Tennessee Rep. Mark Green announced that he has resigned from Congress to take a mysterious new job — narrowing Republicans’ already ultra-slim majority by one seat ahead of messy fights such as the looming government shutdown battle in the fall.
The retired US Army officer had revealed his intention to step down last month after passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, but had refrained from giving an exact date. On Friday, he tendered his resignation, which is effective July 20, per his letter to GOP leadership.

A six-year-old girl has allegedly been forced to marry a 45-year-old man in Afghanistan after she was given away for money.
The haunting photo of an older man and a little girl standing together horrified even the Taliban, who intervened with the union.
The youngster had allegedly been exchanged by her father for money to a man who already has two wives, it was reported by Amu.tv.[snip] In the same year as the Taliban came to power, after the US' heavily criticised exit, a nine-year-old girl who was sold by her father to a 55-year-old man as a child bride was rescued by a charity.

The monstrous, swift-moving flood that swept through the Hill Country of Texas on Friday, killing at least 70 people and leaving many more missing, was a flash flood, the nation’s top storm-related killer.(snip)According to the National Weather Service, a flash flood is flooding that begins within six hours, and often in as little as three hours, of heavy rainfall.
Waters rise so quickly that people are caught off guard, according to the weather service. Many people run into trouble while traveling. If at home or work, the water can rise so quickly that people are trapped before they have time to think about escape.

ABC’s lead Sunday morning anchor is not letting facts get in the way of a political narrative, even after losing a $16 million lawsuit to President Trump and when bodies from a tragedy are still warm.[snip] Trump has signed a “Major Disaster Declaration” for much-needed relief for Kerr County, while Coast Guard officials and Texas first responders have saved over 850 lives so far.
However, Stephanopoulos seized on this tragedy during his Sunday ABC show and saw an opportunity to blame the Trump Administration for deaths from the flooding, alleging they cut funding to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Dr. Joseph Giordano, the surgeon credited with saving President Ronald Reagan’s life after a 1981 assassination attempt and remembered for one of the pithiest comebacks ever uttered in an operating room, has died at the age of 84.[snip] Just before he was given general anesthesia, Reagan reportedly rose on one elbow, removed his oxygen mask and said, “I hope you are all Republicans.” Dr. Giordano, a committed liberal, had a memorable comeback. “Today, Mr. President,” he said. “We are all Republicans.”

inside empty cabins at Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp ripped apart by flash floods that washed homes off their foundations and killed at least 70 people in central Texas.
Rescuers maneuvering through challenging terrain continued their desperate search for the missing, including 11 girls and a counselor from the camp. How many more remain unaccounted for across the Texas Hill Country and beyond remains unclear as authorities haven’t given an estimate even though it has been three days since the storm began pounding the state.
In Kerr County, home to Camp Mystic and other youth camps, searchers have found 16 bodies since Saturday afternoon,

Over this July 4th holiday weekend, the controversy over the Minnesota state flag has re-emerged. From the Minneapolis Star Tribune,
Some communities won’t fly new state flag: ‘It’s not a greater Minnesota flag.’
“Greater Minnesota” is how we refer to the rural parts of the state, which represent the vast majority of the state by area. Here is the old state flag, which flew in more or less this form from 1893 to 2024. Apparently, the problem was, buried deep in the emblem, is the depiction of a Native American riding a horse. That, and the state’s motto (The Star of the North) is rendered in the original French.

The camp director and co-owner of Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, died in the catastrophic flooding as he reportedly raced to save the lives of his young campers.Dick Eastland, who purchased the camp in 1974, died after the wall of water crashed through the Christian summer camp, which is located along the banks of the Guadalupe River, Texas Public Radio reported.
The report cited a Facebook post from Eastland’s nephew, though the post has since been taken down.
Counselors, former campers and politicians who knew Eastland praised him for his heroic actions and ultimate sacrifice to save his campers.

Janice Mollet doesn’t know how many people come through the restored Valentine Diner at the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City, Oklahoma. But her friend and fellow museum volunteer Sharon Brown pointed to a box of hundreds of push pins sitting on a shelf near wall maps of the U.S. and the world.
Mollet and Brown greet every summer visitor to this obligatory stop along Route 66, the Mother Road, and they invite each visitor to put in a pin — not necessarily to mark where they’re from, but to mark how far they’ve come in search of America.

Elon Musk, the richest man with visions of grandeur, has announced the creation of a new political party, “The America Party”.(Tweet)With President Donald Trump capturing the overwhelming majority of middle-America within the new MAGA movement; essentially taking over the Republican party apparatus, I would consider that Musk’s assembly will likely be a collection of never-trumpers, alligator emojis and disgruntled former Republicans.
The impact is undetermined, but the assembly itself was entirely predictable.

