Donald Trump was not given a heads-up about Ukraine’s unprecedented drone strikes that took out a huge fleet of Russian planes on Sunday, according to reports. Ukraine’s “large-scale” drone attack launched deep into Russian territory wiped out 40 military bombers and targeted five bases, Ukrainian security sources told CBS News. The attack took over a year and a half to plan and was personally supervised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the sources added. Ukrainian officials did not give the Trump administration advance notice of the attack, both Ukrainian and U.S. officials told Axios.

What worked in the FSU would work here and at and around America's strategic bases anywhere in the world. There is no current effective defense against this line of attack. Go-teams, M4s and guard dogs are not effective with this.

The 'rub' of Z telling President Trump beforehand is that he would also be telling a BUNCH of American bureaucrats and flunkies. If any one of them had a General Mark Milley -"I told my ChiCom counterpart that I would warn him if Trump ordered an attack"-attitude, or if the Russians got wind via a penetration of American 'secure' communications and data systems, the Russians would have been informed, the operation squashed, Putin would accuse Trump -rightly- of double-dealing, and the people who drove the trucks thousands of miles into Russia would have been arrested and shot as spies. Z was right in this case to keep this 'close to the vest'.

It took some excellent photography by satellites or drones to locate those planes. Does Ukraine have that sophisticated capability now? We have seen pictures of drone factories building some very basic short range drones than they use to take out tanks.

America is vulnerable to this kind of attack, but its bombers fleet is not. Generally speaking, they are in hardened bunkers and not sitting out. They are also geographically dispersed, including places like Guam and the Indian Ocean. Hard to drive a truck there.

#16, the Russian Belaya airbase is easy to find as it is 'pinned' on Google Maps, and the standard Google Maps imagery- the free version, not the subscription version- clearly shows 16 airplanes parked wingtip-to-wingtip, with 11 more parked on individual pads, 3 more scattered about, and gives a precise lat-long for each one. I understand that this data is a year or two old, but -some of you L-Dotters can inform me- I understand that a 'paid' Google Maps subscription has images that are much more recent. So there's locating the airplanes. Perhaps the Ukrainians used Starlink to communicate with the drones. If this was the method they used, they could have parked the trucks with the drones near the airbase, all the personnel could get back to Ukraine, then the drones could have been activated. Commercially available imagery and communication, nothing supplied by the US/EU/NATO military. I understand that right now half -or more- of our fleet of 20 very expensive B2 bombers are in Diego Garcia. The Google Maps imagery shows four shelters -the shape appears that they are designed to house B2 flying wing type aircraft- that appear to be heavy-duty fabric, not 'hardened bunkers'. Again this imagery is a year or two old. A hostile player could put similar drones on a small ship and bring it within a couple miles of the airbase. The regular B2 base at Whiteman AFB has 14 shelters of similar shape that appear designed to house the B2 flying wing aircraft. These shelters appear to have flat roofs with air conditioning units on the roofs. How 'hard' they are is unknown. At Barksdale AFB, 25 B52'a are clearly visible parked on the concrete. There are a few big hangars, but not nearly enough for all the planes. At Minot AFB, 15 B52's are clearly visible parked wingtip-to-wingtip on the concrete. I found all this in just a minute or two on Google Maps. So much for the airplanes housed in hardened bunkers. Not wanting to be contrary, but the airplanes are simply not in hardened bunkers.

However, the bomber visibility is required as part of several nuclear agreements between the USA and Russia (SALT and START). Our U.S. long range nuclear capable bombers, covered under the same agreements, are also visible.
