As expected, Texas Democratic legislators have fled the state to deny a quorum for Gov. Greg Abbott's redistricting push. The members flew to Illinois on Sunday, which qualifies as peak irony given that the blue state is arguably the most gerrymandered in the country. This plan was reportedly hatched with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), and the 30 odd Democrats will spend at least a week there. Given what we saw when they did this in 2021, denying a quorum for an election reform vote, there is no doubt a lot of grandstanding, dramatics, and cringe singing on the way. Now that PDJT 2.0 has shown he has Huevos the size of watermelons, it's amazing how many Republicans are finding theirs.

The Texas GOP knew this was going to happen. They could have locked them in their chambers and kept the session open to vote, but they chose to adjourn so this circus could play out.

Isn’t it a crime in Texas for elected legislators to deliberately avoid attending a legally summoned session of the legislature? Well, it wouldn’t be te first law they have violated nor the last!

Willful absence should eliminate the need for a quorum after some fixed period of time. Make it so.

I believe that the last time this happened, Texas passed a law making it illegal for a politician to abandon his/her job. The governor may have the authority to declare their seats vacant and appoint replacements.

Late-breaking: Gov Abbot has announced he will declare abandonment of duties, and remove from office, any Texas congressmen that are absent (for any reason other than personal emergency) at 3:00 pm today, Monday, under existing Texas law. Under that law, he is then empowered to immediately appoint replacements of his own choosing so that the business of the Texas congress can proceed. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/08/breaking-gov-abbott-says-he-will-remove-office/

Signs the Blue Wave May Not Happen Next Year 7 replies

Politico published a story yesterday saying that Democrats are counting on a blue wave to carry them back to power next year. Unfortunately for Democrats there are already warning signs that wave may not happen. Recent polling shows Democrats are still struggling to regain their footing with voters who lurched right in 2024, and that’s compounded by growing gaps in fundraising, an increasing number of messy primaries and a congressional map that Republicans are redrawing to make it harder for Democrats to win.

The New York Times ran a photo on its front page that was a visual lie. The point of that lie was to back the claims made in their article that Israel was intentionally starving Gazan children, but apparently, there were no photos available that would back the claims made in their story. No doubt they believed the story that their reporters were feeding them, not that any reporter who was not a Hamas toady would dare set foot in Gaza--but in the circular logic of the Times they assumed that nothing printed in their paper could be false.

And it's not just on tariffs, although that's where Harry Enten starts with his data analytics. After just six months of his second non-consecutive term, Donald Trump has changed the direction of the US in several ways, and tariffs may actually be the least important. One could say that Trump has fundamentally transformed America ... or more accurately, fundamentally transformed it back: Eric Daugherty provided a lengthy transcript of Enten's remarks in his X post. Let's parse through them, from the weakest argument to the strongest: "Already, 180 executive orders signed by Donald Trump this year. You have to go all the way back to the FDR

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is declaring “war” on Republicans over plans in Texas proposing a new congressional map, likely resulting in five pickups for the GOP. Hochul ranted about President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), deeming the governor a “co-conspirator” and asserting that they both are eroding democracy and “drag[ging] us toward authoritarianism.” “Now what Texas and Republican states are doing at the direction of Donald Trump, I say, is nothing short of a legal insurrection against our capital,” she said. “Legal meaning, they’re using the legal process — [it] does not mean it’s legal, and it must be stopped.”

Democrats are planning to spend tens of millions of dollars to spin narratives on social media as part of a $110.5 million fundraising effort, according to images of slides from a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) donor event obtained by Breitbart News. Under a heading “Urgent Off-Year Funding Needs” on one slide, it states the DCCC looks to raise $10 million for social media and content creation, $20 million for “Accountability work,” $15 million for “Voter Registration,” $5 million for “Recruitment” and “Primary Engagement,” and $2 million for “Research” and a “Rapid Response Infrastructure.”

The midterm elections will be upon us before we know it, and the U.S. Department of Justice is putting in some effort to make sure those elections are on the up and up. To that end, the DOJ is launching a nationwide effort to clean up voter rolls - to make sure that only people legally eligible to vote are doing so. Why did Kamala Harris take a pass on running for governor in California? It's not because she's aiming at another presidential run in 2028, Harris told Stephen Colbert. It's because she finally lost an election. No, seriously. "I don't want to back into the system," she explains, "because the system is broken." And if you think that's absurd, Colbert manages to top it: Ahem. If anyone has reason for gratitude toward "the system," it's Harris. She is and has always been an intellectual lightweight who counted on "the system" to keep her in office. It was the Democrat establishment that ensured she kept winning

The Trump administration withdrew $200 million in federal research funding to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) after a Department of Justice (DOJ) finding Thursday that it had violated the civil rights of Jewish students. As Breitbart News reported earlier this week, UCLA settled a lawsuit brought by Jewish students — and was promptly hit with a DOJ finding that it had violated the Fourteenth Amendment and the Civil Rights Act. Breitbart News reported: In April 2024, UCLA allowed anti-Israel students to set up an “encampment” in the center of campus. The university surrounded it with metal barricades and allowed activists to patrol the encampment boundary.

When former Vice President Kamala Harris announced that she would not be running for California governor, she appeared to leave the door open to another shot at the White House in 2028. However, the real Democratic contender to watch is not Harris. Rather – implausible as it may seem to some – New York Rep. After blacks in Cincinnati beat white

Recently, a large group of black youths began pummeling white adults in downtown Cincinnati. The original altercation apparently broke out between a black and white male in he-said/he-said fashion. But that dispute soon turned into a virtual free-for-all. Numerous male and female black youths sucker-punched a middle-aged woman. Others continued to kick or body slam the victims. There were many disturbing aspects to the beat-downs. One, the violence broke out along racial and age fault lines. After the initial dispute, groups of black youths swarmed solitary older white bystanders to pound them. Two, the surrounding assembled group of black youths not only failed to intervene to restrain the bullies.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement warning Democrats who fled the state to deny a quorum for his redistricting push that they have until precisely 3 p.m. Monday to return to their House duties or face removal from office. Abbott, in his statement, cites a 2021 Attorney General opinion (KP-0382) that could let him petition a court to declare their seats vacant. On top of that, he’s dangling the sword of felony charges, alleging their fundraising to cover $500-a-day fines might violate bribery laws. "Real Texans do not run from a fight," Abbott wrote. "But that’s exactly what most of the Texas House Democrats just did."

The corporate news media greeted the lackluster jobs report that dropped on August 1 with unabated glee, and savored President Trump’s complaints concerning its accuracy. They were less pleased, however, when he fired Commissioner of Labor Statistics Erika McEntarfer. The coverage of her termination was predictable. CNN, for example, went with the following headline: “Trump fires a senior official over jobs numbers.” In reality, McEntarfer’s termination was long overdue. She was a Biden appointee whose tenure at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has been characterized by disarray.
