Germany’s Merz offers to help Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz pledged Wednesday to help Ukraine develop its own long-range missile systems that would be free of any Western-imposed limitations on their use and targets as the Kyiv government fights to repel Russia’s invasion. Some of the advanced weapon systems that allies have supplied to Ukraine during the 3-year war were subject to range and target restrictions — a fraught political issue stemming from fears that if the weapons struck deep inside Russia, the Kremlin might retaliate against the country that provided them and draw NATO into Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II.

I am surprised that Ukraine has not developed their own long range missiles or gotten any by now. Where is the innovation and motivation of the Ukranian government/people? They seem like little children wanting everything given to them and their hands held than a nation who wants to win their war.

I've managed technical projects with Ukrainian rocket scientists, literally, and they are some smart folks. Look up Yuzhnoye, in Dnipropetrovsk. They know how to make rockets, designed most of the Soviet Union's ICBMs, and they were built across the river in the Yuzhmash plant. The Russians have pretty much leveled Yuzhmach, and killed a fair number of the Yuzhnoye designers in the last few years with their missile attacks on civilians. I heard from one friend who had worked at Yuzhnoye that her boss and some co-workers had been killed by a Russian missile. They'll probably be happy to return the favor.

ey Newly declassified documents from a 2019 FBI analysis released on May 28, 2025 show that Nellie Ohr allegedly “knowingly“ provided false testimony under oath to Congress about her actions related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Ohr was a Fusion GPS contractor who provided research and intel in the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, played a central role in pushing for declassification of the analysis. An analysis of the documents concluded that Ohr’s statements obstructed congressional investigations and violated federal statutes 18 USC §1001 (false statements) and 18 USC §1505 (obstruction of proceedings before departments, agencies, and congressional committees).

CBS News thinks the crown jewel of its news division is "60 Minutes," the alleged gold standard of investigative journalism on television. But when it comes to politics, their coverage isn't just slanted. It's more like a wrecked bus laying on its side, wheels spinning in the air. Their stilted editing of a Kamala Harris interview weeks before the election caused Donald Trump to sue last year over the potential harm to his candidacy. By that standard, Trump could sue lots of newscasters and documentarians who slice and dice presidential contenders to try and persuade voters.

The University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights."

ChatGPT is coming for your job. That’s the fear about the rapid advances in artificial intelligence. In a headline the other day, Axios warned of a “white-collar bloodbath.” The CEO of the artificial intelligence firm Anthropic told the publication that AI could destroy half of all entry-level white-collar jobs in the next one to five years and drive the unemployment rate up to 10% or 20% — or roughly Great Depression levels. This sounds dire, but we’ve been here before. In the 1930s, John Maynard Keynes thought that labor-saving devices were “outrunning the pace at which we can find new uses for labor.”Analysts thought the same thing in the 1960s,

They’re just using too many darn multisyllabic, academic-sounding words and turning off numbskull voters, is the basic message. Seriously? The Democrats’ problem isn’t linguistic, it’s ideological. But no one in the party wants to admit that. A Washington Post story this week – “Democratic troubles revive debate over left-wing buzzwords” – begins by saying: Maybe it’s using the word ‘oligarchs’ instead of rich people. Or referring to ‘people experiencing food insecurity’ rather than Americans going hungry. Or ‘equity’ in place of ‘equality,’ or ‘justice-involved populations’ instead of prisoners.

Trump promised his voters across-the-board tax cuts while campaigning, but once confronted with the difficult math of paying for his expensive agenda, the president — and some members of the GOP caucus — began to wobble. So long as Senate Republicans stick with their colleagues in the lower chamber and avoid adding tax hikes to the “big, beautiful” bill, they’ll avoid paying a steep political price at the ballot box.
