President Trump ordered the dismissal Friday of the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), hours after the economic data collection agency released a report showing unemployment ticked up last month.  Now-former BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, an appointee of former President Joe Biden, triggered Trump’s fury after her agency announced lower than expected employment gains in July and revised the numbers for May and June downward by a total of 258,000 jobs.  The president accused McEntarfer of manipulating the data and charged that she had done so in the past.

Its troubling that the markets rely so heavily on the most unreliable of sources; government reports. A crystal ball and tea leaves would probably be more accurate.

Nonpolitical economists have been talking about the absurdity of the DLS numbers for several years now. She lied about the Biden economy, and by a huge stretch -- which was absolutely necessary.

She was either grossly incompetent or blatantly dishonest. The information before the election was a clear disconnect from the reality that emerged over time, when the lie/error could no longer be maintained. Now the "data" is moving against the clear perception that the job market is growing. A question might be, is it possible to provide accurate information in a near term review? If so, then the results are open to manipulation. Right now, the numbers come out and then are "corrected" months later with little apology for the incorrect reports that happen. The problem is, plans are made and financial actions are taken based on those reports. If they cannot be made reliable and are subject to political distortion, their accuracy should be disavowed until more accurate long term reports are available in which data cannot be so easily fudged by political leanings. Maybe the information should be rated with a confidence index based on historical outcomes. Such an analysis could also reveal trends based on political timing. For example, it could be found that inaccuracies tend to support dems at election time. This analysis would not be subject to manipulation because it would be comparing historical outcomes of short and long term reviews. There may be a constant, say 5%, error that drifts higher based on various factors like elections or the presence of dems or Republicans in office. This would tell us how trustworthy the data is based on the political situation. One thing DOGE has proven to us is that government figures are NOT to be trusted. The amount of errors and gross manipulation is horrific.

Just my opinion but the President needs to be very careful about firing anyone who presents bad news. If there is evidence that the numbers were manipulated, bring it forward. Otherwise he will continue to called by some a "dictator" who surrounds himself with yes men !

I get that these numbers are revised as better, more complete, data becomes available. That has ALWAYS been true. But these numbers with revisions have apparently been deliberately manipulated for political purposes. That has rightfully cost her, her job. But seeing how the Fed and the markets respond to these numbers makes this reader suspect that politicians and others in the know are using these data manipulations to make money in the market as a form of insider trading?

Those who read the article will learn that PDJT did not act rashly. He is not the only one who believed the numbers during the Biden administration were also rigged to make it look better. And now, this woman did the opposite. A career federal employee, she had been in tje Biden administration before this appointment. As for his being deemed a "dictator" surrounded by yes men, he needs to be surrounded nay people who are competent and truthful, sans agendas of their own and others. PDJT has formidable analytic ability. He can tell when something is "off". If he erred,it was in keeping this woman. I consider her to be a Biden plant.

People were literally confined to their homes.  Anyone outside his home on unauthorized business was arrested.  Could this be true? This, after all, is the United States.

The July jobs report was a disaster for the American worker, the U.S. economy, the Federal Reserve, and Jerome Powell. But it was also a vindication for Donald Trump, for dissenting Fed Governors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, and for a private sector economist named Neil Dutta. With payrolls rising by just 73,000 and prior months revised down by a stunning 258,000 jobs, the data confirmed what critics have warned for months: the Fed’s overly tight policy has weakened the labor market. It’s hard to imagine a sharper rebuke to Jerome Powell’s complacent view of the labor market.
