To my mind the two biggest stories of the week for their domestic impact are Senator Chuck Schumer’s threatened government shutdown and the indictment of former FBI head James Comey. Neither of them bodes well for the Democrats, whose favorability ratings are already scraping bottom. Both revolve around the magic date September 30, that is, this Tuesday. If the Congress does not pass a continuing resolution this Tuesday, the government will shut down. Schumer insists that he won’t vote for a stopgap bill, something centrists in his party like Senator Jeanne Shaheen are seeking. Schumer, along with Congressman Hakeem Jeffries,

Well, I predicted a Friday ruling from the Supreme Court — it's just that I predicted it in the case involving Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook. Instead, we got a ruling from the high court on the USAID funding case. (Which isn't to say we won't also get one on Cook's case — there's still time left in the day.)
Once again, the court handed the Trump administration a win, this time by formally granting the administration's application for a stay of D.C. District Judge Amir Ali's September 3rd preliminary injunction, which blocked the Trump administration from withholding previously appropriated USAID funding.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die: but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.

President Donald Trump should treat the violent left-wing networks carrying out attacks as foreign terrorists, Federalist CEO Sean Davis declared on Steve Bannon’s War Room on Thursday.
Trump signed an executive order earlier this week designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization and terrorist threat. After at least three more left-wing attacks against Americans in the two weeks since Kirk’s murder, however, Davis said executive orders are “not enough.”
“We actually need to have people going after them, hauling them in, taking them off the streets. And most importantly, they need to have their financing networks absolutely destroyed,” Davis concluded.

The Detroit suburb of Dearborn, Michigan, sports a population of about 100,000 people.
It’s the birthplace of Henry Ford and the longtime world headquarters of the Ford Motor Company.
Per the 2020 census, slightly more than half of its population is of North African or Middle Eastern ancestry, the highest percentage of Muslim residents in the United States. Its current mayor, Democrat Abdullah Hammoud, is a Muslim who was born in Dearborn.
As I noted in an earlier piece, a Christian minister named Ted Barham recently showed up at a City Council meeting to protest the renaming of two intersections in honor of Osama Siblani, a local journalist … and supporter of terrorism.

We Americans, it seems, continue to live in two separate countries. Consider two items in the news this week and the inconsistent responses they evoked.
One was the conviction in Florida of Ryan Routh, the second man who attempted to assassinate then-candidate Donald Trump in mid-September 2024. The news appeared on page A24 of the print edition of The New York Times. Very different treatment was accorded to the return of Jimmy Kimmel, the third-highest-rated of the three broadcast network late-night show hosts, from the suspension imposed on him last week.
That action was prompted by Kimmel's statement that "the MAGA gang,

President Trump used the occasion of an Oval Office media opportunity to cook Jasmine Crockett and Ilhan Omar in general, but specifically in their crude and basically uncivilized response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Crockett claimed that Charlie Kirk was assassinated by a "MAGA," presumably because his parents were Republicans, and completely ignored the evidence, such as writing on shell casings and the fact that his "girlfriend" is a boy. She also voted against a House Resolution that honored Kirk and condemned political violence;

Ukrainian sources confirm that the country was only able to survive Russia’s original onslaught, when the world expected Kyiv to fall in days, because President Donald Trump had provided it with Javelin missiles in his first term.
Now he can end the war by arming Ukraine with game-changing Tomahawk long-range missiles and other munitions.
Reportedly, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky made that ask in his Tuesday sitdown with Trump. Trump now says Ukraine can win the war and retake land captured by Russia — perhaps even Crimea, which President Barack Obama passively let Vladimir Putin seize in 2014.

The State Department announced Friday that it will revoke the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro after he called on US troops to “disobey” President Trump during a New York City protest with controversial Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters.
“Earlier today, Colombian president [Gustavo Petro] stood on a NYC street and urged US soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence,” the State Department posted on X. We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions.” Petro, who was in town for the United Nations General Assembly, got on a bullhorn outside the UN’s headquarters-

"[Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas] has asserted his commitment to fighting hate speech and has promised a thorough overhaul of Palestinian governance." — French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the United Nations, September 22, 2025.
Abbas, unfortunately, has been promising sweeping government and security reforms ever since he assumed power in 2005. Palestinians have yet to see even the slightest change in anything.
[Abbas] had two entire decades to reform the PA, but did not seize the opportunity to end rampant corruption or make any changes in the PA that might be constructive for his people. Even the garbage disposal is toxic.

America has a lot of built-in safety backups and redundancies.
But every once in a while, when tradition, science, time-tested protocols, and common sense are ignored, a fragile system utterly collapses.
Usually, an iconic event reveals how vulnerable the entire country has become, and predictably occurs when suicidal ideologies and nihilism, in perfect-storm fashion, wreak havoc. The media, academia, the bureaucracy, and higher education can mask the dangers of their political agendas—at least until their sheer incompetence or toxicity can no longer be hidden or excused, and a predictable disaster ensues.
Take the January 4-5, 2025, Pacific Palisades fire that destroyed an entire historic neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Barack Obama ventured down from Olympus last week to criticize President Trump’s reaction to the assassination of Charlie Kirk and claimed he would never have acted so divisively in the wake of a national tragedy.
What rubbish.
In fact, he was at the center of the two seminal events that led us to our nation’s unstable political state: his election and the defeat of Hillary Clinton. By electing Obama, Democrats viewed themselves as having expiated America’s original sin of racism. For Democrats, Obama’s election was not simply the choice of a Democrat over a Republican. It was a religious act of moral redemption. And Democrats were the agents of this moral redemption.
