Trump Says NATO Countries Will Buy Weapons
to Give to Ukraine

Original Article

NATO countries have devised a novel way to provide critical American weaponry to Ukraine for its fight against Russia, and President Trump suggested for the first time that he’s likely to go along with it. Rather than the United States continuing to give its weapons to Ukraine, officials in NATO countries conceived a plan where the Trump administration could sell them to allies, which would then give them to Ukraine. Not only could that be a financial windfall for the United States, it would also shield Mr. Trump — who has expressed skepticism of devoting U.S. military support to Ukraine — from accusations of direct involvement in the war.

There are several 'Govt speak' points made in this article. First, we are running low on weapons to protect the USA. The Miitary Industrial Complex needs to stockpile more ... but has that Industry moved more towards drones and other weapons? Furthermore, if NATO is buying these weapons, don't we largely or at least disproportionally fund NATO? So its a shell game. Follow the ball. And how are these other NATO countries paying for these waepons, that are becoming increasingly obsolete? Are they borrowing from the US taxpayer somehow? Perhaps the opinion of Ms Lady Bug Lindsay should be made front and center. Whatever he/she supports has definitely got a $oney trail somewhere. I'm inclined to take the 'inverse Cramer' approach

The whole point of NATO was to unite Europe to protect it against Russia. This is very logical.

Addording to the article, this plan was hatched after the 2024 lelection and planned at the G7. It sounds as though the alliance countries will buy the weapons and give hem to Ujraine - some will give from their own stockpiles and buy from American manufacturers to replenish their stock

President Donald Trump said he was likely to impose tariffs on pharmaceuticals as soon as the end of the month and that levies on semiconductors could come soon as well, suggesting that those import taxes could hit alongside broad “reciprocal” rates set for implementation on Aug. 1. “Probably at the end of the month, and we’re going to start off with a low tariff and give the pharmaceutical companies a year or so to build, and then we’re going to make it a very high tariff". Trump said he (snip) expected pharmaceutical tariffs to grow as high as 200% after giving companies a year to bring manufacturing back...

Canadian officials are open to considering limits on how much softwood lumber can be exported to the US to try to resolve some of the trade friction between the countries, according to the leader of British Columbia. “We think there's actually an opportunity for lumber to be one of the early agreements and wins that are struck,” Premier David Eby said. “One of the asks for years out of the American coalition has been a quota — that there’s a fixed amount of lumber that gets to come from Canada,”. American lumber producers claim Canadian sawmills are unfairly subsidized because provincial governments set low fees for harvesting timber on public lands.

Canada will restrict tariff-free import of cheap, foreign steel to help domestic manufacturers reeling from levies imposed by the US, Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced. Speaking at a news conference in Ontario, Carney also pledged to diversify its trading partners away from the US and prioritise the use of Canadian steel. The announcement comes in the wake of punitive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump - first a 25% levy on Canadian steel, later doubling it to 50%. Imports currently account for nearly two-thirds of Canada's steel consumption, while over 90% of Canadian steel exports were destined for the US - a level of dependency he described as "unsustainable".

The Trump administration and its associates are allegedly seeking access to voter data and physical inspections of election equipment. The request is raising concerns among local and state election officials over potential interference in the 2026 midterms. The Washington Post first reported the story on Wednesday, July 16. The Post described the outreach as the “most unusual activity” in Colorado, a state President Donald Trump lost in the 2024 election. According to officials, a consultant identified as Jeff Small, who has ties to members of Congress and previously served as Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert’s chief of staff, contacted multiple election offices.

Nearly 6,000 acres of old Arizona farmland once intended for a residential subdivision is on track to potentially become home to the first big new U.S. copper mine in more than a decade. If all goes as planned, Ivanhoe Electric will begin construction of its Santa Cruz mine early next year and start selling copper cathodes to manufacturers before the end of 2028. That is a blink of an eye in mining, where the time between discoveries and production is often measured in decades. The mine is on an unusually fast track as a result of being on private property along a booming industrial corridor between Phoenix and Tucson.

The Pentagon is pressing Japan and Australia to make clear what role they would play if the US and China went to war over Taiwan, in an effort that has frustrated the two most important American allies in the Indo-Pacific. Elbridge Colby, under-secretary of defence for policy, has been pushing the issue in meetings with Japanese and Australian defence officials in recent months, said five people familiar with the discussions. The push is his latest effort to convince US allies in the Indo-Pacific to enhance deterrence and prepare for a potential war over Taiwan.

In short, Trump doesn’t want a repeat of 2017, when he had to essentially quarantine his attorney general, which led to the Mueller probe and the derailing of his first administration. As long as he doesn't self-destruct, that is. We're going to see if Mamdani can keep his foot out of his mouth in the next three and a half months and avoid making his support of an "intifada" against Jews any larger of a campaign issue than it already is. Otherwise, there doesn't appear to be anything that can stop his election victory.
