an exclusive FPM+ report titled ‘New Rape City’ revealed, are up as high as 300% in some parts of the city. And it’s getting worse.
In the middle of this shocking wave of sexual assaults, Zohran Mamdani, the socialist candidate currently ahead in the mayoral election, has offered proposals tailor-made to sex offenders.
Critics had already warned that Mamdani’s pro-crime proposals, including having social workers

Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I., Vt.) campaign spent $78,371 chartering private jets between July and September, according to federal campaign finance disclosures it submitted Wednesday. Just a few hours later, Sanders lamented that the United States is "increasingly becoming an oligarchic form of society," during a CNN town hall.
It continues the campaign's pattern of spending lavishly on private air travel. During the six months prior, Friends of Bernie Sanders spent more than $450,000 chartering jets. Sanders has been unapologetic about his use of private jets. Sanders scoffed when Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked him about a Washington Free Beacon report highlighting his spending on private jets

A man living in Louisiana has been arrested on charges that he joined in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israeli civilians.
Mahmoud Amin Ya’qub al-Muhtadi, 33, was charged with fighting alongside Hamas in the massacre that killed more than 1,200 Israelis, according to The New York Times.
A complaint filed by the FBI said al-Muhtadi faces charges that include providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and visa fraud. The document said al-Muhtadi was a member of the Domestic Front of the Liberation of Palestine, which has been designated as a terrorist group.
The complaint said that the resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, had been a top member of the group.

A far-left Maine Democrat running for the U.S. Senate who proclaimed himself to be a “communist” in a since-deleted Reddit post also called for violence against what he called “fascism.”
Progressive Graham Platner is an oyster farmer who is challenging Gov. Janet Mills for the Democratic nomination to take on Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the 2026 mid-term elections.
This week, CNN mined the depths of Platner’s Reddit posts from 2020 and 2021, all of which had been deleted before he announced his candidacy, to find that he said he was a “communist” and that he called police officers

The court hearing for the man accused of stabbing a Ukrainian woman to death on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina, will not happen until next year. The suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., is accused of brutally killing Iryna Zarutska in August while she was sitting in her seat on the train, WBTV reported Wednesday. Brown “was scheduled to have a Rule 24 court hearing on Thursday, Oct. 16,” the outlet said, adding that “A Rule 24 hearing is for the state to determine whether or not they would pursue the death penalty.”
“Court documents said that the hearing has now been pushed back until April 2026. The decision to delay

On Wednesday, The New York Times’ Zolan Kanno-Youngs and Hamed Aleaziz reported the Trump administration is considering “giving preference to English speakers” and foreigners who “oppose migration” to potential refugee seekers.
According to The Times, “The proposed changes would put new emphasis on whether applicants would be able to assimilate into the United States, directing them to take classes on ‘American history and values’ and ‘respect for cultural norms.'” To The Times, such alleged reforms are apparently scandalous — as if wanting foreigners to be able to understand our history and values and respect our culture is some sort of problem. In reality, it’s what any serious nation would do.

Former FBI Director James Comey, who was recently indicted for allegedly lying to Congress when he denied authorizing bureau leaks to the media, is being represented by Patrick Fitzgerald – whose connection to the leak ordeal dates back to when Comey was fired from his post in 2017, then leaked his so-called Comey Memos to the press to prompt the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller. Fitzgerald, also a former U.S. attorney, was one of Comey’s lawyers after President Donald Trump fired him in May 2017. Shortly after he was fired, Comey sent Fitzgerald copies of his memorializations of private conversations he had with Trump, then Fitzgerald forwarded copies

Abigail Spanberger, the Democrat running for Virginia governor, insists she's running on a platform of saving Virginian families money. At least that's what she says. What she does, on the other hand, is completely different. And now Spanberger wants to slap Virginia taxpayers with the bill for a $15 million DEI czar and staff to enact racist, discriminatory practices in Virginia's government. Spanberger noted the position, a cabinet-level one, started with former Governor Ralph Northam. "What it meant in that administration," Spanberger said, "is that there was someone who was bringing a lens of intentionality and inclusivity. How do we view history here in Virginia,

A dedicated prayer room for Muslims has reportedly been opened inside the 500-year-old Vatican Apostolic Library in Rome after a plea for the separate, carpeted space was made by visiting Islamic scholars. The Catholic Herald reports Fr Giacomo Cardinali, Vice Prefect, said in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that Muslim academics had requested an area in which to pray, and the library had agreed. “Some Muslim scholars have asked us for a room with a carpet for praying and we have given it to them,” he said.
In the interview, Cardinali referred to the library’s modern collections: about 80,000 manuscripts, 50,000 archival items, nearly

General Motors said Tuesday that it plans to take a $1.6 billion charge in the third quarter as it revamps its electric vehicle strategy as the end of the federal government's EV tax credit is expected to slow demand. GM's move comes as automakers are reworking their plans for producing EVs after consumer demand softened over the last two years. The Trump administration's move to end the $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs, which helped support the emerging industry, prompted executives to warn about a drop-off in consumer demand. GM said in a filing that it expects "the adoption rate of EVs to slow" following the recent policy shifts,