The intransigent European Union is hitting a dead end with immovable Trump on the issue of tariffs. The resulting dynamic is what we would expect given 75 years of the Marshall Plan (European Recovery Plan) as part of the EU’s only point of reference. In order for the EU to maintain its socialistic form of government, it needs to continue the economic benefits from one-way tariffs that exploits the American consumer market. President Trump’s plan to force reciprocity is against its entire economic foundation. The EU simply cannot fathom life without the status quo.

ATLANTA — President Donald Trump and other Republicans have long criticized states that take weeks to count their ballots after Election Day. This year has seen a flurry of activity to address it. Part of Trump’s executive order on elections, signed in March but held up by lawsuits, takes aim at one of the main reasons for late vote counts: Many states allow mailed ballots to be counted even if they arrive after Election Day. The U.S. Supreme Court last month said it would consider whether a challenge in Illinois can proceed in a case that is among several Republican-backed

Donald Trump has never been one to shy away from a fight, but this time, he’s done more than just rattle the Democrats—he’s practically handed Republicans the keys to a midterm landslide in 2026. The playbook was simple, the execution flawless, and the results devastating for the opposition. Here’s what happened.
When Zohran Mamdani, the antisemitic socialist, won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City, many Democrats were less than thrilled. Last month, the Associated Press reported that his victory “exposed anew the fiery divisions plaguing the Democratic Party as it struggles to repair its brand nearly half a year into Donald Trump’s presidency.”

A Jewish advocacy group slammed Democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for posting a “sick” video mocking Hannukah and “cosplaying Jews.”
The mayoral front-runner shared a video on his X account last year from the Geeta Brothers Duet Group, showing two men wearing wigs dancing behind a menorah, playing with dreidels and celebrating with Punjabi-style music.
“Zohran Mamdani posts Indian men cosplaying Jews, spinning dreidels and lighting the menorah,” pro-Jewish group Stop Antisemitism wrote in a post to X Saturday, which included the controversial song.
“Our holidays and traditions are sacred and not for your comedic pleasure _ZohranKMamdani — this is sick.”

The Black Lives Matter hashtag and slogan was developed in 2013 in reaction to the (lawful self-defense) shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. The following year, 2014, the organization was formalized by self-avowed “trained Marxists” after the (lawful) police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
Those two shootings falsely were portrayed as racially motivated, while the facts (which we covered in exhaustive detail at the time) proved otherwise. Nonetheless the narrative was set and hating America and being American was necessary to be accepted into Democrat spaces. Even Bernie was not spared the wrath of BLM activists.

It would seem like a patriotic, inoffensive July 4 post celebrating America on her 249th birthday and lauding the commonality we all share.
Recently retired Philadelphia Eagles great Jason Kelce took to social media Friday to declare his “love for the 4th!” Nothing wrong with that, right?
Man I love the 4th! One of the great days we all can set aside our differences in this country, and enjoy the one thing we all share in common. That we are American!
Cheers to you oh beautiful America. (X) But nooooo, leftists didn’t like that. How dare you praise the country that is oh so evil, that wants to imprison everyone,

Zohran Mamdani has admitted listing his race as “black” on a college admission form. He is not black—he is ethnically South Asian because, by his own admission, his ancestors all came from India. It is impossible to know what went through his head when Mamdani lied on his Columbia University admission form, but the most obvious reason for doing so would have been to give himself an advantage over other applicants. If that was the case, it was not just lying; it was cheating.
Lying on a college admission form is not a criminal offense, but most would say it is unethical.

Love or hate him, there is no denying that President Trump is on a roll, at home and abroad.
The president secured passage of his signature “Big Beautiful” tax reform legislation that includes his “no taxes” on tips and overtime.
Most market watchers expect the economy to surge. His bunker-buster strike effectively de-nuked Iran’s threats against the US, Israel, and throughout the Mideast. In the process, US deterrence — “peace through strength” — was effectively restored after the disastrous Obama and Biden appeasement policies and the Afghanistan embarrassment. Russia and China were sidelined in the region.

Eight members of the OPEC+ alliance of oil exporting countries say they will boost production by 548,000 barrels per day in August in a move that could further reduce gas prices this year.
The group that includes Saudi Arabia and Russia made the decision at a virtual meeting Saturday. They cited a “steady global economic outlook” and low oil inventories.
Oil prices spiked sharply last month during the bloody, 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran but then tumbled back down as the U.S. helped broker a peace deal after dropping bombs on three of Iran’s key nuclear sites.

Rescuers scoured a devastated central Texas landscape of mangled trees, overturned cars and muck-filled debris Saturday in an increasingly bleak mission to locate survivors, including 27 girls who have not been seen since their camp was slammed with a wall of water in a historic flash flood.
The flooding in Kerr County killed at least 43 people, including 15 children, and at least eight people died in nearby counties.
Authorities still have not said how many people were missing beyond the children from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along a river in Kerr County where most of the dead were recovered.
